From 22 to 25 May 2014 in the countries of the European Union elections are held for European Parliament. These elections are - against about earlier European elections - under special sign, the last few years but were coined by a general sense of crisis: superficially connected by the financial, debt and economic crisis in Europe, with a general of values, trust and legitimacy crisis. Due to the economic turmoil of recent years, has also changed the institutional structure of the EU, the crisis management was yet mainly coined by technocrats and the EU and its Member States executives - at the expense of the role of the European Parliament and the national parliaments. The present article aims at delving into the impact of the Spanish gender quota, imposed by the Equality Act, named <>, five years after its approval. Hence, the article tries to verify the law's consequences in the National Parliament (in the Deputy Congress and the Senate) and in the Territorial Parliaments, from a political perspective. Therefore, the article examines the behaviour of the main political parties, as well as the elements of the Spanish electoral system and the design of the gender quota. The target is to assess if there is or not an improvement of the Spanish women empowerment in the legislative power due to the Act of Equality. Adapted from the source document.

Der Verein Graubünden 2022 beabsichtigte, sich als offizielle Kandidatur der Schweiz für die Olympischen Winterspiele 2022 zu bewerben. Im Hinblick auf die politische Diskussion und das Kandidaturdossier zur Bewerbung wurde das Forschungsnetzwerk Rütter Soceco, Eidgenössische Hochschule für Sport Magglingen EHSM und Institut für Tourismuswirtschaft ITW Hochschule Luzern beauftragt, die potenziellen wirtschaftlichen Wirkungen der Olympischen Winterspiele auf die Austragungsregion und die gesamte Schweiz zu analysieren. Die Studie gliedert sich in zwei Hauptteile und eine Zusammenfassung der Erkenntnisse. Der erste Teil des Berichts, der am 30. Oktober 2012 publiziert wurde, fokussiert auf den wirtschaftlichen Primärimpuls (Budgets und touristische Ausgaben) und die damit verbundenen volkswirtschaftlichen Wirkungen von Graubünden 2022. Er weist die direkten und indirekten Wertschöpfungs- und Beschäftigungswirkungen sowie die Steuerwirkungen im Kanton Graubünden und in der übrigen Schweiz aus, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Wirkungen auf den Tourismus. Für den Gesamtbericht wurden die Wirkungen für die drei Regionen Davos/Kloster, Oberengadin und ""übrige Region"" regionalisiert. Der zweite Teil der Studie zeigt die potenziellen langfristigen Wirkungen (Legacy) von Graubünden 2022 qualitativ auf. Dabei werden acht Themen unterschieden und die wichtigsten mit der Durchführung verbundenen Risiken dargestellt. Wie die Potenziale ausgeschöpft werden, wird wesentlich davon abhängen, dass die Legacyaspekte frühzeitig in die Planung der OWS Graubünden 22 einbezogen werden.

After its 2012 judgment only partially sanctioning Russia for its responsibility in the murder of almost 22 000 prisoners of war in 1940, the European Court of Human Rights returned the following year to the Katyn case to adopt an even more disappointing judgment. The Grand Chamber merely deplored the attitude of the Russian authorities, who for several decades denied the massacres and refused to cooperate with the Court to establish the facts. However, it refused to confirm the findings of a war crime and the inhuman treatment incurred by the applicants left in uncertainty about the fate of their close relatives. Equally regrettably, the ECHR continued to refuse to make a ruling on the obligation to investigate this type of serious violation of human rights and to remedy the harm it caused.

AbstractThis paper presents a model of strategic interaction between households and recidivists who commit property crimes. It is estimated that the households pay an income tax rate between 0.12 and 0.21 percent for protection from a loss of 1.8 to 2.25 percent of their annual incomes. Thirteen to 22 percent of total funding for public enforcement is devoted to detecting property crime. The minimum acceptable payoff to a property crime opportunity for the city of Buffalo, New York, is estimated to be between $325 and $400. The expected disutility from punishment for a crime is eight to nine times the minimum acceptable payoff. The model is useful in determining the elasticity of the income tax rate with respect to several important policy parameters.

Documentation of the 2010 Midterm Conference of the European Sociological Association Research Network 20 Qualitative Methods "Innovating Qualitative Research: Challenges and Opportunities. New Directions in Religion, Technology, Migration and Beyond," held at the University of Bayreuth (Germany), 20-22 September 2010. The following documentation includes the inaugural addresses and all statements and interventions from the two plenary sessions on "The Future of Qualitative Research" that took place during the mid-term conference in September 2010 at the University of Bayreuth. Speeches and discussions were entirely videotaped, transcribed and carefully edited in order to present a thorough and readable documentation. The text was revised by all intervening speakers and is published upon unanimous approval. We are grateful to Carolin Dix for valuable support with transcribing the video data.

The aim of the present study was to determine the glucose-6-phostphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency in scheduled caste (SC) population of eastern Uttar Pradesh, India. After taking clearance certificate from the Institutional Ethics Committee, blood samples were collected from total 200 healthy individuals belonging to scheduled caste. G6PD deficiency analysis was done by methemoglobin test according to the method of Brewer et al. (1962). Out of 200 samples, 20 individuals were glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficient and 22 samples were heterozygous that is, carriers. The percentage of G6PD deficient (Gd+/+) and G6PD carrier (Gd+/Gd−) phenotypes were 10% and 11%, respectively. The frequency of mutant allele (Gd−) was observed 0.172. Early detection and prevention is the key strategy for successful management and control of this genetic disease.
