The book elucidates the specific role of constitutional law in the debate on social and economic rights and CSR. It operates from the perspective of International Constitutional Law (ICL), a comparative legal discipline especially concerned with constitutional relations at different levels of legal networks. Today, transnational business corporations – and therewith private actors – affect core economic and social rights in their business relations. Accordingly, it is the decreasing role of the state in the era of globalisation and contemporary trends such as the liberalisation of public utilities which pose challenges to the implementation and enforcement of economic and social rights. The contributions of this book look at the different aspects of these relations on both, the national and international level, given the decisive importance of international human rights law for the protection and implementation of these rights.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Eastern Bloc as an integral part of the transitional processes, the process of dismantling of the welfare state took place almost invisibly. This process minimized the impact of institutional mechanisms in all spheres of human activity in both transition and developed capitalist countries. The process is particularly prominent in the sphere of social policy, but also in the business environment of business entities. Business entities under the pressure of globalization, which implies liberalization of trade and business, keep losing the protection of state institutions, which was implied earlier. The default privileged position on the domestic market and the protection of the business system from the hostile operation of competition is becoming a past. New business opportunities offered by the global market bring with it new challenges in terms of business success and survival on such a market. Corporations are forced to take into account a number of parameters that affect the results of their activities when planning and realizing their operations. A very important moment is the economic environment and the conditions of life and work of the users of their services, as well as the employees in the system. The concept of human security provides a good analytical framework for understanding new conditions and identifying important factors for business success. ; Nakon pada Berlinskog zida i raspada istočnog bloka kao sastavni deo tranzicionih procesa, skoro neprimetno, odvijao se i proces demontaže države blagostanja. Ovaj proces je minimizirao uticaj institucionalnih mehanizama u svim sferama ljudskih aktivnosti, kako u tranzicionim, tako i u razvijenim kapitalističkim zemljama. Proces posebno dolazi do izražaja u sferi socijalne politike, ali i u uslovima poslovanja privrednih subjekata. Privredni subjekti pod pritiskom globalizacije, koja je bazirana na liberalizaciji trgovine i poslovanja, gube zaštitu državnih institucija koja je ranije postojala. Taj podrazumevani privilegovani položaj na domaćem tržištu i zaštita poslovnog sistema od neprijateljskog delovanja konkurencije postaje prošlost. Nove poslovne prilike koje nudi globalno tržište sa sobom nose i nove izazove u pogledu uspešnosti poslovanja i opstanka na tržištu. Korporacije su prinuđene da prilikom planiranja i realizacije poslovanja vode računa o većem broju parametara koji utiču na rezultate njihovih aktivnosti. U datim okolnostima je veoma važno voditi računa o ekonomskom ambijentu i uslovima rada, kako korisnika njihovih usluga, tako i zaposlenih u sistemu. Koncept ljudske bezbednosti daje dobar analitički okvir za razumevanje novih uslova i prepoznavanje najvažnijih faktora za uspešnost poslovanja korporacija.

Many engineering activists have emphasized the need to reframe engineering as a sociotechnical field in order to expand engineers' contributions to social justice and peace. Yet, reframing engineering as sociotechnical does not always lead to critical engagement with social justice. We provide several examples of how "social" aspects have been brought into engineering in a depoliticized manner that limits engagement with political and social justice goals. We link these examples to Cech's three pillars of the "culture of disengagement" in engineering: social/technical dualisms, meritocracy, and depoliticization. We argue that reframing engineering as sociotechnical addresses the first pillar, the social/technical dualism, but does not necessarily include the second and third pillars. We propose that all three pillars can be addressed through integrating explicit attention to political engagement and social justice in efforts to reframe engineering as a sociotechnical field. Doing so can increase engineers' capacity to contribute to social justice and peace.

This book offers a systematic view of social analysis that will advance the communication of results between different academic disciplines. It overcomes misunderstandings that are due to the use of an unstructured variety of methodological traditions in the analysis of complex socioeconomic and political processes. The book focuses on the special features of human society: humans as subjects, non-repetitiveness and irreversibility of social actions, and the peculiar relations between necessity and possibility in human action. It defines methodological criteria, procedures and rules that enable researchers to select and classify realistic hypotheses to derive general principles and basic organizational features. It then applies these criteria in critical reviews of major theories and interpretations of society and history, offering clarifications and alternative proposals with regard to crucial aspects of anthropological, political, juridical, sociological, and religious thought
