In a response to Raskins reflection on The Weather Underground (2006), the author challenges Raskins singular focus on the group to argue for a different perspective of the Underground. A tracing of the early goals, & the relationship to the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), contextualizes the attempt to build a revolutionary anti-imperialist movement focusing on white peoples solidarity. Communiques by the organization are characterized as sophisticated research & deeply rational, rather than the celebration of violence portrayed by Raskin. A brief historical analysis refutes Raskins criticisms of the destruction of the SDS, & the assertion that the members eventually bought into the system they sought to destroy. The author concludes that the lack of legal repercussions experienced by the fugitives is testimony to the significance of white privilege that is relevant in the US today.
