"The hospitality sector is facing increasing competition and complexity over recent decades on its development towards a global industry. The strategic response to this is still that hospitality companies try to grow outside their traditional territories and domestic markets, while the expansion patterns and M&A activities of international hotel and restaurant chains reflect this phenomenon. Interestingly, the strategies, concepts and methods of internationalization as well as the managerial and organizational challenges and impacts of globalizing the hospitality business are yet under-researched in the field of hospitality. While the mainstream research on international management offers an abundance of information and knowledge on topics, players, trends, concepts, frameworks or, methodologies, its ability to produce viable insights for the hospitality industry is limited, as the mainstream of research is taking place outside of the service sector. Specific research directions and related cases like the international dimensions of strategy, organization, marketing, sales, staffing, control, culture and others to the hospitality industry, are rarely identifiable so far. The core rationale of this book is therefore to present newest insights from research and industry in the field of international hospitality, drawing together recent scientific knowledge and state-of-the-art expertise to suggest directions for future work. It is designed to raise awareness on the international factors influencing the strategy and performance of hospitality organizations, while analyzing and discussing the present and future challenges for hospitality firms going or being international. This book will provide a comprehensive overview and deeper understanding of trends and issues to researchers, practitioners and students by showing how to master current and future challenges when entering and competing in the global hospitality industry"--

"Business scandals are always with us from the South Sea Bubble to Enron and Parmalat. As accounting forms a central element of any business success or failure, the role of accounting is crucial in understanding business scandals. This book aims to explore the role of accounting, particularly creative accounting and fraud, in business scandals. The book is divided into three parts. In Part A the background and context of creative accounting and fraud is explored. Part B looks at a series of international accounting scandals and Part C draws some themes and implications from the country studies."--Provided by publisher.

This comprehensive case intends to develop your understanding of the complexities involved in the international transfer pricing and taxation of intangible assets. The backdrop for the case is GlaxoSmithKline's $5.2 billion settlement in 2006 with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. You are required to provide possible rationales for the positions advocated by the Company as well as the IRS. You are also required to present calculations under different transfer pricing methods, identify the most appropriate method, compute Foreign Tax Credits for different scenarios, and suggest possible strategies for multinational corporations to reduce the odds of negative settlements with tax authorities.

AbstractThis paper provides guidance to managers in the corporate public affairs (PA) community for internationalising their professional development and competency acquisition. It is increasingly necessary that PA managers have competencies in the range of global socio‐political matters that impact their organisations. Unfortunately, the provision of this knowledge, skill and ability (KSAs) has mostly come through unsystematic, personal and on‐thejob experience. This paper develops a list of international PA competencies, and calls for improved dedication by all PA leaders, to internationalising the developmental, experiential, on the job and post‐secondary educational 'curriculums' for PA managers. Taking as its point of departure the recent openings of Soviet, east European and Chinese archives, the article discusses present and future directions in Cold War historiography. While a `realist' approach, in different forms, still dominates the field, a closer look at some recent publications indicates an emerging criticism of realism, both in terms of historical analyses and in terms of research orientation. This is particularly true of scholarship on the history of Soviet and Chinese foreign affairs, both promising fields being developed by younger scholars. In conclusion, the article points to some of the issues of core relevance to Cold War history and around which the international debate will develop.
