The Succession Act 1965 introduced a curb on a person's freedom of testation and gave protection to spouses and children on the death of a husband/wife, mother or father. As a result, certain relationships took precedence over others in the distribution of an estate, e.g. a surviving spouse's legal right share to a deceased spouse's estate is absolute. Since that legislation was enacted Irish society has changed greatly with a new variety and complexity of family structures. The provisions introduced by the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010 are an attempt to keep pace with the changes which have taken place in modern society. As a result of the succession law provisions in the Act of 2010 certain relationships take priority over other competing interests in an estate. Thus, a new hierarchy of claimants to an estate is created. For example, a biological child can make an application which can have the effect of eroding the legal right share of a surviving civil partner but not that of a surviving spouse, their step-parent. I plan to review the succession law provisions contained in the Act of 1965 and the amendments made to the 1965 Act by the Act of 2010 and analyse and examine which competing interests in an estate will take precedence, the varying degrees of protection afforded to individuals in the newly recognised family structures, the rationale behind these variations and the possible ramifications in the future.

At first sight, the prevention of abuse of children, anti-social behaviour of children or migrants' identity fraud or illegal entry are quite different objectives which require different professional skills and legislative background. Even the digital technologies introduced to boost the prevention of the above problems are quite different. However, this article, aims to show that the implications of the design and use of these systems cast quite similar 'risk shadows' on both children and migrants that can be conceived as an 'identity trap' risk. The aim of this article is therefore to look for similarities and acquire a better insight into the use and implications of digital tools within policy areas that focus on vulnerable groups in" our society such as children and migrants. A second aim is to explore how the legal framework, in particular the new European Union data protection regime soon to be formally adopted, can assist actors involved to remedy the negative implications on children and migrants' positions, which stem from the use of preventative identity management systems. In addition, the article also pursues possibilities of guiding professionals in becoming reflexive about the detrimental implications of digital technologies and testing the normative potential of the legal framework regarding the vulnerable position of children and migrants. For finding ways in which professionals can become more reflexive about the potential negative implications of preventative identity management technologies is critical in order to create a context that is much more than merely law on the books.

Liberia has become the quintessential example of an African failed state. Though Liberia's civil war is officially over, war criminals are free and some are even helping run the transitional government under the authority of Liberia's Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). This peace agreement calls for the consideration of a general amnesty for those involved in the Liberian civil war alongside the parceling of governmental functions among members of various rebel groups. The drafters of the agreement claim that this was the only viable solution for sustainable peace in Liberia. Meanwhile, Charles Taylor relaxes in Nigeria's resort city of Calabar.

; The aim of this text is to analyse the category of the migrant in relation with the globalmanagement of human flows. The tendency, as it will be argued in this text, is to regulate global migration through "soft Law mecanism", with out regarding the formal and universal Law . New global normatives regulate migrations following neoliberal legal production criteria such as flexibility, informality or decentralisation. Supranational entities (helped by the States or without them) are establishing normative standard through which migratory flows depend on the requirements of a globalmarket. The new labour contractualmodels become the only valid titles on elementary rights recognition. The main consequence is the unlawful consequences for those who decide to move unobserving the newmigratory regimes. ; 91-116 ; iker.barbero@ehu.es
