A fundamental dyad in public social services is woman to woman. In Israeli public social services, it is often mother to mother. This multi-faceted encounter is complex and in this theoretical article I wish to deconstruct and situate the social worker–mother encounter in a broader context, a social–cultural–national one. Taking a feminist perspective, I will explore how the personal and private social worker–mother encounter is a political and public one. Analysing western ideologies of the 'Good Mother' together with those of the Israeli-Jewish mother, this article aims to develop a theoretical understanding of macro mechanisms that shape the social worker–mother encounter. Being conscious about what influences that encounter might benefit social work clients, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers.

This study investigated the curvilinear relationships between Job Scope and Affective Outcomes and the moderating effect of work context satisfactions on those relationships. The analysis used a multivariate design to examine main and interaction effects. The results showed several different relationships between job design and the work context. Those relationships included distraction, enhancement, and compensatory effects of the work context and the job itself. The theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed.

The role of the social worker is immeasurable in modern society, and consists
of a series of activities, such as: assessing or collecting data about the
client, providing appropriate treatment, researching the causes of the
client?s problems, teaching the client and likewise. Although social work as
a profession is extremely important, one gets the impression that they are
more than ever in the center of public interest, but not in a way that
allows the affirmation of their profession. On the contrary, it is more
pejoratively, when a tragedy occurs, and where their role is inevitable .
However, earlier research that dealt with this topic came to a conclusion
that social workers and Centers for Social Work are negatively exposed,
although the majority of the social community is not sufficiently familiar
with their role, which further distorts the image of their work. In this
regard, it is necessary to perform an analysis of the activities of the
Centers for Social Work, in order to positively influence the construction
and strengthening of the image and reputation in the public, greater
transparency, but also better communication with users. In this context,
this paper will try to examine the current media image of the profession of
social workers in the Republic of Serbia, whether there are prejudices about
this profession, and to what extent it is important that the reporting of
the media and journalists be complete, objective, accurate and timely.

South Africa had the lowest exclusive breastfeeding rates in the world in 2012 at 8%. This increased to 32% in 2016 but the progress is still slow. Return to work is one of the main reasons working women stop breastfeeding. A descriptive qualitative research design was used to guide this study, which explored support for workplace breastfeeding. This study focused on a vulnerable group of low-income women working in clothing factories in Cape Town, a female dominated industry in South Africa. The research aimed to develop an improved understanding of breastfeeding support at work for these women. Given South Africa's legacy of colonialism and apartheid, these women are mainly black and poor. High poverty rates in this context often mean that they return to work soon after childbirth because of economic necessity, placing further constraints on breastfeeding. The study's findings confirm that despite legislated maternity protection and breastfeeding breaks, the enforcement of these laws is very low. In investigating the ways low-skilled, low paid women in clothing factories navigate this situation, four key themes emerged: 1) their workplaces are designed for men and machines; 2) they receive limited workplace breastfeeding support; 3) there is a lack of communication and transparency about breastfeeding at work and 4) their social and economic context plays a role in their ability to breastfeed at work. With these findings, low-cost recommendations for improving workplace support for breastfeeding are presented.

The dominance of governments and employers in determining social work education is highlighted, alongside the ascendancy of skills-based and vocational training. Moreover, it is proposed that research, associated learning, and practice are now more often moulded around essentialist science-based, behavioural or functionalist paradigms, which fit conveniently with free market, politically conservative and authoritarian agendas. The neoliberal university is increasingly able to rationally prepare social workers to fulfil narrow ideological objectives, which includes priority given to attempts to empower, pathologise, and scientifically manage structurally disadvantaged populations from minority groups. Reductive paradigms, nevertheless, can struggle to cope with social fragmentation and diversity, with social work students often ill prepared for many of the complex challenges which they later face as qualified practitioners. Analysis for the article draws from critical theory, and it is concluded that market-based discourses and related professional paradigms - and the symbolically constituted and hyperreal fantasies which they help to maintain - can prove difficult to escape. Social work continues to face a precarious future within university settings in which free market narratives, associated norms, targets, and labour insecurity prevail.

The measures taken to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic by governments worldwide have vast consequences on all areas of life. To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on long-term career development, we evaluated the work-family balance of medical doctors at nine German university clinics. The results indicate a severely disturbed work-family balance, which was mostly due to insufficient childcare, based on restrictions in school operations and childcare. Despite the newly created emergency childcare options, aiming to ensure the functioning of the "systematically important" professional groups, medical doctors feel that they are not sufficiently supported by the measures taken by local governments. Women, in particular, see their professional development at risk. Our results underline that proper and flexible childcare is essential for the career advancement of female medical doctors and is particularly important in times of crises such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. At university medicine clinics, increased work time flexibility and optimized schooling and childcare are needed to promote the career development of female as well as male medical doctors in the early stage of their careers.
