What are the consequences of Syriza coming to power in Greece in 2015? Did it become a new Weimar Germany for the future Europe? In this article we test the hypothesis that winning two consecutive parliamentary elections in 2015 and forming a government contributed to a farther institutionalisation of this party within the rules of Greek democracy. This article is based on data from the Greek Ministry of Interior and the website of the Greek parliament. This text aims at presenting the process of transformation of Syriza - a radical, left-wing, anti-establishment and anti-austerity party into a governmental entity, pro systemic and accepting the principle of the democratic state of law. All this was due to the establishing of the governmental coalition with ANEL, a nationalist party; social-economic reforms; the reform of the electoral system for parliamentary elections; the proposal of a constitutional reform and the ending of the nearly 30-year dispute with Macedonia. The electoral failure during the parliamentary elections on the 7th of July 2019 finishes a 4-year governance of Syriza and enables us to try to evaluate this experiment for the first time. A key finding of our investigation is the need to highlight the respect for the democratic rules by Syriza during its government and its further institutionalisation as one of the main groupings of the contemporary party system in Greece.

Due to high audience numbers and the significant influence upon the opinions and values of viewers, the political leadership in China attributes great importance to the impact of television dramas. Many successful TV serials have served as useful conduits to disseminate official rhetoric and mainstream ideology, and they also offer a rich area of research by providing insight into the changing Chinese political, social and cultural context. This book examines a group of recently released TV drama serials in China which focus upon, and to various degrees represent, topical political, social and cultural phenomena. Some of the selected TV serials reflect the present ideological proclivities of the Chinese government, whilst others mirror social and cultural occurrences or provide coded and thought-provoking messages on China's socio-economic and political reality. Through in-depth textual analysis of the plots, scenes and characters of these selected TV serials, the book provides timely interpretations of contemporary Chinese society, its political inclinations, social fashions and cultural tendencies. The book also demonstrates how popular media narratives of TV drama serials engage with sensitive civic issues and cultural phenomena of modern-day China, which in turn encourages a broader social imagination and potential for change. Advancing our understanding of contemporary China, this book will appeal to students and scholars of contemporary Chinese culture, society and politics, as well as those with research interests in television studies more generally.

Influences on cultural, social, economic and political life of the Bhaca as well as their Interaction with other cultures from within South Africa and other parts of the world have led to the erosion of older traditions and customs resulting in a replacement of values that have promoted immorality, crime and an increase in sexually transmitted diseases among others. Consequently, these forces have resulted in change in the structure of mamtiseni and nkciyo female initiation ceremonies, thereby influencing the musical arts embedded in them. This article examines the educational content of the songs and dances and the role these musical arts play within mamtiseni and nkciyo celebrations expressed by the Bhaca of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The article reveals that despite the influences on mamtiseni and nkciyo female initiation ceremonies it is evident that certain elements have continued to a large extent as they used to be in the pre-colonial times, while others have undergone change to suit the current lifestyle of the people in South Africa. The songs have undergone changes especially in their texts, which have shifted focus from menstruation and marriage to include topical issues of a social nature and wellbeing, and as such the repertoire reduced.

Analyzing a large array of statistical data and results of the personal observations, the authors assess the state of the innovative activity of Ukrainian industry in section according to the economic activities. This paper provides an overview of the basic characteristics regarding
number, as well as normative and functional status, i.e. legal and
institutional status of Serbs in Zagreb. Furthermore, the paper describes
some distinctions among organizational levels of Serbian minority in Zagreb,
concerning the most important aspects of socio-cultural, educational and
religious integration. Serbian minority members? number in Croatia and Zagreb
is analyzed using an official demographic statistics, focusing primarily on
major socio-demographic indicators, on population density and ethnic
composition data for the population of Zagreb municipality for the period of
1981-2011. Legal position of the Serbian minority in Zagreb is described
using analysis of official documents, including legislative framework
provisions, which are related to issues of national minorities? status and
rights. Institutional and organizational status is elucidated by using
descriptive analysis of cultural, educational, media and religious aspects of
minority?s life. The number of Serbs in Croatia decreased drastically in last
twenty years, affecting their number being reduced to approximately one-third
of the prewar number. In the period 1981 to 2011 there was a continuous
increase of number and proportion of Croatian majority population, and
continuous reduction of national minorities in Zagreb. The biggest percentile
decreasing in the municipality of Zagreb (during period 1991-2001) have
undergone members of the Serbian (57.7%), Slovenian (48.9%), and Montenegrin
(43.7%) minority. In the case of Serbs, this is primarily and predominantly a
consequence of forced emigration (displacement) induced by the war in the
1990s. Moreover, negative demographic trends together with a possibility of
?false? national declaration in census, as well as the relentless process of
assimilation are counted as specific factors in reducing the number of
national minorities? members. Status of Serbs as the former "constituent
people/ethnicity" in Socialist Republic of Croatia was modified in the status
of "national minority" in (Democratic) Republic of Croatia, due to
constitutional changes in 1990. Today, in accordance with the provisions of
the Constitutional Law on National Minorities in 2002 national minorities in
Croatia enjoy the rights in the area of cultural (linguistic, educational and
religious) autonomy. Implementation of these rights still faces many problems
in everyday praxis, which is reflected in organizational aspects and levels
of Serbs in Zagreb. Cultural, artistic, and educational associations and
initiatives among Serbian minority organize activities that contribute to
promotion, preservation and expressing specific national minority?s identity.
Although satisfactory level of normative (legal) integration does not
guarantee functional integration of minorities into wider socio-economic,
cultural and political matrix, that normative integration, along with
political will and favorable social climate, sets an essential precondition
for the willingness to implement laws and regulations in order to improve
Serbian minority status.

AbstractConsiderable research has explored the relationship between majority and minority language speaking communities in bilingual contexts. Comparatively little research, however, has explored relations within as opposed to between a language group in these contexts. Antecedent to a new order of social and cultural life in Wales, this article explores how two groups of Welsh speakers, one relatively privileged and one relatively marginalized, positioned themselves as they talked about 'being Welsh speaking'. For all respondents the ability to speak Welsh was understood to confer sameness beyond linguistic competence on Welsh speakers. Claims to a strong Welsh‐speaking identity, however, were legitimized by drawing on different resources. Whilst the relatively privileged group identified themselves as 'traditionally Welsh' based on their linguistic and social practices, members of the more marginalized group were unable to define their own linguistic and social practices as 'traditional' for a Welsh speaker. In response they forged a distinctive social space for themselves by developing a class‐based communal Welsh identity. With reference to Bourdieu's work on the process of boundary construction and maintenance, this article makes a contribution to understanding ethnolinguistic diversity and how discourses about being Welsh speaking might be reproduced and negotiated in contemporary post‐diglossic Wales. It suggests that ethnolinguistic identity may become implicated in the process of classificatory struggle, with social groups emerging through a social space of hierarchical difference.

This has not gone unnoticed among commercial actors, with the savviest of these exploiting the social dynamics of sharing that underlie the very logic of Instagram. This book addresses the issue of how mobile media and visual communication permeate peoples daily routines, how marketing influences practice, whether privacy and surveillance concerns are a reality, and how the platform shapes social relationships and identity formation. In its conclusion, the book advances the innovative concept of new mobile visualities to describe the social communication of photography and its huge expansion.
