This book examines the geo-racialized order of the Colombian state and its consequences for Afro-descendant territories. To do so, it employs a historical institutional approach tracing racial exclusion and subnational socioeconomic outcomes in Colombia during the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. It uses a mixed-methods and interdisciplinary qualitative and quantitative analytical approach to identify the quantitative effects of informal racial exclusion on subnational collective outcomes, as well as to show more precisely how these effects were generated. Through its exploration of Colombia's geo-racialized project, implicit exclusion of Afro-descendant territories and spatialized nature of racial diversity, this book contributes to literatures of Latin American political economy, institutional theory, racial politics and economic history. Irina España-Eljaiek is Assistant Professor at Universidad Nacional, Bogotá, Colombia. She holds a doctoral degree in economics and social sciences from the University of Cologne and the International Max Planck Research School, both in Germany. Her research interests include institutional theory, economic history, regional development, racial exclusion, education, and research methods. She specifically studies the effects of historical institutions on subnational socioeconomic development in Latin America, combining mixed method approaches and social science disciplines

"This book explores religion-regime relations in contemporary Zimbabwe to identify patterns of co-operation and resistance across diverse religious institutions. Using co-operation and resistance as an analytical framework, the book shows how different religious organisations have interacted with Emmerson Mnangagwa's "Second Republic", following Robert Mugabe's departure from the political scene. This book presents 14 chapters, through which a team of global, expert contributors cover a full range of microplastic research. The first chapter describes the general patterns for sources, occurrence, and transport of microplastics to lead off the book. The next batch of chapters covers sampling analytical methods for quantifying microplastics in the environment, followed by chapters addressing the association of chemicals with microplastics. A large cluster of chapters focus on the fate and transport of microplastics in wastewater treatment plants, freshwater systems, marine environment, terrestrial settings, and riverine runoff that connects terrestrial and marine systems. The next few chapters examine biotransport and effects of microplastics in organisms. "Revolutionary Republicanism provides a history of French republicanism seen through a seminal episode of its creation - the 1848 revolution. The process of reinventing republicanism in 1848 gave rise to two opposite understandings or republicanism: a moderate one that merely adapted the institutions of representative governement to popular sovereignty, and a more radical, 'social-democratic' notion of republicanism, 'democratic and social', based on inclusive forms of participation and aiming at the emancipation of the proletariat. These two notions of republicanism unfolded over the course of the few critical months between the revolution of February 1848 and the uprising of June 1848, which saw the victory of the moderate one. Playing devil's advocate to the traditional republican history that casts 1848 as a mere step in the continuous history of French republicanism, the book demonstrates that the events of the revolution amounted to a repression of all that the 'Republic' had meant up until that point, particularly the forms of participation and popular representation hitherto seen as constituting a republican regime.
