AbstractPeriods of recession and economic crisis pose great challenges to companies committed to quality of work and by extension to their human resources (HR) departments. The need for adjustments can be a great opportunity for the implementation of socially responsible labour practices for the wellbeing of employees and in line with sustainable development and sustainable development goals. This study analyses the effects of the interaction between different socially responsible human resource management labour practices on three variables of employee wellbeing: job satisfaction, job stress and trust in management. Prior to the application of various statistical models, a correlation analysis of labour practices is carried out. Two types of statistical models are used depending on the type of variable to be explained. The ordinal logit has been applied to variables 'trust in management' and 'level of job stress,' which are not continuous. And the linear regression model for the variable 'job satisfaction,' which is continuous. Based on the analysis of data from 1346 workers from the 2010 Quality of Life at Work Survey in Catalonia, the results show the effectiveness of the combination of applied practices related to personal quality of life aspects, such as work‐life balance, non‐discrimination or environmental workplace conditions, as a determining factor for generally increasing the wellbeing of employees in times of crisis. However, practices aimed at achieving greater employee involvement, are more effective when applied individually. The importance of job stability to increase employee wellbeing in times of crisis is to be highlighted.

Using the meta-empirical foundations of the transcendental approach to the study of perception, the author organizes and generalizes the theoretical and empirical data of modern foreign and domestic perceptual studies (about 1,000 sources) in the following areas: methodological and methodical aspects of the modern perceptual psychology; correlation of types of scientific rationality in the modern perceptual psychology; the process of perception as a special function of the psyche, etc. The paper identifies the core methodological and methodical trends in the development of the modern perceptual psychology: expanded requirements for the lack of bias, accuracy and reliability of experimental studies; ontologization of the research subject; complexity and crosscutting features of the research system; the active use of modern technological opportunities, including the renovation of classical research methods. The author substantiates the methodological necessity of a brand new resource for studying perception from the proper positions of meta-empirical foundations — a transcendental approach, in which the directly sensory process of perception is positioned as a process of form generation helping to distinguish the generative quality of this process and capture its diffe­rence from the structural qualities of other information processes. Against the modern trends in the positioning of perception as an auxiliary stage of latent representation and categorization of objects of the external world, the author shows the relevance and identifies the means of distinguishing perception as a special function of the psyche. The paper substantiates the transcendental type of scientific rationality, alternative to the epistemological paradigm of cognition.

Open government initiatives in the U.S. government focus on three main aspects: transparency, participation, and collaboration. Especially the collaboration mandate is relatively unexplored in the literature. In practice, government organizations recognize the need to include external problem solvers into their internal innovation creation processes. This is partly derived from a sense of urgency to improve the efficiency and quality of government service delivery. Another formal driver is the America Competes Act that instructs agencies to search for opportunities to meaningfully promote excellence in technology, education, and science. Government agencies are responding to these requirements by using open innovation (OI) approaches to invite citizens to crowdsource and peer produce solutions to public management problems. These distributed innovation processes occur at all levels of the U.S. government and it is important to understand what design elements are used to create innovative public management ideas. This article systematically reviews existing government crowdsourcing and peer production initiatives and shows that after agencies have defined their public management problem, they go through four different phases of the OI process: (1) idea generation through crowdsourcing, (2) incubation of submitted ideas with peer voting and collaborative improvements of favorite solutions, (3) validation with a proof of concept of implementation possibilities, and (4) reveal of the selected solution and the (internal) implementation of the winning idea. Participation and engagement are incentivized both with monetary and nonmonetary rewards, which lead to tangible solutions as well as intangible innovation outcomes, such as increased public awareness.

Examines local political initiatives seeking to influence economic and social development in seven sharply contrasting localities, ranging from the outer council estates of Merseyside to the boom towns of Cheltenham and Swindon.

Objective: To identify available evidence in the literature on the epidemiological aspects, the approach to the smoker, and therapeutic of nicotine addiction in the population. Method: This is an integrative review carried out in the Health Virtual Library using the following combinations of keywords: "prevalence and smoking", "dependence and nicotine", "depression and smoking", and "smoking cessation". Results: The results from the sixteen selected articles pointed out: incomplete primary education, low income, early teenage smoking, and higher prevalence and recurrence among women than men. Conclusion: Smoking is more prevalent in women, and women have a higher incidence of relapse after treatment than men. The most widely used therapy was the use of drugs in conjunction with a psychosocial approach and/or cognitive behavioral method. It is necessary to train health professionals to understand the smoking habit as a public health problem to refer individuals to treatment.

