Aeromobilities provides a broad introduction to the study of air travel, airspaces and aviation from the perspective of the social sciences and the humanities. The book makes a strong case for a systematic, interdisciplinary study of some of the most powerful forces that have shaped our mobile globalization

Reflexivity is valuable in social research because it draws attention to the researcher as part of the world being studied and reminds us that the individuals involved in our research are subjects, not objects. By being reflexive we acknowledge that we cannot be separated from our biographies. This volume reviews key debates concerning reflexivity in theory, methods, and practice. It mounts a defence of reflexivity against new materialist and post-qualitative critiques and the pressures exerted on scholars from the neoliberal marketized university system which privileges fast academia at the expense of slow, reflective scholarship. While defending reflexivity, this book also those identifies issues which plague mainstream sociological operationalizations of a positivistic form of reflexivity. It argues for the extension of reflexivity into domains otherwise neglected in public accounts, and a shift from reflexivity as an individualized quality of the researcher (used to judge peers and navel-gaze) to a feminist, collaborative, reflexive sensibility which is mindful of the wider contexts shaping the construction of knowledge(s), experience(s), and of the role of research communities. Providing examples of reflexivity in action from academics at different stages of their careers, Reflexivity will appeal to students and researchers interested in fields such as Sociology, Qualitative Research Methods, Criminology, Ethnography, and Ethics of Research.

Identifies the significant role of conceptual research methods in
theory building and contrasts it with the theory‐testing research
currently prevalent in operations management. The research stages of
description, explanation and testing are used to distinguish between
theory building and theory testing. Short‐circuiting any one of these
stages results in dysfunctional research activities which produce war
stories, black boxes, or ivory‐tower prescriptions. Defines some terms
relevant to conceptual research methods and describes different
conceptual classification schemes. Finally, discusses the differences
between conceptual models, frameworks, and theories and illustrates each
method with examples from the literature.

While deconstruction has been put to use by some discourse theorists and normative political theorists, deconstruction is largely ignored by political scientists and often also by political theorists. This article examines not the larger question of deconstruction and politics, but the narrower question of the methodological issues surrounding the use of deconstruction as a method in political analysis. I lay out the basic features of deconstruction, first by considering its status as a method and second by examining the basic moves of a deconstructive reading. I provide an example of deconstruction from Derrida's work, namely the notion of iterability and his deconstruction of the event of 9/11. The aim is not simply to present an example of the use of deconstruction, but to examine an important methodological issue, specifically the relationship between, on one side, a theory or method and, on the other side, the particular applications of the theory or method. I argue that we should think of this relationship as one of mutual articulation, and that deconstruction is particularly useful for shedding light on this. Adapted from the source document.

The volume appraises, refines, and extends the institutionalist's evolutionary theory of political economy in six different areas of inquiry: (a) the provision of a fresh and comparative overview of institutional economics in general; (b) the presentation and refinement of pragmatic methods of inquiry; (c) the exploration of extensions and clarifications of instrumental value theory; (d) the distillation of an emergent institutionalist theory of labor markets; (e) the explication of a culture-based theory of economic development; and (f) the formulation of an analytical design that provides direction for institutional policy making. Institutional Economics: Theory, Method, Policy appears at an especially opportune time, when there is widespread and accumulating analytical dissatisfaction with received economic doctrine. The traditional neoclassical and Marxist views of how to explain, order, and operate a political economy are now in question throughout the world. Appeals are being made for more relevant and pragmatic, less doctrinaire and dogmatic, approaches to economic inquiry and problem solving. This volume provides fresh theoretical underpinnings for such problem solving efforts
