This article analyzes the factors and variables behind China and India's development growth since the subprime crisis of 2007; examining various demographics, social, cultural, and political structuring, as well as the stages involved in reform. The authors also study the shady side of the commercial upswing, the development indicators such as the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Gini-Index, included among other disparities concerning the poor, income concentration, migration, and other social related data. Next, the article presents some ecological challenges and the utilization of natural resources, new technological measures, and some alternative solutions to the picture. Then the authors highlight aspects in respect to economic data and indicators, such as income increases of rural populations, infrastructure building, and guarantees of health care and education in this prognosis of good economic health. In concluding the article the authors comment on the factors behind both nations' economic growth success, including those particularly geared toward this upswing, set against a myriad of social and economic challenges. "Conservative Political Communication examines the evolution of appeals, media, and tactics in right-wing media and political communication, tracking trends and shifts from the early days of contemporary conservatism in the 1950s to the Trump administration. The chapters in this edited volume feature the work of senior and junior scholars from the fields of communication, journalism, and political science employing content analytic, experimental, survey, historical, and rhetorical research methodologies. Analyses of the rise of the 24-hour news cycle, the range of partisan news sources, and the role of social media algorithms in political campaigns yield insights for our media and information ecosystems. A key theme across these chapters is how right-wing channels and communications help and hinder partisan fragmentation, a condition whereby novice elected officials create personal conservative brands, appeal to the base through partisan media, and complicate senior leadership's ability to engage in bargaining, compromise, and deal-making. This volume interrogates conservative media and messaging to track where these processes came from, how they functioned in the 2016 United States presidential campaign, and where they may be going in the future. This book will interest scholars and upper-level students of political communication, media and politics, and political science, as well as readers invested in today's political media landscape in the United States"--

This contribution explains how socially responsible investing (SRI) has evolved in the last few decades and sheds light on its latest developments. It describes different forms of SRI in the financial markets; and deliberates on the rationale for the utilization of positive and negative screenings of listed businesses and public organizations. A comprehensive literature review suggests that the providers of financial capital are increasingly allocating funds toward positive impact and sustainable investments. Therefore, this descriptive paper provides a factual summary of the proliferation of SRI products in financial markets. Afterwards it presents the opportunities and challenges facing the stakeholders of SRI. This research presents a historic overview on the growth of SRI products in the financial services industry. It clarifies that the market for responsible investing has recently led to an increase in a number of stakeholders, including; contractors, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and research firms who are involved in the scrutinization of the businesses' environmental, social and governance (ESG) behaviors. This discursive contribution raises awareness on the screenings of positive impact and sustainable investments. The researcher contends that today's socially responsible investors are increasingly analyzing the businesses' non-financial performance, including their ESG credentials. In conclusion this paper puts forward future research avenues in this promising field of study. ; peer-reviewed
International audience ; In the evolution of the European Community, the most obvious aspect is the various changes, without any specific limit, of its geographical dimension. As a result, there are many questions of the European Union's internal geopolitics as to the way in which the territories and their populations are represented in the various bodies as well as on the real nature of the democratic nature of the European Union. Finally, it is necessary to examine its relations with countries that are not members ; Dans l'évolution de l'Europe communautaire, l'aspect le plus manifeste tient aux différents changements, sans limite précisée, de sa dimension géographique.

