Based on the structured analysis of selected North American novels, this work examines global cities as a literary phenomenon (»DiverCity«). By analyzing Dionne Brand's Toronto, »What We All Long For« (2005), Chang-rae Lee's New York, »Native Speaker« (1995), and Karen Tei Yamashita's Los Angeles, »Tropic of Orange« (1997), Melanie U. Pooch provides the connecting link for exploring the triad of globalization and its effects, global cities as cultural nodal points, and cultural diversity in a globalizing age as a literary phenomenon. Thus, she contributes to a global, interdisciplinary, and multi-perspectival understanding of literature, culture, and society.

This thesis critiques liberal peacebuilding in Africa, with a particular focus on Sierra Leone. In particular, it examines the interface between the liberal peace and the "local", the forms of agency that various local actors are expressing in response to the liberal peace and the hybrid forms of peace that are emerging in Sierra Leone. The thesis is built from an emerging critical literature that has argued for the need to shift from merely criticising liberal peacebuilding to examining local and contextual responses to it. Such contextualisation is crucial mainly because it helps us to develop a better understanding of the complex dynamics on the ground. The aim of this thesis is not to provide a new theory but to attempt to use the emerging insights from the critical scholarship through adopting the concept of hybridity in order to gain an understanding of the forms of peace that are emerging in post-conflict zones in Africa. This has not been comprehensively addressed in the context of post-conflict societies in Africa. Yet, much contemporary peace support operations are taking place in these societies that are characterised by multiple sources of legitimacy, authority and sovereignty. The thesis shows that in Sierra Leone local actors – from state elites to chiefs to civil society to ordinary people on the "margins of the state" – are not passive recipients of the liberal peace. It sheds new light on how hybridity can be created "from below" as citizens do not engage in outright resistance, but express various forms of agency including partial acceptance and internalisation of some elements of the liberal peace that they find useful to them; and use them to make demands for reforms against state elites who they do not trust and often criticise for their pre-occupation with political survival and consolidation of power. Further, it notes that in Sierra Leone a "post-liberal peace" that is locally-oriented might emerge on the "margins of the state" where culture, custom and tradition are predominant, and where neo-traditional civil society organisations act as vehicles for both the liberal peace and customary peacebuilding while allowing locals to lead the peacebuilding process. In Sierra Leone, there are also peace processes that are based on custom that are operating in parallel to the liberal peace, particularly in remote parts of the country.

Pešek s'intéresse aux caractéristiques culturelles de l'après 1948 en République tchèque : pour se faire il décrit tout d'abord la culture des classes moyennes de la Première République, dans un contexte européen très ouvert, fondé sur l'apport juif et allemand. La première rupture a lieu après la conférence de Munich, et la Seconde République amène un antisémitisme exacerbé, une orientation radicalement antimoderniste, et une attirance vers l'autoritarisme. Ces tendances s'accentuent avec le régime nazi et produisent paradoxalement un renforcement des stéréotypes défensifs de la nation hérité du Réveil national, des mythes du XIXe siècle. Il conclut de son analyse que la répression, les réformes culturelles communistes et les innovations soviétophiles approfondissaient en fait des tendances plus anciennes, manifestes dès la fin des années 1930. Il est possible, selon l'auteur, d'établir une certaine continuité entre la Seconde République, le Protectorat et la démocratie populaire de l'après-guerre en ce qui concerne leurs aspects antidémocratiques, et plus largement leur lutte contre les classes moyennes. De même que le choc causé par "l'abandon" de la Tchécoslovaquie par les Occidentaux avait servi à imposer ces tendances, l'ennemi héréditaire allemand et ses nouveaux alliés furent désignés comme le danger qui menaçait désormais la "culture nationale". partir de 1956, et surtout dans les années 60, le domaine culturel parvint à prendre son indépendance. Une avant-garde autonome et contestatrice qui remettait le régime en question s'imposa. Parfois même, une vie culturelle alternative vit le jour. Cette évolution était bien moins un retour à "l'avant-février" que le mérite d'une génération qui parvenait à surmonter le quart de siècle qui l'avait précédée.

