This paper investigates the evolution of foreign direct investment net inflows (FDI) around democratic transitions, in a panel of 115 developing countries from 1970 to 2014, using an event-study method. We find no effect of democratic transitions on FDI net inflows on average. We then distinguish the effect of democratic transitions per se and the effect of its consolidation. To do so, we specifically focus on consolidated democratic transitions, defined as transitions that did not reverse during five years at least. We find that consolidated democratic transitions do increase FDI net inflows. The bulk of the improvement appears ten years after the transition. Furthermore, the effect of consolidated democratic transitions on FDI is not limited to their impact on political risk. When controlling for the political risk index of the International Country Risk Guide, the intrinsic effect of consolidated democratic transitions appears immediately after the transition, suggesting that higher political risk accompanying the early years of democratic transitions offsets the positive intrinsic effect of democratictransition on FDI. The results are robust to controlling for GDP per capita and schooling, to alternative codings of the variables capturing the transition, disaggregating the political risk measure into several sub-components and the exclusion of outliers. Moreover local projections, propensity score matching, and IV estimates lend credence to a causal interpretation of our results. This paper analyzes the determinants of the location choices made by foreign investors at the district level in India to gauge the relative importance of economic geography factors, local business conditions, and the presence of previous foreign investors. We employ a discrete-choice model and Poisson regressions to control for the potential violation of the assumption of Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives. Our sample includes about 19,500 foreign investment projects approved in 447 districts from 1991-2005. We find that foreign investors strongly prefer locations where other foreign investors are. They are also attracted to industrially diverse locations and those with better infrastructure. We conclude that the concentration of FDI in a few locations could fuel regional divergence in post-reform India.

The explicit goal to significantly raise the percentage of wages in the national household income is integral part of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). The changes in the economic strategy are likely to affect the attractiveness of the country to foreign investors. In this paper, we raise the hypothesis that soaring wages negatively affect FDI inflows to China and alter the distribution of FDI over Chinese provinces. In addition, low-wage countries in the geographical surrounding might benefit from the changed direction of FDI inflows. By performing panel models with spatial effects for both Chinese provinces and developing ASEAN countries, regional dependencies are explicitly addressed. We provide strong and robust evidence that the wage increases change the distribution of FDI within China. In addition, we show that the changes in China's economic strategy improve the chances of its low-income neighbours to attract FDI.

The flow of globalization is increasing very rapidly and the development of the digital world. Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest e-commerce growth which continues to grow every year, in 2013 internet users were recorded at 72.8 million and in 2016 it became 102.8 million, in 2019 there were 130 million people. PT.PMA needs strict supervision of the financial system including how to collect taxes, considering that the capital invested is not small. A legal system capable of creating certainty, justice, and efficiency as an effort to develop market mechanisms in the era of economic globalization. Without special rules regarding the supervision of foreign investors, of course it will make it difficult for the government to collect taxes and move the financial management system. The aim is to see the responsibilities of foreign investors in managing the financial system in unicorn start-up companies established in Indonesia that are associated with taxation. The research method was carried out normative-empirical which was presented in a qualitative descriptive. Some company investors in start-up companies come as a whole from domestic investors and some even use foreign investors to intervene. Article 5 paragraph (2) of the Company Law states that foreign investment in Indonesia must be in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT) based on Indonesian law and the government in this case is not allowed to grant "special rights†to treatment of a country. Start-up companies, both foreign and domestic, must pay taxes in accordance with the provisions imposed in Indonesia. With the implementation of this tax, it has resulted in an increase in state profits. Apart from affirming the obligation of investors to pay taxes, the principles of sound corporate governance are embodied, respecting the cultural traditions of the community, and implementing corporate social responsibility

China tends to be a dominant figure in the literature on global land grabbing. It is either cast as a major land grabber in distant places such as Africa, or as a key player in crop booms elsewhere because it provides for massive market demand, such as for soya from South America. These are all important issues and are well covered in the literature. However, the crop booms inside China that involve transnational capital and investors – and have provoked conflict around land politics – have been overlooked. Spotlighting the issue of land grabbing inside China reminds us that capital accumulation is principally interested in geographies and settings where it can generate profit – regardless of nationalities, boundaries, structural or institutional conditions. This paper hopes to contribute towards a more refined picture of global land grabbing.
