Abstract
The mounting economic and technological conflict with the U.S. is hitting China's economy at a difficult time. Harsh retaliation by China against U.S. economic sanctions would further exacerbate its internal economic problems. During the 2023 National People's Congress, the Chinese leadership has made it clear that it is currently giving priority to addressing its internal economic problems. At the same time, it is also stepping up efforts to enhance the security of China's industrial and supply chains and its self-reliance in science and technology. This reduces China's vulnerability in the conflict with the U.S. and strengthens its capacity for future countermeasures.

Since 1992, the percentage of Taiwanese identifying as "Taiwanese only" increased by 50%. The literature explains the increase by generation, democratization, and military threat. None of these foresees the decline of Taiwan identity between 2016 and 2018. We argue that the decline can be explained by issue ownership +  hedging. After the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) won both the presidency and the Congress for the first time in 2016, DPP's performance was used by voters to evaluate the utility of Taiwan identity. Propensity score matching and regressions on three groups of surveys (TEDS, TISS, and TNSS) support the theory and rule out alternative explanations.

SUMMARY
This briefing offers three contributions concerning the voter profile of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), as witnessed at the 2021 elections in South Africa. The first is that the party's support base is relatively well educated (compared to the ruling African National Congress). Second, well over 10% of party support comes from relatively high earners, as measured by income levels. Finally, EFF support appears notably 'fluid', as indicated by voters switching support to the EFF (mostly from the ANC) and away from the EFF (mostly towards smaller parties), ultimately suggesting an image of the EFF as a 'gateway party'.

As a Muslim majority province in British India (the other being Bengal), the Punjab was crucial to Syed Ahmad Khan's programme of education and progress of Muslims as a qaum (community) under the patronage of the British government. The article analyses Syed Ahmad Khan's speeches during his visits to the Punjab in 1873 and 1883–84 and discusses his response to the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885. The last section deals with the bearing of Syed Ahmad Khan's activity on communalisation of popular consciousness, especially in the Punjab. Evidently, his ideas and strategies evolved with changing political contexts.

The National Labor Relations Board was established by Congress as an independent authority to administer the federal labor law for private‐sector employers. As part of its charge, the NLRB is responsible for ensuring that employees enjoy the free exercise of their Section 7 rights as to whether they wish to be represented by a labor union for the purpose of collective bargaining. The sanctity of the voting procedures established by the NLRB is crucial not only to protect employee rights but also to inspire confidence in the framework established by law, the secret ballot election, to allow for the exercise of those rights.

For years, political scholars and pundits have claimed that primary elections are exacerbating polarization and with the 2022 midterm elections approaching this year has been no different. With many extremist candidates on both sides of the aisle, it certainly feels like this claim should be true, but does the political science back that up?

To find an answer we turn to Harvard political scientist James Snyder and his 2010 paper "Primary Elections and Partisan Polarization in the U.S. Congress". The findings are surprising and may have some key insights for how we should think about primary elections in the U.S.

It is no secret that political power in the United States and elsewhere has, overall, shifted to "the executive" and away from legislatures. There may be debate about whether this is a product of willful "overreaching" by executives or whether, within the United States, Congress has instead willingly ceded power by engaging in what Justice Cardozo in 1935 called "delegation run riot." The concern about executive power has perhaps become heightened in the aftermath of the Trump presidency—just as Boris Johnson, with his own defiance of some of the "conventions" that are essential to the British constitutional order, is provoking debate in Great Britain.

The article examines the process of the revival of conciliarity in the Russian Church during the Civil War as a factor that influenced the socio-political processes of the era. During this period, the church community of the South of Russia discussed ways of theological understanding, meaning and practical implementation of the principle of conciliarity. The author pays particular attention to the All-Russian Local Council of 1917-1918. It became the central event around which all the significant events of church life were concentrated. The congresses of the clergy and laity became the preparatory stage for organizing the conciliar forms of Church activity.

Article / Best practices ; The No Surprises Act dictates that the arbiter chooses the offer closest to the median in network rate, unless there is additional information that shows that the in-network rate is inappropriate. Many provider groups — including the American Hospital Association and American Medical Association — are engaged in litigation with the government, contending in part that the "median in-network rate goes against Congress' intent in passing the law by disregarding other factors that should be considered." Will the No Surprises Act survive judicial scrutiny? That remains to be seen. In the interim, hospitals, insurance companies, mental health providers, and patients must scurry to be compliant.

AbstractRecently, the controversy pertaining to whether faith‐based institutions, which receive federal funding, can discriminate based on sexual orientation has received the United States Supreme Court's attention. However, before the Supreme Court decided to review this issue, the Every Child Deserve a Family Act was proposed to Congress. This bill would prohibit any child welfare agency, which receives federal financial assistance, from discriminating against potential foster or adoptive parents on the basis of religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. This Note seeks to analyze whether the Every Child Deserves a Family Act is constitutional.

Abstract
Can strengthening intellectual property protection for producers of one good affect innovation in other related goods? To answer this question, we exploit a unique policy experiment in the interwar military aircraft industry. Airframe designs had little intellectual property protection before 1926, but changes passed by Congress in 1926 provided airframe manufacturers with enhanced property rights over new designs. We show that granting property rights to airframe producers increased innovation in airframes, but slowed innovation in aero-engines, a complementary good where there was no change in the availability of intellectual property protection. We propose and test a simple theory that explains these patterns.

The article is devoted to studying the process of theoretical development and practical implementation of the plan for integrating the region of South and Southeast Asia into the U. S. strategy for restoring world trade, which is called the «Marshall plan for Asia» or AFAP. The Eisenhower administration's desire to use the Cold War context to secure funding for the program from the U. S. Congress is emphasized. The reasons for the failure of the plan are analyzed, related to the contradictions between the countries of the region under consideration, as well as their fears of losing bilateral assistance from the United States.

In the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, an unprecedented number of American Muslims ran for public office, including the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. This study analyzes the anti-Muslim/anti-immigrant Twitter discourse surrounding Ilhan Omar, one of these two successful candidates. The results identify three categories of accounts that linked Omar to clusters of accounts that shaped the Islamophobia/xenophobic narrative: Influencers, Amplifiers, and Icons. This cadre of accounts played a synergistic and disproportionate role in raising the level of hate speech as a vast network containing a high proportion of apparently inauthentic accounts magnified the messages generated by a handful of provocateurs.

In India, Assembly Elections were held in Assam, West Bengal, Kerela, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the first half of 2021. Driving this study is an attempt to analyse the election results of the state of Assam where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, Mitrajot or National Democratic Alliance (NDA), successfully defeated the Indian National Congress (INC), and its allies, Mahajot (Grand Alliance). Drawing primarily upon secondary data and applying GIS techniques, the study makes a critical analogy of how Mitrajot managed to accomplish victory.

The ability to impeach a sitting president is granted to Congress in the U.S. Constitution as part of the system of checks and balances. The process can have a wide scope of impact on our society and other political processes. This study analyzes the impeachment processes of Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump through the lenses of media coverage, changes in approval polls and the results of midterm elections. By identifying and comparing the emerging trends in each instance, a better understanding of the relationships between impeachment, its portrayal in the media, presidential approval and election results can be developed
