Not Available ; Pomfrets which are of considerable commercial importance formed the main bulk constituting about 82% of the "A"class category of the trawler catches of the Government of West Bengal. These trawlers were engaged in exploratory fishing of the different fishing grounds of the Bay of Bengal and the log reports of these vessels provide information only regarding total catch, depth range and nature of bottom, as such, the present investigation has its own limitations. Since no information is available regarding the fishery and biology of' pomfrets the data analysed and presented here throw light on the resources of this fishery in the different fishing regions, its trend and also the biology of Pampus argenteus. ; Not Available

Based largely on surveys & inquiries conducted in Vienna, Austria, an account is presented of the convergence of soc facts & att's emerging from many studies in gerontology. Discussion & propositions are derived, from these studies, re: (1) the importance of changes in the age structure of the pop (2) the empirical evidence re the nature of fam relations of the aged, (3) att's towards intergenerational assistance & joint living, (4) the desire for distance between the aged & others, including their own children, (5) the pros & cons of desocialization, (6) the continuity of emotional fam relations as prerequisites for functional flexibility, (7) theoretical shortcomings in the notions of 'role' & `function,' (8) the woman's influence in keeping the fam together, & (9) sociol'al stages in the ageing process. An examination of why, in studies using a reputational measure of SC, only 3, 4, or 5 SC's are reported, rather than say, 9, 10, or 11 SC's. 100 R's were asked to enumerate the number of SC's & occup'al groups they saw in their community. They also classified the intelligence of people they knew, & diff types of weather, by the number of categories they generally utilized. For all 4 variables the majority of R's utilize 3, 4, or 5 categories. Those who use few (many) categories on one variable tend to use few (many) in describing others. It is concluded that more than a subjective approval is needed to determine the nature of the class structure. AA.

A review of the literature shows that emergency ground conditions for aircraft occur with sufficient frequency to require emergency escape devices. The nature of these emergencies allows for a reasonable possibility of escape if care is taken in selection and design of escape provisions. For normal low-wing aircraft, the inflatable escape slide provides for reliable support during descent. Extensive experimental data are given for design of overwing emergency exits and similar installations. These data show some significant relations to body dimensions and agility of the subject. Standard methods are necessary for comparing escape exit tests in the future, if optimum design of exits and devices for minimum weight and space requirements is to be achieved.

If we are successfully to relate our work with the main body of Economic History, we must be able to show the fundamental relationship between quantitative analysis and more conventional methods of economic historians. The historian reconstructs events of the past, and with them attempts to understand the institutions and modes of behavior associated with those events. He seeks to construct a consistent story revealing the fundamental nature and meaning to us of the past, thus creating insight into the past and understanding of it—something considerably beyond a mere account of what probably happened. However, this story must be based upon, and be consistent with, the reconstructed events of the past, "what probably happened."

It has become customary to begin a discussion of the nature and present state of the discipline of international relations with a number of complaints. This article will not abandon the custom; indeed, its purpose is, in the first place, to state the conviction that many of the problems we face in our field can be solved only by far more systematic theoretical work than has been done in the past—a conviction shared by most writers. Secondly, however, I will try to show that recent approaches to a general theory of international relations are unsatisfactory, because each one is, in its own fashion, a short cut to knowledge—sometimes even a short cut to a destination that is anything but knowledge.

The delinquency rates for white boys in three areas of Louisville, Kentucky, were compared for the period 1944-1954. These areas were selected because they were similar in certain ecological characteristics. The delinquency rates decreased steadily over an eight-year period in the area where there was a Boys' Club. The delinquency rates in the two other areas with no youth-serving agencies increased over the same period of time. Some discussion is devoted to the limited nature of any conclusions that can be derived from a statistical study of this type in which several factors can not be controlled. The study indicates that the Boys' Club was probably one important factor in the decline in delinquency in an area of a city where delinquency was increasing in other sections.

Meinecke assumed that the juridical nature of the state was not a concrete fact but a utopian example of the values in a society which are simply not encumbered by the quality of human actions. Historicism led him to neglect the juridical & sociol'al points of view to the extent that he was concerned with stable, objective & typical structures. To have used categories taken from the theoretical disciplines of pol'al sci in his historiographic works would have constituted, for Meinecke, a narrowing of his vision. Particular projects are sketched out in the areas of demography, marriage & the fam, SC structure, pol'al, Ru, & Ur sociol, & ethnic group relations. Over-pop, for example, makes the identification & description of the various factors affecting diff'ial fertility an important task. Efforts to raise the standards of living of the vast majority of mankind necessitate an examination of the hypothesis that peasantry & a large-sized fam are almost synonymous. The areas of Latin America which have high proportions of Indian pop are seen as excellent laboratories for the study of racial diff's & prejudices. Finally, the value of a sociol'al approach to problems such as public health which are 'not strictly sociol'al in nature' is emphasized. M. Duke.

The study of the value of politicians as orators remains to be made. How have they been trained? Do they actually have courses of training in this skill? How are their speeches prepared; by summaries of texts, by improvisation, by the use of a corps of collaborators, etc? How can their style be explained; by the influence of the group in which they live, by the nature of their pol'al party, by parliamentary habits, etc? How can the particular situation of the diplomats be explained? It will be necessary to record the debates & great speeches of the politicians & the diplomats & to ask them to recollect, in their memoires, their oratorical experiences. Tr by J. A. Over a period of many months, both before and since the abdication of King Farouk, responsible heads of government in Egypt have been voicing a claim to the entire Nile Basin, although practical measures to convert the claim into control have been pointed chiefly toward that part of the Basin included in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan.It is the fashion nowadays, especially in the United States, to assume that river basins are coherent, nature-given units of the earth's surface, without questioning their fitness for unified political administration or sovereignty. According to that fashion, even the extreme Egyptian claim seems cogent. The Nile Basin is a drainage unit and clearly appears so on the map (Fig. 1)

A letter from the Indian Commissioner answering Platt Cline's inquiry into the Hopi Tribal Council. The commissioner states the Bureau's position in regards to the Tribal Council as supported by the Hopi consitution and by-laws. Also includes a document outlining the Hopi's claim to the right to refuse to go to war for the United States due to their pacifist nature. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: The Ammon Hennacy Associates were Quaker activists Virginia Anderson and George Yamada who in the 1950s wrote letters on behalf of the Hopi to United States Government leaders from the BIA to the Justice Department. Anderson was an Arizona State University Instructor in Social Work and Psychology and George Yamada, was a World War II draft resister.
