Safety CaUsation, Benefits and Efficiency (SafetyCube) is a European Commission supported Horizon 2020 project with the objective of developing an innovative road safety Decision Support System (DSS). The DSS will enable policy-makers and stakeholders to select and implement the most appropriate strategies, measures, and cost-effective approaches to reduce casualties of all road user types and all severities. This document is the second deliverable (4.2) of work package 4, which is dedicated to identifying and assessing road safety measures related to road users in terms of their effectiveness. The focus of deliverable 4.2 is on the identification and assessment of countermeasures and describes the corresponding operational procedure and outcomes. Measures which intend to increase road safety of all kind of road user groups have been considered. The following steps have been carried out: " Identification of human related road safety measures- creation of a taxonomy " Consultation of relevant stakeholders and outcomes of previous related projects for identification of most important human related measures " Systematic literature search and selection of relevant studies on identified key measures " Coding of evaluation studies " Analysis of key measures on basis of coded studies " Synopses of key measures. The core output of this task are synopses on road safety measures, which will also be available through the DSS. Within the synopses, each countermeasure (or group of measures) was analysed systematically on basis of scientific studies and is further assigned to one of four levels of effectiveness (marked with a colour code). Essential information of around 240 included studies was coded and will also be available in the database of the DSS. Furthermore, the synopses contain theoretical background on the measures and are prepared in different sections with different levels of detail for an academic as well as a non-academic audience. AbstractThe German National Reference Centre for Authentic Food (NRZ-Authent) and the competent German food control authorities of the federal states cooperated within the framework of the 10th joint Europol INTERPOL operation OPSON (OPSON X) in the detection of adulterated meat products. A total of 63 meat product samples were collected and analysed by the authorities using standard analytical procedures and subjected to a recently published 16S rDNA metabarcoding analysis. The sequence reads were analysed using 3 bioinformatics data processing strategies. The study aimed to gain additional data on the test samples regarding the authenticity of the declared species and to validate the 16S rDNA metabarcoding method with representative samples. The method was tested not only on 63 test samples, but also on 5 commercial samples from 2 interlaboratory comparison studies and 9 mock mixtures in parallel. The 16S rDNA metabarcoding method was able to detect species that were not target species of the used standard analytical methods, but failed, as shown previously, to detect fallow deer. Otherwise, the qualitative results of the 16S rDNA metabarcoding method were very similar to those of the methods currently in use by the German food control laboratories. Thus, the method has great potential to be used as a screening method for the authentication of mammal and poultry species in meat products.

