The First World War and the question of its impact on the negotiation of Jewish difference have for a long time been neglected and under-researched topics in the field of modern history. In this context, analyses of Jewish war experiences were either non-existent or stood in the shadow of the history of the Holocaust. This trend has been somewhat countered over the last years. But despite the fact that the dilemma between transnational Jewish solidarity and national (civic) loyalties has gained more attention among scholars working in the field of Jewish as well as general history, these studies remain within a national framework. Sarah Panter seeks to overcome these limitations and break new ground by writing the first systematic comparative and transnational history of war-time debates concerning the meanings and implications of Jewishness in German- and English-speaking countries.

Since its inception in December 2000, the Herzliya Conference has become an important annual event bringing together the country's top leaders in government, the military, business, the media, and academia as well as Jewish invitees from abroad, particularly the United States, to reflect on Israel's long-term security. In his address to the conference, the prime minister, while expressing support for the U.S. road map, announced Israeli's intention to initiate a ""unilateral security step of disengagement from the Palestinians"" if they fail to fulfill their security obligations. The Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide have been considered comparable events ever since the term "genocide," coined by Raphael Lemkin in 1944, was used at Nuremberg. The comparison leads to the recognition of differences between the two genocides, differences often used by revisionist historians to deny the very substance of genocide to the Armenian case. I want to argue that these differences are real, but that they are structural, not substantive, and that the impact of structural difference may be understood through an examination of the relationship among modern historiography, genocide, and diasporization. Put simply, the Holocaust constituted a symbolic end to the Jewish diaspora, whereas the Genocide is the symbolic origin of the Armenian diaspora. In actuality, of course, an enormous and powerful Jewish diaspora remains after the Holocaust, and Armenia had a significant diaspora for centuries before the Genocide. But whereas the Holocaust resulted in the creation of a concentrated, modern center for Jewish historical discourse, the Armenian Genocide erased that center, creating a "nation" that has had to exist in exile and memory—in diaspora

Anna Mitgutsch and Vladimir Vertlib trace the trajectories of children of immigration and transmigration. In Familienfest and Letzter Wunsch , both published in 2003, Mitgutsch and Vertlib seem eager to meet the challenges of a changing world by reflecting on the category of Jewishness in an emerging transnational world spanning Europe, Israel, and the United States. Both writers privilege and problematize the performative aspects of Jewish ritual and its constitutive role with regard to Jewish identity, especially within the diaspora. In this paper I investigate the new figurations of transnational community in Mitgutsch's and Vertlib's novels.

This study examines psychological correlates of Jewish-Israeli support for post-conflict political reconciliation with Jordan. An analysis of data from a public opinion survey conducted with a representative sample of Israeli-Jews (n=1000) indicated that appraisal of outgroup collective threat, as well as hatred and (lack of) sympathy towards Jordanians, predicted Jewish-Israeli decreased support for peaceful reconciliation with Jordan. Our findings point to the crucial role of threat perceptions in hindering post-conflict reconciliation and to the importance of sympathy towards the other side in increasing support for such reconciliation.