This book addresses the gaps in undergraduate teaching of partial equilibrium analysis, providing a general equilibrium viewpoint to illustrate the assumptions underlying partial equilibrium welfare analysis. It remains unexplained, at least at the level of general economics teaching, in what sense partial equilibrium analysis is indeed a part of general equilibrium analysis. Partial equilibrium welfare analysis isolates a market for a single commodity from the rest of the economy, presuming that other things remain equal, and measures gains and losses by means of consumer surplus. This is a money metric that is supposed to be summable across individuals, recommending policy that maximizes the social surplus. But what justifies such apparently uni-dimensional practise? Within a general equilibrium framework, the assumption of no income effect is presented as the key condition, and substantive general equilibrium situations in which the condition emerges are presented. The analysis is extended to the case of uncertainty, in which the practice adopts aggregate expected consumer surplus, and scrutinizes when such practice is justified. Finally, the book illustrates partial equilibrium as an institutional artifact, meaning that institutional constraint induces individuals to behave as if they are in partial equilibrium. This volume forms an important contribution to the literature by researching why this disparity persists and the implications for economics education.

His chapter explores how the perception of war in the public sphere is influenced by the media and, more precisely, how the news media define and perform their social function in relation to war. It points to the fact that it is not only the way in which journalists deliver news about war to the public that affects how people think about war. Information and its impact on the public are also influenced, to a varying extent, by the medium that conveys the message. Good for Me and Good For My Region. The Ambivalences of Responsible Everyday Food Literacy Between Self-Referentiality and Locavoracity. This paper is based on two interdisciplinary empirical surveys at the University of Luxembourg (quantitative and qualitative), carried out in the transnational context of Luxembourg and the surrounding Greater Region, allowing for comparative results of consumption dynamics between regions in Luxembourg, Germany, France and Belgium. It aims to analyse everyday appropriations of 'responsible' eating habits – seen as a set of plural ways of how people put into practice plural ideas of sustainability. To find out by which motivations the motor for 'responsible' consumption is driven, the notion of sustainability is characterised by quantitative indicators of possible sustainability in the food domain, relating to consumed foods or to individual criteria of food selection. Subsequently, qualitative interviews provide insights into the meanings of, and values behind, those indicators, uncovering everyday priorities, appropriations and strategies of consumption, as well as its justifications in a perspective of spatial identification. By contrasting arguments about food consumption ideals and practices, the results show a marked dialectic between self-referentiality and a general interest in food's provenance, understood as regionally produced. This 'locavorous' form of regionality favours a (new) consciousness of geolocalized context of food production, which may, in turn, have an impact on the overall food literacy, increasingly seen as a political field of citizen action for lowering carbon transport emissions, fostering community identifications and anchoring local socio-economic valorizations. This shows which aspects of the polysemic idea of sustainability are relevant to consumers' preoccupations, and to what extent consumers are reflexive in their 'responsible' food choices.

The theoretical approaches to the nature of the basic categories are analyzed. Features of realization of the social functions of the state are associated with large-scale investment, which give the investor no clear commercial return, but create the conditions for rapid economic growth. Social investment, like wealth, contribute to the formation of the national product, since the goal of any economy is the satisfaction of human needs through the material, spiritual or other benefits. Investment in human capital is a conscious investment in industries and sectors that improve the quality parameters of a person, primarily their workforce (level of education, development of intelligence, creativity, physical and mental health, systems of motivation, values, etc.). The idea of human capital and investment in human capital as a factor of socio-economic development began to attract attention with Russia''s transition to a market economy. Human capital is seen as a long-term economic resource. The rating of the competitiveness of human capital in different countries is given. The conclusion about the need for a systemic investment approach that does not need to separate policies and processes of development of investment in education, science and innovation system and investment in education, culture, health, personal security and infrastructure. The application of the concepts of "human capital", "social capital", "intellectual capital" allows understanding the role of social institutions, not only finding out social attitudes, but also conducting economic analysis of the impact of social factor on the market economy. A generally accepted indicator of the level of human capital development is the index of human capital development. It covers 122 countries in the world economy. It uses a combination of data from publicly available sources and information from international organizations and experts in the field of development. The authors consider the practical aspects of public social investment, the economic meaning of state regulation of social investment and performing the state''s core functions. The issues of the importance of social programs of business are raised. A key feature is social investment as activities of investor relations subjects aimed at obtaining certain beneficial effects for society. Analysis of the processes of scientific and technological development shows that human capital, cycles of growth and development are the main factors generating waves of innovation development and the cyclical development of the world economy and society. Moreover, the level and quality of national human capital determines the upper limit in the development of science and economy. Without raising the quality of national human capital to the level required by the knowledge economy, quality and ethics in the workplace, shaping an innovative economy and especially the knowledge economy is impossible. Social innovation is a new term that is closely related to concepts such as public-private partnerships, corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneur-ship and philanthropy. The article deals with problems of social innovations.
