In: Psychology of emotions, motivations and actions
"The world of the 21st century develops between the paradox of the coexistence of millions of human beings deprived of speech, unable to express their ideas, their feelings or their desires, and millions of people who communicate permanently from their mobile devices. These new experiences, sensibilities, and emotional narratives have a particular flavor and color depending on the place in which they are produced. This book tries to answer the question about the proximity and distances between the technologies, communications, and narratives produced in different times/spaces on the planet. This book aims to focus on the close relationship between new technologies and the narrative of emotions, showing their implications for identity construction and political action. The book is divided into three discontinuous but interconnected parts. The first addresses, from various theoretical perspectives, the epochal transformations that are taking place at the crossroads between the new century, the Covid-19 pandemic, the 4.0 "revolution", and the creation, reproduction, and criticism of the elaboration of narratives. The second makes evident the impact of the features of this "new era" in and through communication products and technologies where television series, artificial intelligence, and new forms of power are superimposed. The third and final part focuses on pointing out how in the studies of images, the analysis of social policies, and creativity/expressiveness is a way to capture sensibilities, where the connections between emotions and narratives clearly appear in the scenario of 4.0 inquiry strategies"--
In: Routledge Research on Decoloniality and New Postcolonialisms
This book investigates the interconnections between populism and neoliberalism through the lens of postcolonialism. Its primary focus is to build a distinct understanding of the concept of populism as a political movement in the twenty-first century, interwoven with the lasting effects of colonialism. This volume particularly aims to fill the gap in the current literature by establishing a clear-cut connection between populism and postcolonialism. It sees populism as a contemporary and collective political response to the international crisis of the nation-state's limited capacity to deal with the burst of global capitalism into everyday life. Writings on Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Italy, France and Argentina offer regional perspectives which, in turn, provide the reader with a deepened global view of the main features of the multiple and complex relations between postcoloniality and populism. This book will be of interest to sociologists, anthropologists and political scientists as well as postgraduate students who are interested in the problem of populism in the days of postcolonialism.
This volume brings together well-versed authors from four continents to critically discuss the roots of neoliberalism and how academics use the word today. Neoliberalism has recently recycled and mutated towards new forms of radicalization where fear plays a leading role legitimating policies, which would otherwise be overtly neglected by citizens. The authors ignite a new discussion within social sciences, combining the advances of sociology, history, anthropology, communication and the theory of mobilities to understand the different faces and guises of neoliberalism. When the world seems poised on the brink of a never ending cycle of terrorism, the present paper polemically explores some of its historical roots. The first anarcho-terrorists in 19th century, fought to improve the working conditions of people. Some of them used violent tools, hosting civilians as targets. Others, convinced by the futility of their efforts to change the order, opted for organizing workers in factories. It is widely accepted that tourism came from the social, political, technological developments in the nineteenth century. We compare terrorist attacks with workers' strikes, because they come from the same developments. We explore the thesis that tourism is terrorism by other means.

In an ever-changing world which characterizes by the decline of hospitality, the anthropological insight is essentially vital to envisage the future of Western civilization. Amitai Touval adventures to reach a much deeper and better understanding of hospitality; en his recently-published book, [An anthropological study of Hospitality: the innkeeper and the guest], which is formed by two chapters, he offers a more than interesting argument. The first chapter, which entitles The Inkeeper, speaks us of his experiences in Eastern Germany. Rather, the second one goes through the evolution of hospitality in the digital media as well as virtual world. In so far as technology monopolizes hospitality, the guest-host relations are more impersonal. The author discusses critically the limitations of Airbnb.
