Der Autor liefert einen Beitrag zur vielschichtigen Methodendebatte zwischen der qualitativen und der qualitativen Sozialforschung. Dabei bezieht er klar für die quantitative Variante und den für sie maßgeblichen kritischen Rationalismus Position und entkräftet Argumente, die von der qualitativen Seite vorgebracht werden. Er argumentiert, die Formulierung deduktiv gewonnener Gesetze und Erklärungen sei möglich. Man müsse dies also nicht unter Berücksichtigung der menschlichen Individualität aufgeben und sich auf das induktive Verstehen einzelner Phänomene beschränken. Die prominente Schlussfolgerung, qualitative und quantitative Ansätze könnten sich gegenseitig ergänzen, zieht der Autor jedoch nicht. Er begnügt sich mit einer teilweise recht feuilletonistischen Entkräftung der Argumente seiner "Gegner" und lässt weiterführende Folgerungen vermissen.

Many US veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq have multiple physical and psychiatric problems. A major focus of research has been on determining the effects of mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), but mTBI is rarely diagnosed in the absence of co-occurring conditions such as blast exposure, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, substance abuse, etc. These potentially interactive psychological and physical conditions produce complex patterns of cognitive, psychological, and physical symptoms that impede civilian reintegration and complicate efficient and effective treatment planning. The Translational Research Center for TBI and Stress Disorders (TRACTS) has developed a multidisciplinary approach to the assessment of deployment trauma and its consequences in veterans of these wars. The prospective TRACTS longitudinal cohort study conducts state-of-the-art assessments in the domains of biomedical function, lifetime head trauma, psychological function encompassing deployment experience and lifetime exposure to traumatic events, neuropsychological function, and structural and functional neuroimaging. The TRACTS longitudinal cohort study is the first of its kind to comprehensively evaluate lifetime incidence of TBI and PTSD in these veterans, in addition to those incurred during military deployment. The protocol has begun to reveal information that will help improve understanding of the complex pathophysiology associated with co-occurring mTBI and related stress disorders.

ilustraciones, gráficas, tablas ; Esta tesis de maestría presenta la investigación realizada para la obtención de la Metodología para la Evaluación de Software para la e-Participación – MESeP, diseñada para ser aplicable a cualquier herramienta de software para la e-Participación, siempre y cuando se tenga acceso a la información. Este trabajo surge como respuesta a varias inquietudes, tales como: la falta de rigurosidad en la definición de las etapas de evaluación para las herramientas software para e-participación, la carencia de una identificación precisa de las funcionalidades de los sistemas de información para la participación ciudadana y, la ausencia de metodologías de evaluación de herramientas de software para la participación electrónica, lo que llevó a dos preguntas orientadoras que a su vez se tradujeron en dos revisiones sistemáticas de literatura -RSL. En la primera RSL se identificaron características y factores asociados a las herramientas de software para la e-Participación, y en la segunda, a la identificación de variables e indicadores. A partir de lo anterior, se realizó la asociación de los factores con las variables identificadas y luego de las variables con los indicadores. Se realizó la primera versión de la metodología la cual fue sometida a un juicio de expertos. Luego del juicio de expertos se realizó un proceso de refinamiento, lo que dio como resultado la versión final de la MESeP que cuenta con cuatro fases y ocho actividades, de igual forma se presentan los nueve factores, 23 variables y 64 indicadores identificados. This research emerges as a response to some lacks identified. On the one hand, there is a lack of rigorousness in the definition of evaluation stages for e-participation software tools. Another is a lack of precise identification of information systems functionalities for citizen participation. On the other hand, there are no methodologies for evaluating e-participation software tools, leading to two guiding questions translated into two systematic literature reviews SLR. The first SLR identified characteristics and factors associated with e-Participation software tools. The second one identified variables and indicators. Then, the factors were associated with the determined variables and the indicators. An expert judgment analyzed the first version of the methodology. Der Text beschäftigt sich mit dem Beitrag, den qualitative Softwareprogramme zur Re-Analyse qualitativer Daten leisten können. Hierzu werden zum einen einige Vorteile der Sekundäranalyse auch für qualitative Daten erläutert, und zum anderen werden methodenkritische Einwände gegen Re-Analysen im Feld qualitativer Sozialforschung diskutiert. Die Hauptaufmerksamkeit gilt Fragen der Forschungspraxis. Zugleich werden aber auch mögliche Gründe für die bisher ungenügende Nutzung der Potentiale von PC-gestützten Sekundäranalysen aufgezeigt. Hier scheint den sozialen Kontexten von Forschung eine besondere Bedeutung zuzukommen.
