Today even the war and conflict coverage of 24-hour news networks is subject to heavy promotion and part of the networks' advertising and branding campaigns. These commercial aspects of news production, however, seem to oppose concepts of journalistic quality. This study analyses claims of journalistic quality and 'high concept' in conflict coverage promotion spots and how they are linked to better understand the ideological complexes of CNN International and Al Jazeera English. The findings show an equal number of quality and 'high concept' claims with differences in the nature of the claims

We introduce status conflicts—defined as disputes over people's relative status (i.e., respect) positions in their group's social hierarchy—as a key group process that affects task group performance. Using mixed research methods, we qualitatively identify the characteristics of status conflicts, validate a four-item survey scale that distinctly measures status conflict, and investigate the relationship between status conflict and group performance. We determine that status conflict exerts a significant negative main effect, moderates the effects of task conflict on group performance, and hurts performance by undermining information sharing more than other types of conflict do.
There has been a high level of conflict in American politics in recent years. Massive disagreements over government policies, including health care, seem to have pitted one group of Americans against another. In addition, politicians in different parties now seem to dislike each other personally. This book explores how and why this style of politics developed. It argues that fundamental disagreements between Americans have been at the heart of its politics since the eighteenth century. In many ways American democracy is very different from democracy in other countries; these distinctive features have contributed to periods of bitterly contested politics throughout its history.

AbstractIt is widely accepted that fragmentation influences conflict processes in a profound way. Multi-party conflicts with several fronts are notoriously hard to resolve. However, there is no easily computable measure to approximate conflict fragmentation. In this article, we introduce the conflict fragmentation index (CFI), which is computed by adapting the Herfindahl–Hirschman index. The CFI considers the relative prominence of each dyadic-level conflict-fronts nested in the entire civil war. The relative prominence is approximated by using available information on conflict casualties. The CFI is time-variant and highly sensitive to battlefield dynamics. The flexibility of CFI can bring several advantages. Most notably, it is possible to calculate monthly or even daily measures of conflict fragmentation by taking state-based (government vs. NSA) as well as non-state based (NSA vs. NSA) conflicts into account. Overall, the CFI provides a theoretically-informed and easy to compute measure to approximate conflict fragmentation.

The conflict has a critical effect on the competence, confidence, and morale of healthcare professionals. Consequently, it affects patient care too. To prevent or limit the conflict, emphasis must be focused on proper and impartial implementation of a professional code of conduct, ground rules and discipline. The sources of conflict could real or imagined differences in values, dissimilar goals among individuals, improper communication and personalization of generic or organizational issue. Generally, there are four types of conflicts, intrapersonal, interpersonal, intragroup and intergroup.The conflict usually goes through four phases, frustration of one or more parties involved in conflict, conceptualization or rationalization of cause, expression of behaviors and behaviors resulting in negative outcome. Thomas and Kilmann postulated a matrix explaining five distinct responses or styles to conflict resolution or management varying along the axis of assertiveness and cooperativeness. These five styles are avoiding, accommodating, compromising, competing and collaborating. The issue in conflict is not its existence, rather its management.