The article deals with the modern scientific approaches of understanding of the scope of such concepts as "struggle against criminality policy", "criminal policy", "criminal law policy". Ukrainian and foreign scientists' positions of the concepts and correlation between these types of the interior policy of a state have been considered. The concept of the policy of the struggle against criminality as the general line of the interior policy of Ukraine has been formulated. The author underlined, that the struggle against criminality policy determines the main lines, goals and the methods of the influence on crime by forming the criminal law, criminal procedure and penal legislation, regulating the practice of their application, developing and realizing the measures of crime prevention. However, the criminal law policy has been understood by the author as the core element of the state policy in the sphere of the struggle against criminality, which devices strategy and tactics of the criminal law influence on criminality and formulates its tasks, principles, lines and goals. The criminal law policy determines the methods of the achievement of the above-mentioned aspects that are depicting in the criminal legislation norms, practice of their application, their official interpretation in the acts of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, in the decisions of the Plenum of the High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases on problems of the application of the Criminal Code's norms by Ukrainian courts, in the judgments of the Supreme Court of Ukraine on the questions of the irregular application of the norms of substantive law.On the basis of the analysis of the theoretical notions of "science", "branch of science", "the legal science" the author studied the place of the struggle against criminality policy and the criminal law policy in the system of sciences and made the next conclusions:1. The struggle against criminality policy is a multisectoral (legal and political) science that studies state requirements in the sphere of the struggle against criminality and develops proposals of formation of the legislative mechanisms of its realization.2. The criminal law policy is a branch of the criminal law science, which studies the state requirements in the sphere of the most important public relations, benefits and interests of the individual by the way of the criminal law influence with the methods of criminalization and decriminalization (penalization and depenalization) etc.3. Today the basic approaches of the understanding of the score of the struggle against criminality policy have been developed in Ukraine. The conditions for development of its doctrine and the legislative implementation of the concept have been created.4. The development of the doctrine of the theory of the criminal law policy provides an opportunity to adopt on the legislative level the concept of the criminal law policy of Ukraine on the average perspective (e. g. for 10 years). ; Статья посвящена анализу подходов к пониманию в современной науке содержания понятий «политика в сфере борьбы с преступностью», «уголовная политика», «уголовно-правовая политика». Рассматриваются подходы к пониманию содержания и взаимосвязи этих видов внутренней политики государства в трудах отечественных и зарубежных учёных-правоведов. Формулируется понятие политики в сфере борьбы с преступностью как генеральной линии внутренней политики Украинского государства, определяющей основные направления, цели, способы влияния на преступность путём формирования уголовного, уголовного процессуального и уголовно-исполнительного законодательства, регулирования практики их применения, а также разработки и реализации мер, направленных на предупреждение преступлений. При этом уголовно-правовая политика понимается как системообразующий элемент политики государства в сфере борьбы с преступностью, разрабатывающий стратегию и тактику, формулирующий основные задачи, принципы, направления и цели уголовно-правового воздействия на преступность, определение способов их достижения, что выражается в нормах законодательства об уголовной ответственности, практике их применения, актах официального толкования Конституционным Судом Украины уголовно-правовых норм, постановлениях Пленума Высшего специализированного суда Украины по рассмотрению гражданских и уголовных дел по вопросам применения специализированными судами законодательства об уголовной ответственности, судебных решениях Верховного Суда Украины по вопросам неодинакового применения норм материального права.На основании анализа теоретических понятий «наука», «отрасль науки», «правовая наука» анализируется место политики в сфере борьбы с преступностью и уголовно-правовой политики в системе наук, делаются следующие выводы:Политика в сферы борьбы с преступностью представляет собой межотраслевую (юридико-политическую) науку, изучающую потребности государства в сфере борьбы с преступностью, разрабатывающую предложения для формирования законодательных механизмов удовлетворения этих потребностей.Уголовно-правовая политика является отраслевой наукой уголовно-правового цикла, изучающая потребности государства в сфере охраны важнейших общественных отношений, благ и интересов личности способами уголовно-правового воздействия при помощи присущих ей методов криминализации и декриминализации, пенализации и депенализации, разрабатывающая предложения по законодательному обеспечению удовлетворения этих потребностей.На сегодняшний день в Украине разработаны основные подходы к пониманию содержания науки политики в сфере борьбы с преступностью, созданы условия для разработки её доктрины и законодательной концепции реализации. Теория уголовно-правовой политики в Украине получили достаточную разработку, позволившую сформировать её доктрину. Осуществляется разработка её теоретических основ по отдельным направлениям, анализ ряда частных проблем. Это открывает возможности для разработки и принятия на законодательном уровне концепции уголовно-правовой политики Украины на среднечасовую (10-летнюю) перспективу. ; Стаття присвячена аналізу підходів до розуміння в сучасній науці змісту понять «політика в сфері боротьби зі злочинністю», «кримінальна політика», «кримінально-правова політика». При цьому кримінально-правова політика розуміється як системоутворюючий елемент політики держави в сфері боротьби зі злочинністю, що розробляє стратегію і тактику, формулює основні завдання, принципи, напрями та цілі кримінально-правового впливу на злочинність, визначення способів їх досягнення, що виражається в нормах законодавства про кримінальної відповідальності, практиці їх застосування, актах офіційного тлумачення Конституційним Судом України кримінально-правових норм, постановах Пленуму Вищого спеціалізованого суду України з розгляду цивільних і кримінальних справ з питань застосування спеціалізованими судами законодавства про кримінальну відповідальність, судових рішеннях Верховного суду України з питань неоднакового застосування норм матеріального права.На підставі аналізу теоретичних понять «наука», «галузь науки», «правова наука» аналізується місце політики в сфері боротьби зі злочинністю та кримінально-правової політики в системі наук, робляться такі висновки:1. Політика в сфери боротьби зі злочинністю є міжгалузеву (юридико-політичну) науку, що вивчає потреби держави в сфері боротьби зі злочинністю, розробляє пропозиції для формування законодавчих механізмів задоволення цих потреб.2. Кримінально-правова політика є галузевою наукою кримінально-правового циклу, що вивчає потреби держави в сфері охорони найважливіших суспільних відносин, благ та інтересів особистості способами кримінально-правового впливу за допомогою властивих їй методів криміналізації та декриміналізації, пеналізації та депеналізацію, яка розробить пропозиції щодо законодавчого забезпечення задоволення цих потреб.3. На сьогоднішній день в Україні розроблено основні підходи до розуміння змісту науки політики в сфері боротьби зі злочинністю, створені умови для розробки її доктрини та законодавчої концепції реалізації.4. Теорія кримінально-правової політики в Україні отримали достатню розробку, яка дозволила сформувати її доктрину. Здійснюється розробка її теоретичних основ за окремими напрямами, аналіз ряду приватних проблем. Це відкриває можливості для розробки і прийняття на законодавчому рівні концепції кримінально-правової політики України на середньогодинну (10-річну) перспективу.