Sociologisk Forskning publicerar inte enbart forskningsartiklar utan ger också utrymme för andra typer av artiklar som berör sociologins och sociologers villkor och utmaningar. Detta nummer innehåller två samtal mellan sociologer i Sverige om aktuella samtidsfenomen som påverkar utbildning och forskning i sociologiämnet: etikprövning och digital undervisning.
I den första av dessa texter samtalar Jonas Edlund, Sara Eldén, David Wästerfors och Lena Sohl om de utmaningar sociologisk forskning ställs inför i en tid av byråkratiserad etikprövning. Under senare år har processen för etikprövning genomgått stora förändringar. Mer forskning anses i dag behöva etikprövas. Ansökningsförfarandet har blivit mer omfattande samtidigt som det är utformat utifrån etiska överväganden som främst är relevanta för medicinsk forskning. I samtalet diskuteras vad dessa stora förändringar innebär för möjligheten att bedriva vissa typer av sociologisk forskning.
Hur undervisningen i sociologi har påverkats av övergången till digital undervisning under covid-19-pandemin diskuteras av Martin Berg, Ida Lidegran, Ulrika Schmauch, Glenn Sjöstrand och Zhanna Kravchenko. Vad innebär användandet av Zoom och andra internetbaserade verktyg för interaktionen mellan lärare och studenter? Vilka möjligheter finns det med digital undervisning som kan vara värda att ta tillvara även efter pandemin? Tidskriftens redaktion vill med detta samtal ge mer plats för texter som handlar om undervisning och lärande inom sociologiämnet och välkomnar därför sociologikollegor att inkomma med förslag till sådana artiklar eller färdiga manus.
Detta nummer innehåller fyra forskningsartiklar. I Helena Holgerssons artikel "The sociological craft through the lens of theatre. A call for imaginative critical research" diskuteras vad sociologin som disciplin kan vinna på att närma sig olika former av kultur. Utifrån egna erfarenheter av ett samarbete med dramatikern Mattias Andersson, vilket resulterade i pjäsen The mental states of Gothenburg, argumenterar Holgersson för att sociologer inte ska undvika sådana samarbeten av rädsla för att framstå som "ovetenskapliga" samt för att de snarare kan utveckla det sociologiska hantverket.
Magnus Boström ställer i artikeln "Social relations and challenges to consuming less in a mass consumption society" frågan hur det är möjligt att "växla ner" i ett samhälle där människor ständigt uppmanas att fortsätta med sina konsumtionsvanor. Utifrån en intervjustudie undersöks de sociala utmaningar som människor ställs inför när de försöker ändra sin livsstil genom att minska den egna konsumtionen. Marita Flisbäck och Margareta Carlén undersöker i sin artikel "Livspolitik och existentiell mening i ett alternativsamhälle på landsbygden. Exemplet Uddebo" människors drivkrafter för att söka sig till en plats bortom det omgivande samhällets normer om lönearbete och konsumtion. I artikeln visar de hur intervjupersonerna försöker få makt över sin tid och framtid genom att utveckla "en vardaglig livspolitik på landsbygden, bortom det kapitalistiska samhällets hets, som ger tänkbara svar på deras existentiella sökande".
I artikeln "Barns perspektiv på svensk vardagsrasism" ger Markus Lundström en inblick i "hur vardagsrasism verkar i den skolmiljö där rasism officiellt motverkas". Med utgångspunkt i åtta fokusgruppsintervjuer med mellanstadieelever och en grupp medforskande elvaåringar visar han i sin artikel hur "rasistiska mikroaggressioner avsiktligt eller oavsiktligt bidrar till rangordnande särskiljning" i skolvardagen.
Numret innehåller också två recensioner av nyligen försvarade avhandlingar i sociologi. Malcom Fairbrother recenserar Philip Creswells Chains of trust. Networks of persistent resistance in digital activism. I denna avhandling undersöks de sociala banden inom hacktivistkollektivet Anonymous med utgångspunkt i en flerårig etnografisk studie. Det framkommer att aktivisterna utsätter sig själva för risker, som att bli åtalade, samtidigt som de genom emotionellt arbete hjälper varandra att klara av stressen den digitala aktivismen skapar. Fairbrother ser i studien ett viktigt bidrag till den digitala sociologin då den visar att starka band och kollektiv handlande även kan uppstå i internetbaserade gemenskaper. Ulf Bjereld menar att Alexandra Franzéns avhandling Brottslingar av en mycket speciell sort. Spionskandalen som en maktkamp mellan visselblåsare, grävande journalister och underrättelsetjänster är kreativ, självständig och bidrar till "diskussionen om hur ett fritt och öppet samhälle bäst skyddar sig mot demokratins fiender utan att de metoder som används urholkar just friheten och öppenheten". Men Bjereld har också invändningar om huruvida det som Franzén kallar teori verkligen är en sådan, eller om det snarare rör sig om ett begrepp.

