Das Hauptziel der Studie ist die Untersuchung der Prävalenz von Gewalt gegen Frauen und Mädchen und ihre Folgen für die Gesundheit und das Wohlbefinden von Frauen, um Ansatzpunkte für die Politikgestaltung zu geben. Die wichtigsten Forschungsfragen waren: (1) Wie sind die Einstellungen und Normen bezüglich Geschlechterrollen und Gewalt gegen Frauen? (2) Wie groß ist das Ausmaß der Gewalt, die Frauen in den Gebieten erfahren, die von der Umfrage abgedeckt werden? (3) Welche Formen von Gewalt erleben Frauen? (4) Wer sind die Täter/-innen von Gewalt gegen Frauen? (5) Welche Folgen hat Gewalt für die Gesundheit und das Wohlbefinden von Frauen? (6) Berichten Frauen ihre Erfahrungen der Polizei oder anderen Behörden oder Organisationen? Wenn nicht, warum nicht? (7) Gibt es Unterschiede zwischen den Gewalterfahrungen von Frauen je nach Alter, Bildung, beruflicher Status, Einkommen oder ob sie einer Minderheit angehören oder aus einem ländliches Gebiet stammen? Die Studie zielte auch darauf ab, die genannten Forschungsfragen im Hinblick darauf zu untersuchen, ob Frauen einen bewaffneten Konflikt erlebt hatten.

Gesundheit, Sicherheitsgefühl, Wissen über Dienste/Organisationen, die Frauen unterstützen.
Sexuelle Belästigung.
Erfahrungen mit körperlicher und sexueller Gewalt durch andere Personen als die aktuellen oder früheren Partner der befragten Person.
Erfahrungen mit physischer und sexueller Gewalt durch den aktuellen Partner der befragten Person.
Gegenwärtiger Partner-Hintergrund
Demographische Angaben über den aktuellen Partner des Befragten.
Erfahrungen mit körperlicher und sexueller Gewalt durch die frühere(n) Partnerin(n) des/der Befragten.
Erfahrungen mit Stalking oder wiederholten Vorfällen (unwillkommene Telefonanrufe, Empfang unerwünschter Textnachrichten, E-Mails, Briefe oder Fotos oder unerwünschte persönliche Kommentare im Internet).
Gewalterfahrungen in der Kindheit.
Gewalt im Konflikt.
Wahrnehmungen darüber, wie verbreitet Gewalt gegen Frauen ist, wie gut informierte Frauen sich darüber fühlen, was sie tun sollen, wenn sie Gewalt erfahren, wahrgenommene Mitteilungen über Gewalt gegen Frauen.
Hintergrund der Befragten (z.B. Alter, beruflicher Status, Familienstand usw.).
Interviewer-Feedback.
Für Frauen, die von Konflikten betroffen sind, werden Fragen dazu gestellt, ob irgendein Vorfall und insbesondere der schwerste erlebte Gewaltvorfall mit einem bewaffneten Konflikt zusammenhängt, den die Befragte durchlebt hat.
