Die Landwirtschaft, die in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten zur Erhaltung und zur Schaffung neuer Lebensräume für viele Arten beigetragen hat, ist durch ihre Intensivierung und Industrialisierung zu einem der Hauptfaktoren der Gefährdung von Biodiversität in Deutschland, Europa aber auch weltweit geworden. Zum Klimawandel trägt die Landwirtschaft mit nicht unerheblichen Mengen an Lachgas- und Methanemissionen bei.
