Increased pressure on risk industries to reduce their negative impact on society has resulted in an increasing volume of "risk" and "responsibility" communications from interest groups known as Social Aspects Public Relations Organizations (SAPROs). SAPROs have been criticized for being the "front groups" of risk industries (e.g., the tobacco, gambling, sugar, and alcohol industries). Operating within the neoliberal policy framework, SAPROs seek to forestall regulation and prioritize industry profits over public health. Building on risk industry research from the public health sphere, this article examines the SAPRO phenomenon and situates it in the political public relations (PR) literature. Specifically, it considers how SAPROs perform an indirect lobbying function on behalf of their funding industries. Using DrinkWise as an example of an alcohol SAPRO, this article shows that SAPROs represent a novel development in front group strategy and examines how this development intersects with neoliberalism. This article also argues that SAPROs are deployed by risk industries to hegemonically promote the idea of personal responsibility and that their indirect lobbying function may be necessary to the continuance of neoliberal policies.
The aim of the essay is to discuss the concept and the value of political sovereignty and those to describe its enemies. According to the theorists of the modern state, two concurring aspects identify political sovereignty: a process of institutionalization of political power; a popular decision to recognize political sovereign. A similar concept of political sovereignty is challenged by otherforms of power, which the Author defines the "economical sovereignty" and the "sovereignty of the bios." After analyzing the characteristics of these different forms of individual power, the Author reveals the common fate of economical sovereignty and the sovereignty ofthe bios. A community of individuals founded on the economical sovereignty and sovereignty of the bios erases political sovereignty and supports the dominion of téchne(techno-science)over politics (Technocracy).
Not until the eighteenth century was the image of the tender, full-time mother invented. This image retains its power today. Inventing Maternity demonstrates that, despite its association with an increasingly standardized set of values, motherhood remained contested terrain. Drawing on feminist, cultural, and postcolonial theory, Inventing Maternity surveys a wide range of sources--medical texts, political tracts, religious doctrine, poems, novels, slave narratives, conduct books, and cookbooks. The first half of the volume, covering the mid-seventeenth to the late eighteenth centuries, consid

This anthology gives a historically aware overview of the political and economic issues facing African women since Independence. It incorporates gender and transnational theory in its theoretical discussion of African women from the perspective of political economy. The three main themes are African feminism, women and work, and women and politics. The issue of women's control over labor is central, as is a comparative perspective of women's political movements. Written by Africans and Africanists, this significant and much-needed work is an examination of these themes and a critical evaluation of materialist thought on the political and economic aspects of African women's studies.

Politics of Globalization presents an up-to-date perspective on the kaleidoscopic politics of globalization. The authors analyse the existing definitions of capitalism and argue that globalization and the consequent growing multi-polarity in world politics is not a crisis but a proliferation of capitalisms. This network of capitalisms becomes the framework of the politics of the new globalization. This compilation by social scientists across the globe is an empirical and theoretical exploration of the socio-political responses to globalization. The authors examine the impacts of the decline of