The purpose of the following research is to examine the current situation of qualified European guides. It is not our ambition to propose a new approach or methodology, but to explore the different perspectives on the activity of the guide in Europe. To do this, we first focused on attempts to negotiate the definition of this activity, which varies according to the perspective taken. The formal definition resulting from the European strategic framework aims at specifying its public service dimension, its technical competence and its territoriality. Next, we questioned the environment of the guide at work in Europe, and its different strategic, legal and socio-economic aspects. This field of action highlights the effects of the correlation between the concepts of heritage, culture and democratic interaction. Finally, the nature of the activity captured from the inside, via the guided tour and case studies in Europe and France, underlines the guide's cultural and didactic action. In order to be able to observe the situation of the qualified European guide as a whole, we have chosen a holistic vision combining a functionalist and an interactionist approach in order to propose an interpretation of the representations of the stake holders involved. To that end, six qualitative surveys were carried out among expert guides. They were then supplemented by the testimonies of the designers, implementers and visitors. The results are accompanied by an academic theoretical corpus that helps to understand why the key moments taken from the field are problematic in terms of a harmonious professional development. Our research confirms that the guide's activity is physical and symbolic as well as institutional and social and comprises both global and local aspects. It shows that it is the educational institutions or professional associations that are led to propose common ground to players with opposite interests and smooth the tensions between them. The results of our research clearly show that in the face of the health, ...
"Challenging the assumption that access to technology is pervasive and globally balanced, this book explores the real and potential limitations placed on young people's literacy education by their limited access to technology and digital resources. Drawing on research studies from around the globe, Stories from Inequity to Justice in Literacy Education identifies social, economic, racial, political and geographical factors which can limit populations' access to technology, and outlines the negative, sometimes hidden impacts this can have on young people's lives. Reflecting macro, meso and micro inequities, chapters highlight complex issues surrounding the productive use of technology and young peoples' creative and dynamic mobilization of multimodal practices to make meaning. The collection illustrates how digital divides might be remedied to resolve inequities in learning environments and beyond. Contesting the digital divides which are implicitly embedded in aspects of everyday life and learning, this book will be of great interest to researchers and post-graduate academics in the field of literacy education"--
In Retrieving Experience, Sonia Kruks engages critically with the postmodern turn in feminist and social theory. She contends that, although postmodern analyses yield important insights about the place of discourse in constituting subjectivity, they lack the ability to examine how experience often exceeds the limits of discourse. To address this lack and explain why it matters for feminist politics, Kruks retrieves and employs aspects of postwar French existential theory—a tradition that, she argues, postmodernism has obscured by militantly rejecting its own genealogy.Kruks seeks to refocus our attention on the importance for feminism of embodied and "lived" experiences. Through her original readings of Simone de Beauvoir and other existential thinkers—including Sartre, Fanon, and Merleau-Ponty—and her own analyses inspired by their work, Kruks sheds new light on central problems in feminist theory and politics. These include debates about subjectivity and individual agency; questions about recognition and identity politics; and discussion of whether embodied experiences may sometimes facilitate solidarity among groups of different women

We investigated the relationships between political beliefs regarding two aspects of the right-left distinction (cultural and economic) and the acceptance of the pandemic restrictions using variable-centred and person-centred approaches. The community sample consisted of 305 participants. Four groups of the restrictions were considered. Religious fundamentalism predicted positively the acceptance of the restrictions associated with the limitations of labour rights and those limiting civil rights without a direct impact on safety. Anti-welfare negatively predicted the acceptance of the restrictions regarding social distancing and those limiting civil rights and increasing safety. These associations were discussed in relation to basic needs and values which motivate persons who endorse right-wing or left-wing political views. The latent profile analysis revealed three profiles of political beliefs, which were termed "Conservative Statists," "Liberal Laissez-fairists," and "Conservative Laissez-fairists." The profiles differed in terms of acceptance of the pandemic restrictions, and the patterns of these relationships were different for particular groups of restrictions.
Manifestos of political parties are considered the roadmap of any political party to work for the well-being of the people and to persuade them to vote for that party. The present research critically analyses the religio-political elements present in the manifestos published during 2013-2018 of three Pakistani political parties (PTI, PML-N & JIP). The researchers have employed Dijk's 2004, 2009 and Wodak 2001 analytical model to analyze the discourse of manifestos of PTI, PML-N & JIP. The levels of analysis include othering, lexicalization, allusion and authority. The research finds that these three political parties have associated religion with different social and political activities to do politics. The quantification of data in terms of religious representation highlights that PTI has made use of religious aspects 40 times, PML-N 214 times and JIP 236 times in their manifestos. Additionally, the research highlights that political manifestos are among the best sites for the investment of religio-political ideology.
Human behaviour analysis through smartphone devices has been an active field for more than a decade and there are still a lot of key aspects to be addressed. This paper surveys the state-of-the-art in human behaviour analysis based on smartphones. We categorise prior works into four main sensing modalities related to physical, cognitive, emotional and social behaviour. Finally, we conclude with the outcomes of this survey and we illustrate our ideas for future research in the area of human behaviour understanding. ; This work has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement #769553.
