This article offers a synoptic narrative informed by a political anthropology that retraces the historical genesis of modern nation-state formation in Yemen, and describes the mechanisms of its reproduction as an explanatory prelude to the ultimate political implosion of both the Yemeni state and the national polity in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. The article elucidates the trajectory of the state's formation through the following tasks: First, it examines the catalytic factors and forces that structured the relations between the Yemeni state and the national polity, and systematically reviews the institutional and agential consequences in the form of endemic antinomies of governance, which resulted in the permanent structural disarticulation between state and nation. Second, it undertakes a history-embedded analysis of the state's adoption of an existential politics that led to a hybrid political system of elite patronage and mass clientelism. Third, it performs a structural anatomy of the state formation process that culminated in a cabalistic corporatist state exercising a consociational domination over a socio-geographically fragmented polity. And fourth, it assesses the impacts of Yemen's Arab Spring on the likely configuration of the nation-state nexus given the re-emergence of centrifugal forces that are threatening to sunder the nation into multiple regional polities.

"This contribution adopts a state- and regulation-theoretical approach to the welfare state in Europe and the more general issue of whether the EU operates more as a marionette or regisseur. I argue that the concepts of welfare and competition state are too vague to provide a useful account of recent transformations in European statehood and propose instead that a transition is now well under way from different forms of Keynesian national welfare state to different forms of Schumpeterian workfare postnational regime. I also reject the two competing descriptions of the European Union and suggest an-other, namely, that the EU is a co-dependent co-regisseur of the multilevel metagovernance of the contradictory and conflictual process of Europeanization in a still emerging world society. In this context I further argue that, while the EU is the dominant metagovernance instance within Europe in this regard, it is only a nodal instance of multilevel metagovernance on the global stage." Discusses how, despite rhetoric indicating broad support to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, there are forces at work pushing for a single binational state. In international diplomacy there is a pervasive idea that it is possible and necessary to establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza that will exist side by side with Israel. Many Israelis and Palestinians want this and believe in it. But the forces working against this possibility are many and powerful. Israeli governments have enabled the settlement of over half a million Jews beyond the 1967 borders. This represents almost 10 percent of the Jews in Israel. About 300,000 of them live in settlements in the West Bank and about 200,000 are in the Jewish neighborhoods of East Jerusalem. There are those among them who will fight with all their strength to prevent an Israeli withdrawal and the establishment of a Palestinian state. But what is no less important is that on the Palestinian side as well a new situation has emerged. National unity has dissolved, the national movement has atrophied and declined, and the idea has become acceptable that if there won't be two states for two peoples, it is better that there be one state.

AbstractA simple method to derive optimal steady states of multi‐state dynamic economic systems with minimal assumptions on the underlying processes is developed. This is accomplished by an n‐dimensional function defined over the n‐dimensional state space in terms of the model's primitives. The location and stability properties of optimal steady state candidates are characterized by the roots and derivatives of this function. A resource management example illustrates the simplicity and applicability of the method.

The study talks about the issue of the fragile State and the reconstruction of the stateby considering Sudan as a case study. The study also aims at identifying the term "Fragile State" used in politics and international relations, explaining the causes of the failure of the State and identifying the indicators for measuring the failure of the State and its grades. Also to identify the factors that made the state of the Sudan a state to which the criteria of failure applicable, this study was used to answer questions and achieve the objectives of both the analytical descriptive curriculum, the historical curriculum and the case study curriculum, as well as to learn about the terminology and quality of State-building.

Unemployment rates vary across individual US states at any point in time and respond to business-cycle fluctuations differently. Evaluating what constitutes a "normal" level for the unemployment rate at the state level is not easy, but it is an important issue for policymakers. We introduce a framework that enables us to calculate the normal unemployment rate for each of the four states in the Fourth District and compare that rate to the national normal rate. We conclude that these states and the District as a whole have very little labor market slack left from the Great Recession.
