Cet article revient sur les manières dont les jeunes de classes populaires et moyennes interprètent les rapports de classe contenus dans les scénarios des télénovelas. Ce travail, en conséquence, explore d'abord les différences de classe à la lumière de la modernisation périphérique au Brésil et plaide en faveur de l'étude des télénovelas et de ses audiences (différemment situées dans l'espace social) en tant qu'objet central pour comprendre la modernité. Ensuite, il développe une méthodologie systématique conçue pour les études de réception et traitant de la complexité des interactions socioculturelles quotidiennes sous l'angle du fonctionnement de l'homologie. La conclusion souligne que, si les telenovelas promeuvent la foi dans le mérite individuel et obscurcit les inégalités au Brésil, les enquêtés proposent des lectures « hégémoniques » et « négociées » des messages autour de la pauvreté.

In several countries, governments have embarked on major building expansion programs for their judiciaries. The new buildings posit the courtroom as their center and the judge as that room's pivot. These contemporary projects follow the didactic path laid out in Medieval and Renaissance town halls, which repeatedly deployed symbolism in efforts to shape norms. Dramatic depictions then reminded judges to be loyal subjects of the state. In contrast, modern buildings narrate not only the independence of judges but also the dominion of judges, insulated from the state. The significant allocation of public funds reflects the prestige accorded to courts by governments that dispatch world-renowned architects to design these icons of the state. The investment in spectacular structures represents a tribute to the judiciary but should also serve as a reminder of courts' dependency on other branches of government, which authorize budgets and shape jurisdictional authority. A double narrative comes as well from the design choices. The frequent reliance on glass facades is explained as denoting the accessibility and transparency of the law. But courthouse interiors tell another story, in which segregated passageways ("les trois flux") have become the norm, devoting substantial space and cost to isolating participants from each other. Further, administrative offices consume the largest percentage of the square footage, illuminating a shift away from public adjudication toward alternative dispute resolution and problematizing the emphasis on courtrooms. The new monumentality reflects but does not frankly acknowledge the challenges to courts from democratic precepts that grant "everyone" entitlements to public hearings before independent jurists. The buildings are reminders of courts' contributions to the public sphere, while new rules reconfiguring adjudication privilege private conciliation.

However, bringing Wittgenstein close to a materialist position as understood by L. Althusser leads to a different understanding of critique, linked to the deconstruction of the philosophical discourse that attempts to unify and hierarchically organize the certainties that are constitutive of the different language games in which the social is deployed. The negative effects associated with the policy's implementation will be discussed, as well as its implications for human rights discourse and political activism.

In his account of 18 September 1379, the bailiff of the Vier Ambachten, a rural circumscription in Flanders, noted that a woman was to be fined "only half as much as a man." This assertion "of half value," however, was the first of its kind. An examination of early fourteenth-century Flemish accounts indicates that the "half-value" principle never found expression in practice. Over the course of the fourteenth century, changes took place in both social and economic practices that correlated with a growing constriction of female economic and social agency. The present argument is in line with other scholarship that makes claims for such a constriction within the late-medieval and early-modern period.
