Souvent contestées et affaiblies, les religions, y compris celles qui se reconnaissent comme descendance d'Abraham, sont toujours présentes et souvent vivantes dans les sociétés d'aujourd'hui. Marquées par une longue histoire, elles cherchent à s'adapter aux mutations culturelles et sociétales de notre époque, tout en s'efforçant de rester fidèles au message originel, transmis, pour les religions abrahamiques, par la Bible ou le Coran. Le présent livre évoque d'une part les particularités des trois confessions chrétiennes, ainsi que du judaïsme et de l'islam, dans leurs doctrines et leurs pratiques, en faisant place aussi à leur insertion dans la vie sociale et culturelle. Il traite d'autre part des dialogues menés à l'intérieur du christianisme, et des relations interreligieuses entre les chrétiens, les juifs et les musulmans, pour mettre en évidence ce qui les rapproche dans leurs textes fondateurs et leur histoire. Même si elles sont confrontées aujourd'hui aux défis de la modernité et de la postmodernité, ou encore à ceux de la sécularisation, elles proposent un chemin jalonné par une foi en Dieu, un vécu, des fêtes et des engagements éthiques

This paper is a critical response to the newest version of the rational choice theory of religion (RCTR). In comparison with previous critiques, this paper takes aim at RCTR's foundational assumption of psychological egoism and argues that the thesis of psychological egoism is untenable. Without that thesis, the normative aspects of religious commitment cannot be reduced validly to instrumental reason. On neither conceptual nor empirical grounds therefore can religion or religious commitment be defined comprehensively in terms of exchange theory. With the failure of psychological egoism as a point of departure, the paper articulates an alternative theory of religion, one based on the epistemic rationality grounded in religious experience and religious emotion.

The study examined the biblical concept of sin in Christian Religion. It explored the concept of sin in Ifá Corpus of African Indigenous Religion. This was done with a view to eliciting an intercultural understanding of the concept of sin in Yorùbá and biblical cultures. The selected texts of the Bible were interpreted using "Theological Interpretation of Scripture" (TIS) method, while the data collected from both Yorùbá and biblical cultures were analysed using the 'Intercultural Hermeneutics Principles.' The result shows that Sin è̩s̩è̩ in Ifá corpus is conceived as às̩ìs̩è (a mistaken deed, a deed that is wide of the mark), àìtọ́ (that which is not straight forward), àìyẹ (unbefitting, unbecoming), àìgbọràn (disobedience), ìrúfin (breaking of the law), àìs̩ótítọ́ (untruthfulness), àìs̩òdodo (unrighteousness) and iniquity (àìs̩edéédé). Also, Sin is conceived as Èèwò̩ (things forbidden, taboo) or A kìí s̩e é (it is not done). All these cognate with the Hebrew words for Sin in Old Testament: Pesha (breaching of morals, passing a reasonable boundary, or breaking a just rule), Chatha (to miss the mark), Awon (iniquity, guilt or punishment) and the Greek words for Sin in the New Testament: Parabaino (to transgress, break or deviate from the way), Parabasis (wrong doing), Paraptoma (trespass, offense, fall, sin, or fault), hamartia and hamartano (a missing of the mark), adikia (unrighteousness), anomia (breaking of the law), apeitheo (disobedience) and apistos (unbelief). The study concluded that there is an intercultural understanding of the concept of sin in both Yorùbá and biblical cultures, as the two cultures regarded sin as a negative value.
