Computing Academics into New Age Programs and Fields: Big Data Analytics & Data Sciences in Indian Academics—An Academic Investigation of Private Universities
In: IRA-international journal of management & social sciences, Volume 10, Issue 3, p. 107
ISSN: 2455-2267

India is moving towards a developed country and thus knowledge cultivation is very much required and in this context introducing new age programs and degrees are essential. This is required for the creation of next generation skills and knowledge as per industrial and organizational demands including Government etc. Data Science is about managing the large amount and complex data, moreover, it is also known as Big Data Technologies. Due to the wider requirement in different universities and organizations, many international universities have started academic programs on Data Sciences and Big Data. However, a large number of institutes are located in India but only a few offer programs on Data Science and Allied Technologies. Importantly most these are listed in Engineering Colleges and few Private Universities. Universities in this regard adopted both full-fledged degrees and specialization methods to offer the Data Sciences and Allied Technologies. This paper is theoretical and contextual in nature, but also purely interdisciplinary in nature combines with education, information technology, and managerial science to learn about the status and future of qualified and skilled manpower. However, the paper is specially focused on private universities only with a brief overview of the technologies in international universities.

Data Technology in Materials Modelling
In: SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology
This open access book discusses advances in semantic interoperability for materials modelling, aiming at integrating data obtained from different methods and sources into common frameworks, and facilitating the development of platforms where simulation services in computational molecular engineering can be provided as well as coupled and linked to each other in a standardized and reliable way. The Virtual Materials Marketplace (VIMMP), which is open to all service providers and clients, provides a framework for offering and accessing such services, assisting the uptake of novel modelling and simulation approaches by SMEs, consultants, and industrial R&D end users. Semantic assets presented include the EngMeta metadata schema for research data infrastructures in simulation-based engineering and the collection of ontologies from VIMMP, including the ontology for simulation, modelling, and optimization (OSMO) and the VIMMP software ontology (VISO).

100 years of data sovereignty: Cooperative data governance and innovation in US dairy
In: Applied economic perspectives and policy, Volume 45, Issue 3, p. 1551-1576
ISSN: 2040-5804
AbstractWe discuss a little‐known but highly successful approach to innovation and data governance observed in the U.S. dairy sector. The National Cooperative Dairy Herd Improvement Program (NCDHIP) is a century‐old institution that coordinates farm data collection to support research on dairy cattle breeding and genetic selection. After discussing the program's history, we discuss how its evolution can inform data governance in agriculture today. We identify three key attributes that make the NCDHIP a successful model in agriculture: overcoming free‐riding with member benefits to data providers, ensuring data interoperability with uniform data standards, and controlling data access and use with cooperative governance.

Knowledge management capability and supply chain management practices in the Saudi food industry
In: Business process management journal, Volume 24, Issue 2, p. 459-477
ISSN: 1758-4116
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of knowledge management capabilities (KMCs) on supply chain management practices (SCMP) and organizational performance (OP) in firms, in addition to examining the effect of supply chain management on OP.Design/methodology/approachTo demonstrate the effect of KMCs on SCMP, and OP, different techniques such as factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling were used to verify the validity of the proposed conceptual model and to test the suggested hypotheses, using data collected from 165 companies in the Saudi food industry (representing a response rate of 74.9 percent).FindingsAccording to the study's findings, SCMP are positively affected by KMCs. Moreover, OP is directly affected by KMCs and SCMP.Research limitations/implicationsDue to the specific nature of the sample, the findings of the current research are applicable only to the food industry.Originality/valueThe current research introduced a conceptual model, which has been tested and verified in the Saudi food industry. The findings recommend that both KMCs as well as SCMP will contribute to improving the OP. In addition, KMCs will improve the SCMP.
