The idea of "governance" expresses as much the requirement to take a fresh look at the force lines of authority & power as the need to make current the role of nongovernmental organizations in the mechanisms of political regulation with in international relations. However, it is argued that the issue of governance has been co-opted not only by international organizations seeking to legitimize their neoliberal predilections & projects, but also by writers whose theoretical approach has often lacked rigor & who have confused the expansion of the capitalist economy with the inexorable advance of history. Shortcomings should not discourage studies of governance that raise issue of institutions better suited for changes in the contemporary world. 14 References. Adapted from the source document.

"This study creates a typology of education systems. It uses empirical analysis to deter-mine six types of education governance on the basis of various factors such as the degree of state involvement or funding sources, and structural differences of average time spent on homework or the degree of support for low achievers. It reveals differences in output among these 'types' as measured by student performance, and relative equality of performance. The typology reflects similarities in governance of education among groups of countries, and indicates that common geography and history may be more of a linking factor than expected in a globalized world." Governance of public corporations in the United States has operated under the agency model with regulatory strengthening since the passage of Sarbanes‐Oxley legislation. With this foundation in place, boards are empowered to utilise their power and influence and can effectively monitor the actions of management, intervening where necessary. In effect, the rules of engagement embodied in the structure and the law guide interactions and empowerment. The governance model of the mutual funds industry, representing over 8 trillion dollars, is often viewed as a mirror of the corporate world, but upon closer analysis is found to have significant structural differences that dilute the authority of directors. The two models are compared and analysed with recommendations made to strengthen the oversight of mutual funds.