This book examines the ways in which cultural and creative industries can drive entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability and overall regional development. It will address such issues as (1) the technical (tangible) components of creative and cultural industries in relation to innovation; (2) the intangible components of creative and cultural industries in relation to services provided; (3) the relationship between tangible and intangible components and economic and social innovation; and (4) the ways in which creative and cultural industries effect and influence regional sustainability and development. Cultural and creative industries and the creative economy as a whole have been increasingly prevalent in research literature because of their role in driving economic and social development. O artigo analisa as formulações de Herbert Marcuse acerca das mobilizações e dos movimentos sociais nos anos 1960. Após uma breve apresentação de sua biografia político-intelectual, que cruza aspectos institucionais e militantes naqueles anos, nos concentramos em três possíveis entradas à sua obra, enfatizando elementos contidos em três de seus escritos mais relevantes no período: O homem unidimensional, Um ensaio sobre a libertação e Contra-revolução e revolta. Do primeiro escrito, destacaremos o diagnóstico pessimista de Marcuse sobre a supremacia da "racionalidade tecnológica" como "ideologia" hegemônica do capitalismo avançado; do segundo, as novas forças subjetivas de "oposição" surgidas a partir da mudança nos ritmos e formas das mobilizações sociais internacionais nos anos 1960 e, por fim, no terceiro, uma análise das forças de reação que se impuseram a estes movimentos.Palavras-Chave: Marcuse; capitalismo avançado; nova esquerda; juventude. Abstract – The article analyzes Herbert Marcuse's formulations on mobilizations and social movements in the 1960s. After a brief presentation of his political-intellectual biography, relating it to institutional and militant aspects in those years, we focus on three possible entries to his work, emphasizing elements contained in three of his most relevant writings in the period: The One-Dimensional Man, An Essay on Liberation, and Counter-Revolution and Rebellion. From the first writing, we will highlight Marcuse's pessimistic diagnosis of the supremacy of "technological rationality" as the hegemonic "ideology" of advanced capitalism; of the second, the new subjective forces of "opposition" arising from the change in the rhythms and forms of international social mobilizations in the 1960s; and finally, in the third, an analysis of the forces of reaction that have been imposed on these movements.Keywords: Herbert Marcuse; advanced capitalism; new left; youth.

Various segments and aspects of these novelsdemonstrate a strong connection and relation with popularculture, and they are identified and discussed in this article.However, before the mentioned identification and discussion,some facts are stated regarding the phenomena of Scandinaviancrime fiction, as a regionally determined literary genre whichemerged to the world literature scene in full power at the end ofthe 20th and the first decades of the 21st century, and its relation topopular culture.

AbstractIn this articleIdevelop tools for analyzing the identities that emerge in qualitative material.Iapproach identities as historically, socially and culturally produced subject positions, as processes that are in a constant state of becoming and that receive their temporary stability and meaning in concrete contexts and circumstances.Isuggest that the identities and subject positions that materialize in qualitative material can be analyzed from four different perspectives. They can be approached by focusing on (1)classificationsthat define the boundary lines between 'us' and 'them', as (2)participant rolesthat refer to the temporal aspect of subject positions and outline their meaning for action, as (3)structures of viewpointandfocalizationthat frame meaning and order to opinions and experiences of the world, and as (4)interactive positionsthat articulate the roles and identities taken by the participants of communication.
