Introdução: O projeto parte de três constatações essenciais. A primeira é a de que, atualmente está em curso um intenso movimento de transferência das etapas iniciais da cadeia produtiva da celulose e do papel em âmbito internacional, partindo dos países tradicionalmente produtores do Hemisfério Norte para o Sul global, desencadeado pela busca da redução dos custos de produção e por contornar restrições impostas pelas legislações trabalhista e ambiental nos países centrais. Em segundo lugar, verifica-se que, internamente ao Brasil, também tem ocorrido um movimento de relocalização produtiva, na medida em que as novas plantas fabris do segmento da celulose e papel estão se instalando e se transferindo, preferencialmente, para novos espaços, mais distantes do centro dinâmico da economia nacional (Sudeste), e sem nenhuma tradição nesse tipo de atividade. São os casos dos estados do Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins, Bahia, Maranhão e Piauí, que atraem os investidores devido principalmente às vantagens comparativas quanto ao preço da terra, uma vez que cada megaprojeto requer centenas de milhares de hectares de terra para a formação de bases contíguas de monocultivo de árvores – principalmente as espécies do gênero Eucalyptus. Outro fator locacional importante é a presença de mananciais abundantes de água, necessários tanto para o cultivo do eucalipto quanto para o processamento industrial. Constatamos em pesquisa anterior que as empresas utilizam-se em grande medida do receituário pragmático do regime de acumulação flexível, impondo vínculos e condições de trabalho extremamente precários e degradantes aos trabalhadores, fato que tem resultado em constantes levantes e paralisações nas áreas pesquisadas. Metodologia/Desenvolvimento: A presente pesquisa objetiva compreender a dinâmica geográfica do trabalho na produção de celulose e papel no Brasil, e sua articulação com o movimento global do setor na contemporaneidade, por meio da análise da apropriação e exploração da natureza e da força de trabalho. Para tanto, buscaremos combinar metodologias de pesquisa quantitativa (dados secundários) com metodologias qualitativas (observação participante e realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas), atribuindo grande importância ao trabalho de campo nas áreas estudadas, quais sejam, os mais novos enclaves do monocultivo do eucalipto e da produção de celulose e papel no território brasileiro (Leste de Mato Grosso do Sul, Sul de Tocantins, Sul da Bahia, Oeste do Maranhão e Oeste do Piauí). Como referencial teórico serão adotados autores que se fundamentam no materialismo histórico e dialético, que nos permita compreender os fenômenos estudados como parte da incontrolabilidade e irreformabilidade sistêmicas do sociometabolismo do capital na era da mundialização. Considerações finais: ainda que em estágio inicial, esperamos que a pesquisa ofereça elementos para um debate crítico acerca, especialmente no que diz respeito à discussão sobre a falácia da economia verde e da sustentabilidade que envolvem as atividades econômicas em torno do monocultivo de eucalipto e da produção de celulose e papel, como forma de legitimar os desastres ambientais e os descumprimentos sociais e laborais.

La tesi es centra en l'actual interació de la lluita armada republicana a Irlanda del Nord, activa des de l'època del procés de pau a finals dels anys noranta. Tot i caracteritzar-se per una intensitat menor que la del conflicte armat que es va produir entre 1969 i 1998, l'actual campanya de violència política continua sent letal, amb episodis periòdics de violència dirigits contra ambdues entitats estatals i contra aquells entesos com a amenaces per a les comunitats nacionalistes. La tesi doctoral aquí presentada assumeix la tasca d'estudiar aquesta lluita armada des d'una triple perspectiva, observant-ne l'emergència, el manteniment i la legitimació. Aquesta tasca es caracteritza per la seva exploració de la naturalesa entrellaçada de les diferents formes de violència política que constitueixen la lluita armada, fent-se especialment evident en el caràcter mútuament constitutiu de les condicions que faciliten l'existència de violència política. La present és la primera investigació en problematitzar aquesta relació i, per tant, ofereix una comprensió innovadóra dels fenomens estudiats. ; The thesis is focused on the contemporary iteration of the Northern Irish republican armed struggle, which has been active since the time of the peace process in the late 1990s. Despite being characterised by a lower intensity than the armed conflict that took place between 1969 and 1998, the ongoing campaign of political violence is still lethal, with periodic instances of violence directed against both entities if the state and those understood to be threatening the nationalist communities. The presented doctoral thesis takes up the task of studying this armed struggle in a tripartite focus, by looking at the emergence, maintenance, and legitimation thereof. The combination of democratic promotion and democratic consolidation has long become a catch phrase for states to be recognized as high-achievers and their societies to be labelled as free. The West, the driving force of both processes, has underestimated the risk that the fruits of democracy promotion would be used for more nefarious goals than to aid its direct beneficiaries. However the democratization process opens «windows of opportunity» for external actors to meddle via political parties and vibrant civil society, and find it relatively easy to breed agents that influence public opinion through country's media freedom.This paper argues that Georgia should keep a close eye on Russia's actions in the West to learn the Kremlin's strategies to undermine democracy; known Russian tactics include exploiting popular dissatisfaction, deepening internal divisions and promoting civil society actors that are not necessarily pro-Russian but are illiberal and radical. ; Демократичне просування і консолідація вже давно перетворилися на мантру для країн, які прагнуть бути визнаними вiдмiнниками демократизацiї, а їхні суспільства – вiльними. Водночас, Захід, який є рушійною силою обох процесів, недооцінив ризики того, що його стратегiї заохочення демократичних реформ використовуються так званими «чорними рицарями» демократизацiї для досягнення протилежних цілей. Процес демократизації відкриває «вікна можливостей» для втручання зовнішніх учасників у внтурiшнi справи iнших країн через політичні партії, громадянське суспільство, а також агентів, які впливають на громадську думку через засоби масової інформації.Ця стаття стверджує, що Грузія, як країна у процесi демократизацiї, має уважно стежити за дiями Росії на Заході, з метою вивчення стратегії Кремля, спрямовані на підрив демократії. Відома російська тактика полягає у використанні народного невдоволення дiями уряду, поглибленні внутрішніх розбіжностей та заохоченні тих суб'єктів суспільства, які не обов'язково є проросійськими, але анти-лiберальними або радикальними.

Many ceasefires and peace agreements in civil conflict are initially unsuccessful. Some give way to renewed, and often escalating, violence. In other cases, peace processes have become interminably protracted: lengthy and circular negotiations in which concessions are rare. Given the huge material and human costs of a failed peace process, the international community has a strong interest in helping these processes succeed and addressing threats to their implementation. Challenges to Peacebuilding approaches this problem by focussing on 'spoilers': groups and tactics that actively seek to obstruct or undermine conflict settlement through a variety of means, including terrorism and violence. It considers why spoilers and spoiling behaviour emerge and how they can be addressed, drawing upon experience from Northern Ireland, the Basque region, Bosnia, Colombia, Israel-Palestine, Cyprus, the Caucasus and Kashmir. This volume takes a 'critical' approach to the concept of spoiling and considers a broad range of actors as potential spoilers: not only rebel groups and insurgents, but also diasporas, governments, and other entities. It also demonstrates that ill-conceived or imposed peace processes can themselves sow the seeds of spoiling.