Sociologisk Forskning publicerar bidrag på svenska och övriga skandinaviska språk samt på engelska. Idiopathic Parkinson's disease (iPD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are chronic, multisystemic, and degenerative diseases associated with aging, with eventual epidemiological co-morbidity and overlap in molecular basis. This study aims to explore if metabolic and mitochondrial alterations underlie the previously reported epidemiologic and clinical co-morbidity from a molecular level. To evaluate the adaptation of iPD to a simulated pre-diabetogenic state, we exposed primary cultured fibroblasts from iPD patients and controls to standard (5 mM) and high (25 mM) glucose concentrations to further characterize metabolic and mitochondrial resilience. iPD fibroblasts showed increased organic and amino acid levels related to mitochondrial metabolism with respect to controls, and these differences were enhanced in high glucose conditions (citric, suberic, and sebacic acids levels increased, as well as alanine, glutamate, aspartate, arginine, and ornithine amino acids; p-values between 0.001 and 0.05). The accumulation of metabolites in iPD fibroblasts was associated with (and probably due to) the concomitant mitochondrial dysfunction observed at enzymatic, oxidative, respiratory, and morphologic level. Metabolic and mitochondrial plasticity of controls was not observed in iPD fibroblasts, which were unable to adapt to different glucose conditions. Impaired metabolism and mitochondrial activity in iPD may limit energy supply for cell survival. Moreover, reduced capacity to adapt to disrupted glucose balance characteristic of T2DM may underlay the co-morbidity between both diseases. Conclusions: Fibroblasts from iPD patients showed mitochondrial impairment, resulting in the accumulation of organic and amino acids related to mitochondrial metabolism, especially when exposed to high glucose. <span>La condición nutricional de un individuo influye en su desarrollo, pero la prevalencia de hábitos alimenticios poco saludables altera el equilibrio nutricional y desencadena varias complicaciones de salud y que también están influenciadas por los determinantes sociales de la salud. Por esta razón, este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar los </span>determinantes sociales de la salud y el estado nutricional de los estudiantes de una escuela primaria y secundaria pública en un barrio en las afueras de Belém, Estado de Pará, Brasil. Junto con la recopilación de medidas antropométricas, se utilizó un censo epidemiológico y alimentario, siguiendo protocolos ampliamente aceptados probados en la región amazónica, así como una evaluación clínica individual. Se realizó puntuación Z score y estadística descriptiva. Se midieron 55 estudiantes, 30 mujeres y 25 hombres, con una edad promedio de 13 años, un IMC promedio de 19.66 para el grupo femenino y 19.38 para el hombre, con un 4% de los niños con retraso severo, mientras que el 3.7% de Las niñas informaron un "retraso" en su crecimiento. El 13,3% de las niñas y el 25% de los niños beben alcohol. Los estudiantes mostraron un estado físico general sin complicaciones mayores, no hubo individuos obesos, pero existe un riesgo potencial para la afección. Sin embargo, debido a que es un área periférica, los determinantes sociales de la salud pueden fuertemente permitir el procesamiento de otras enfermedades nutricionales, como desnutrición y especialmente estrés, desde que identificamos un estudiante que se auto mutilan, y muchos otros que experimentan violencia diaria y baja esperanza de vida.

Continuous climate changes associated with the disorderly occupation of urban areas have exposed Latin American populations to the emergence and reemergence of arboviruses transmitted by Aedes aegypti. The magnitude of the financial and political problems these epidemics may bring to the future of developing countries is still ignored. Due to the lack of effective antiviral drugs and vaccines against arboviruses, the primary measure for preventing or reducing the transmission of diseases depends entirely on the control of vectors or the interruption of human-vector contact. In Brazil the first attempt to control A. aegypti took place in 1902 by eliminating artificial sites of eproduction. Other strategies, such as the use of oviposition traps and chemical control with dichlorodiphenyltrichlorethane and pyrethroids, were successful, but only for a limited time. More recently, biotechnical approaches, such as the release of transgenics or sterile mosquitoes and the, development of transmission blocking vaccines, are being applied to try to control the A. aegypti population and/or arbovirus transmission. Endemic countries spend about twice as much to treat patients as they do on the prevention of mosquito-transmitted diseases. The result of this strategy is an explosive outbreak of arboviruses cases. This review summarizes the social impacts caused by A. aegypti-transmitted diseases, mainly from a biotechnological perspective in vector control aimed at protecting Latin American populations against arboviruses.

Le GIS (groupement d'intérêt scientifique) « Études africaines en France » s'est proposé, en lien avec une demande issue de la direction de l'Institut national des sciences humaines et sociales (INSHS), d'essayer par ce bilan de mieux comprendre l'évolution des recherches françaisesconcernant l'Afrique.Il a voulu prendre en compte cinq décennies de recherches et de production, tout en insistant sur le tableau actuel de ses études, afin de pouvoir en comprendre les grandes tendances. Afin de pouvoir aussi tirer de cet exercice des pistes de réflexion pour le futur, et quelques suggestions endirection de nos institutions de tutelle, universités ou grands établissements de recherche.Pensée au sein du conseil scientifique du GIS, l'étude ici présentée a mobilisé de nombreuses compétences et la bonne volonté de dizaines de collègues qui ont pris part à cet exercice.

African migrants have become increasingly demonised in public debate and political rhetoric. There is much speculation about the incentives and trajectories of Africans on the move, and often these speculations are implicitly or overtly geared towards discouraging and policing their movements. What is rarely understood or scrutinised however, are the intricate ways in which African migrants are marginalised and excluded from public discourse; not only in Europe but in migrant-receiving contexts across the globe. Invisibility in African Displacements offers a series of case studies that explore these dynamics. What tends to be either ignored or demonised in public debates on African migration are the deliberate strategies of avoidance or assimilation that migrants make use of to gain access to the destinations or opportunities they seek, or to remain below the radar of restrictive governance regimes.
