Origin of Saddle Dolomite in Aqra - Bekhma Formation (Upper Campanain - Mastrichtian), Bekhma Gorge Area, North Iraq
In: Iraqi journal of science, S. 577-583
ISSN: 0067-2904
Thirty-four dolomite and dolomitic limestone samples were collected from Aqra – Bekhma (It is difficult to separate the two formations as they are intervening) Formation in Bekhma Gorge area near Shaqlawa in northern Iraq. Alizarin red - s was used to distinguish calcite from dolomite. The saddle dolomite was recognized as a virtually rough crystalline material with milky-white or rosy color when seen in outcrop. In addition, we observed a pearl luster and a characteristically marred crystal building that is, in principle, described as damaged crystal faces with cleavage planes, while microscopically it appeared as a widespread extinction. The crystal faces, although well advanced, are frequently pavement-like facets.

Effects of Adding Intrathecal Dexmedetomidine to Hyperbaric Bupivacaine for Saddle Spinal Block in Adults Undergoing Peri-anal Surgeries
In: Journal of the Nepal Health Research Council, Band 16, Heft 1, S. 43-48
ISSN: 1999-6217
Background: Saddle spinal block is the first choice anesthetic technique for adults undergoing peri-anal surgeries. It prevents unnecessary high levels of analgesia and sympathetic block. However, it may not provide prolonged analgesia. This study aims to investigate analgesic effects of dexmedetomidine when added to hyperbaric bupivacaine in saddle spinal block. Methods: Fifty otherwise healthy adults scheduled for uncomplicated peri-anal surgery were randomly allocated into two equal groups in this double-blinded study. Group A received hyperbaric bupivacaine five milligrams; group B received hyperbaric bupivacaine five milligrams plus dexmedetomidine five micrograms intrathecally. Patients remained seated for ten minutes. Time to first analgesic request by patients was the primary end point. Onset and extent of sensory block, and, magnitude and duration of motor block were assessed. Post-operative analgesic consumption and side effects were studied for 24 hours. Student's t-test for quantitative variables and Chi-square test for categorical variables were used for statistical analysis. Results: Patients in group B had a significantly prolonged duration of analgesia (group B, 501 ± 306 minutes; group A, 284 ± 58 minutes) and significantly reduced analgesic requirement than patients in group A. Sensory block in first sacral dermatome appeared significantly earlier in group B. Peak sensory block, magnitude of motor block, and side effects were not significantly different between groups A and B.Conclusions: Dexmedetomidine as an intrathecal adjuvant to hyperbaric bupivacaine in saddle spinal block prolongs duration of analgesia and decreases analgesic requirement with no added side effects.

On optimal taxes and subsidies: A discrete saddle-point theorem with application to job matching under constraints
In: Journal of mechanism and institution design: JMID, Band 5, Heft 1, S. 37-77

When a government intervenes in markets by setting a target amount of goods/services traded, its tax/subsidy policy is optimal if it entices the market participants to obey the policy target while achieving the highest possible social welfare. For the model of job market interventions by Kojima et al. (2019), we establish the existence of optimal taxes/subsidies as well as their characterization. Our methodological contribution is to introduce a discrete version of Karush-Kuhn-Tucker's saddle-point theorem based on the techniques in discrete convex analysis. We have two main results: we (i) characterize the optimal taxes/subsidies and the corresponding equilibrium salaries as the minimizers of a Lagrange function, and (ii) prove that the function satisfies a notion of discrete convexity (called L#-convexity). These results together with others imply that an optimal tax/subsidy level exists and can be calculated via a computationally efficient algorithm.
Search for a saddle point of a convex-concave stochastic game by the adaptive method of mirror descent
In: Trudy Kolʹskogo naučnogo centra RAN. Gumanitarnye issledovanija = Humanitarian studies, Band 11, Heft 8-2020, S. 182-184
A stochastic game problem of 2 persons with a zero sum is considered, leading to the search for a saddle point of the game function based on the gradient approach. We study mirror descent algorithms, both adaptive and non-adaptive. The main results are proved. An illustrative example is discussed.
