Many scholars and pundits believe that the 1964 presidential election between Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson disrupted the New Deal order and ushered in a sixth party system anchored in part by race issues. But, curiously, the conventional wisdom has not fared well empirically. In this article, I employ disaggregated survey data and novel methodological tools to identify temporal patterns in the relationships between partisanship, New Deal issues and race issues. My conclusions are as follows: (1) the association between race issues and partisanship has switched signs in the South; (2) a racial axis of cleavage has opened up outside the South; (3) the New Deal issue axis has grown in the South; and (4) New Deal issues continue to cleave partisans outside the South. The amendments unilaterally introduced by Peronism in the electoral system at national level as well as the cancellation of local elections in Córdoba between 1946 and 1951, entailed an administrative centralization that had, as flipside , a process of nationalization of politics . To account of it , we analyzed both the political and administrative consequences of the loss of autonomy of the municipalities as electoral processes included in that period , instances in which the proselytizing efforts of the acting parties in the province concentrated. ; Las modificaciones unilateralmente introducidas por el peronismo en el régimen electoral a nivel nacional, así como la anulación de las elecciones municipales en el espacio cordobés entre 1946 y 1951, conllevaron a una centralización administrativa que tuvo, como contracara, un proceso de nacionalización de la política. Para dar cuenta del mismo, analizamos tanto las consecuencias político-administrativas de la pérdida de autonomía de los municipios cordobeses como los procesos eleccionarios comprendidos en dicho período, instancias en las cuales se concentraron los esfuerzos proselitistas de los partidos actuantes en la provincia.

Al mateix temps, es destaca cada cop més la importància que tenen certs factors culturals en la construcció i reproducció del nacionalisme. Aquest article segueix aquestes línies de reflexió i contribueix al debat sobre la nacionalització, tot enriquint la perspectiva historiogràfica amb les aportacions dels treballs comparatius entre nacions des d'una metodologia qualitativa entre història, sociologia, antropologia, psicologia social i ciències polítiques. L'objectiu és pensar des dels casos del Quebec i Catalunya els aspectes culturals del nacionalisme, els factors de nacionalització, la socialització i el rol de les pràctiques culturals per entendre un procés clau del nacionalisme: la nacionalització. ; Contemporary studies on nationalism emphasize that the nation is built both from above and from below. The nation is an idea and a project but also a national feeling. At the same time, the importance of cultural factors in the construction and reproduction of nationalism has been highlighted. Following this perspective, this article aims to collaborate in the debate on nationalization, enriching the historiographical perspective with the contributions of the comparative studies between nations without state from a qualitative methodology between History, Sociology, Anthropology and Political science. Taking into account the cases of Catalonia and Quebec, the main objective is to think about the cultural aspects of nationalism, the factors involved in the nationalization process, the socialization and the role of cultural practices to understand a key process of nationalism, that is to say nationalization. ; Es común leer en la bibliografía especializada que la nación es construida tanto desde arriba como desde abajo, que es una idea y un proyecto pero también un sentimiento. Al mismo tiempo, se viene destacando cada vez más la importancia que tienen ciertos factores culturales en la construcción y reproducción del nacionalismo. Este artículo sigue estas líneas de reflexión y contribuye al debate sobre la nacionalización, enriqueciendo la perspectiva historiográfica con las aportaciones de los trabajos comparativos entre naciones desde una metodología cualitativa entre historia, sociología, antropología, psicología social y ciencias políticas. El objetivo es pensar desde los casos del Quebec y Cataluña los aspectos culturales del nacionalismo, los factores de nacionalización, la socialización y el rol de las prácticas culturales para entender un proceso clave del nacionalismo: la nacionalización.
Nonnational elections are at least partially determined by factors pertaining to the national level, which is problematic for the democratic functioning of these nonnational policy levels. Recent scholarly work has begun examining the impact of the election campaign on voters' tendency to vote "nationally". However, these studies focus almost exclusively on European Union (EU) elections, and their findings may not be generalizable to other contexts. Moreover, they assume campaigns affect all voters similarly. In contrast, this study examines whether campaigns affect voters' tendency to vote nationally in a local election, and whether partisan preferences condition the effect. These expectations are tested using panel survey data and a media content analysis collected during the 2012 Antwerp local election campaign. The results indicate that the campaign affected voters, making local considerations more important. However, the impact was conditional upon voters' partisan preferences: When a party put more emphasis on the national context, voters preferring that party became more likely to rely on national considerations throughout the campaign.
