Debido a la interacción entre los instructores extranjeros y los reclutas locales en la Asistencia a Fuerzas de Seguridad (SFA), los militares desplegados a menudo experimentan retos derivados de las fricciones culturales. Este artículo analiza la relevancia de la conciencia intercultural para el desempeño militar en la SFA. La investigación se basa en datos obtenidos de 22 entrevistas personales a militares españoles para conocer su experiencia en Iraq (2015-2022). Los resultados identifican las diferencias culturales como la principal dificultad para el despliegue.Los militares españoles han empleado diferentes estrategias para hacerles frente, basándose principalmente en la interacción mediante comunicación mediada o directa con el personal local. A pesar de ello, la sociabilidad de los efectivos ha sido identificada como un elemento distintivo de los militares españoles que facilita la construcción de relaciones.

AbstractAs judicial elections become increasingly expensive, recusal has emerged as a way to address concerns about the impartiality of judges who receive contributions from lawyers or potential litigants. While it is unclear if strict recusal rules are the best remedy for conflicts of interest created by contributions, they may disincentivize potential donors from investing in judicial campaigns by negating their potential goal of influencing decisions. We consider whether donor behavior in judicial campaigns – especially for those donors most likely to be interested in specifically currying favor with judges – responds to differences in recusal standards. Using data from 219 state supreme court races in 22 states from 2010 to 2020, we find that states with stricter recusal rules attract fewer campaign donations to judicial races, and states with more lax rules attract more overall and, most especially, for attorney donors.

Xenophobia, racism, and the resulting discrimination in practice hinder the path towards achieving regulated equality and the prohibition of discrimination, aiming for a society where all individuals can enjoy substantial equality. Specifically, Directive 2000/43/EC was developed within the framework of the European Community to protect migrants and individuals belonging to ethnic minorities who are more likely to be victims of such discriminatory acts and may find themselves in a situation of greater vulnerability due to structural circumstances.This study examines the various areas of application of the Directive that have been addressed judicially by the Court of Justice of the European Union. To accomplish this, a critical analysis is conducted of the limited number of pronouncements despite more than two decades having passed since the Directive's entry into force.Received: 22 May 2023 Accepted: 18 November 2023

On September 22, 2022, a one-day international symposium took place in Rio de Janeiro: Epidemia de transfobia. This was actually a counter-event organized in response to another international event, Congresso Brazileiro de Transsexualidade, whose opening lecture, planned on the same day in Belo Horizonte, was entitled: A epidemia transgênero. This four- day conference was to close exactly a week before the Presidential election in Brazil, on October 2nd. Four years earlier, Jair Bolsonaro had used the homophobic fake news of a 'gay kit' allegedly distributed in schools to prevail over his opponent from the Workers' Party, and anti-trans political rhetoric had since played an important role in his campaign against 'gender ideology'. However, the transphobic conference was soon cancelled – probably due to widespread opposition, starting with that of the National Association of Travestis and Transsexuals (ANTRA). Still, the counter-event was maintained.

AbstractWe explore the role of the largest means‐tested transfer program, Medicaid, on multiple measures of food hardship among households with children, including measures that capture hardship explicitly experienced by children. Using data from the 2001 to 2020 waves of the December Current Population Survey, we identify the effect of having a Medicaid‐eligible child on household food hardship by exploiting between‐state, over‐time, and between‐household income eligibility criteria. We find that having an eligible child reduces rates of household food insecurity and very low food security by 20% and 26%, respectively. Among children themselves, eligibility reduces rates of food insecurity and very low food security by 22% each. The effects are stronger for households headed by Black and Hispanic individuals as well as households that have children under 6 years old.

O objetivo é identificar, através da revisão integrativa, as principais categorias temáticas que envolvem a trajetória de vida dos catadores de materiais recicláveis, debatidas pela literatura, a partir da criação da Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (PNRS). Fizeram parte estudos realizados a partir da promulgação da Lei n. 12.305/2010, até 22 de outubro de 2022, em bases de dados, como o Portal Capes, SciELO, SPELL e BDTD. Os resultados trazem de forma clara o limite desses empreendimentos coletivos e da PNRS. Destaca-se a necessidade do aumento da renda desses trabalhadores, melhoria das condições de trabalho, garantias trabalhistas e o reconhecimento destes enquanto agente ambiental. Como lacunas de pesquisa, observou-se que faltam estudos que possam nortear soluções para a promoção de melhorias nas condições de trabalho e soluções para a efetiva adequação dos direitos trabalhistas.

In a historical march, tens of thousands of judicial staff, lawyers, and judges – including at least one justice of the Supreme Court – took to the streets of Mexico City on 22 October 2023. Chanting slogans such as '¡El Poder Judicial de la Federación no se toca!' and '¡Somos los garantes de la Constitución!' protesters rallied against the Mexican government's plans to slash the federal judiciary's (Poder Judicial de la Federación, PJF) funding. In this contribution, we analyse what this dispute is all about and explain why the government's plans jeopardise the independence of the Mexican judiciary. In particular, we argue that the recent, seemingly innocent financial measures come at the cusp of an alarming authoritarian turn. Finally, we offer some tentative thoughts on what the endgame in this quickly escalating dispute might look like.

Young people who experience out-of-home care have typically encountered difficult and/or disrupted family relationships. This article reports on a survey undertaken in the US with 215 young adults (aged 18–22) who experienced out-of-home care starting in pre-adolescence. The article examines responses to an open-ended interview question, 'How do you define family?' The analysis highlighted that few young people define family as confined to blood relations. More commonly, young people adopted more flexible definitions, prioritising the 'doing' and reflecting on their conceptions of family; attempting to 'do family' differently from what they had experienced was also evident. The findings encourage consideration of the utility of family as an important concept for child welfare practice, as positive and flexible understandings of family were imbued with a sense of agency, identity, belonging and overall wellbeing.

Studimet e larta i përfundoi në vitin 1976 për mjek veterinar. Gjatë viteve 1977-1986 do ta ushtronte profesionin e tij në fshatra të ndryshme të Përmetit ku, gjatë kësaj periudhe ka kryer edhe specializime të ndryshme pasuniversitare. Ndërsa pas viteve 1990 aktivitetin studimor do ta përqendronte në fushën e historisë duke fituar në vitin 2013 titullin Doktor i Shkencave Historike pranë Fakultetit të Historisë dhe të Filologjisë të Universitetit të Tiranës me temën "Treva e Përmetit në periudhën e viteve 1912-1944".

The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant upheaval for couples and families, particularly in terms of living arrangements. Emerging adults had to make quick decisions about where and with whom to shelter in place. In this grounded theory study, we explored how 22 young adults, predominantly living in the United States, navigated relationship decisions during the pandemic. The results suggest that participants were intentional about their choices, particularly in terms of moving in together (or not). The pandemic sometimes changed the timing of cohabitation or the pace of dating relationships; however, these decisions unfolded in tandem with common developmental tasks, such as college graduation and launching a career. More broadly, our findings suggest that participants' responses to the pandemic both reflected core aspects of emerging adulthood (e.g., instability, feeling in-between) and also challenged them (e.g., other focus, limited exploration).

We conducted a secondary analysis of the evaluations of 22 sites participating in four primary care redesign initiatives funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services or the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. Our objectives were to determine the overall impact of the initiatives on Medicare expenditures and whether specific site-level program features influenced expenditure findings. Averaged over sites, the mean intervention effect was a statistically insignificant US$26 per beneficiary per year. Policy implications from meta-regression results suggest that funders should consider supporting technical assistance efforts and pay for performance incentives to increase savings. There was no evidence that paying for medical home transformation produced savings in total cost of care. We estimate that in future evaluations, data from 35 sites would be needed to detect feature effects of US$300 per beneficiary per year.

Leadership and meaningful work: The possibilities and challenges of the Vocational Meaning and Fulfillment Survey
In this study we examined how leaders perceive meaningful work and if the new Vocational Meaning and Fulfillment Survey (VMFS) could be used as a leadership tool in organizations. The data were collected through 22 semistructured thematic interviews and analyzed with a phenomenographic approach. Three categories of perspectives on meaningful work were found: individual, organizational and holistic. The VMFS was perceived as a useful and practical tool by most of the leaders. It could be used at individual, team, and organizational levels to measure the experience of meaningfulwork and to decide where to focus efforts to foster such work. When introducing VMFS into organizations, attention should be paid to proper user training and ensuring the engagement of the management and supervisors.

This study discusses how television viewers' definitions of beauty are affected by advertisements. The media effects on the perception of beauty and truth are explained in detail as the investigation unfolds. In November 2021 and May 2022, the study collected data through individual interviews with 22 women aged 18 to 63. The data gleaned from these interviews was interpreted with Stuart Hall's coding-encoding theory using Peircein trichotomy and Foucault's truth relations and truth games. The study found that one of the new functions of advertising is to enable female viewers to make personal evaluations of physical beauty standards and concluded that beauty is not truth but is a construct manufactured by advertisements. Female audiences read women shown in ads with multiple dimensions of significance and sensibility to experience the presentation and re-presentation of the women.

La crise liée à la pandémie de Covid-19 en France en 2020 bouleverse l'organisation du travail et les relations professionnelles dans les entreprises. Dans ce contexte, les comités sociaux et économiques (CSE), pourtant dans la plupart des cas nouvellement instaurés depuis leur création avec les ordonnances du 22 septembre 2017, ont un rôle important à jouer. Cette période fait ressortir les tensions que soulève le passage au CSE. Ainsi, elle accentue les rapports qu'entretenaient les acteurs à la nouvelle instance auparavant : là où les CSE n'étaient que peu sollicités, les acteurs les délaissent entièrement. Ailleurs, les acteurs les vident presque entièrement de leur substance en se contentant d'une simple information auprès des élus, ou en leur préférant la négociation collective avec les délégués syndicaux ou encore la création d'instances ad hoc .

The present series of contributions critically edits in Romanian and English, with concordances and commentary, a string of unpublished, multilingual manuscripts written by the young Mircea Eliade, Indologist, and historian of religions in South Asia, from 1929 to 1931. Previously unknown, the manuscripts were purchased by a private collector, who most graciously contacted the editors in February 2023 and bequeathed them for the present publication. The series complements ECCE | The Complete Critical Edition of Mircea Eliade's Scholarly Works before 1945, under the auspices of the Institute for the History of Religions in Bucharest (first two volumes forthcoming). The first two instalments of MEUM | Mircea Eliade's Unpublished Manuscripts from Private Collections were published in Transilvania 51 [155] (2023), no. 1, pp. 1-22 (Critical edition) and no. 2, pp. 1-16 (Concordances A-E).
