Settlement of 3 Texas counties is related to dialect vocabularies now found in the area. Census figures indicating regional influences in early migration show a predominantly Southern influx. It is expected, then, that the regional vocabulary would reflect this fact. To test this hypothesis dialects are studied through analysis of data obtained using an 800-item n%, which was admin'ed indirectly by res'ers who never mentioned the word or phrase they were trying to elicit. total/sum N=12 & each interview took from 6 to 8 hours. Informants were 4 elderly men & women, 4 middle aged & 4 younger people, all white, & 2 middle-aged Negroes. 1 person in each group had attended Coll; the others had varying educ'al backgrounds. Data culled from the interviews is compared with dialect terminology throughout the East using H. Kurath's A WORD GEOGRAPHY OF THE EASTERN U.S. (Ann Arbor Mich, 1949) & tables of key words compiled from this word are r'ed with tables indicating birthplace by % of inhabitants. Resulting figures reveal that the dialects of Southeast Texas are composed of approximately 5 parts Southern to 2 parts Midland to 1 part Northern expressions. The surprisingly large % of northern expressions is accounted for by the hyp that such expressions were part of La speech patterns transplanted during migration. L. Tumin.

Taking its point of departure in the newly published World Bank Economic Outlook for Jordan (October 2016) the article discusses the recent political and economic realities in Jordan with a focus on the Syrian refugees and the socalled Jordan Compact programme, launched in connection with the conference "Supporting Syria and the Region", held in London 4 February 2016. The initiative can be seen as an example of a successful migration diplomacy effort in the sense that Jordan mobilized strong international state actors and also the World Bank behind the Jordanian interests. At the conference they launched the mentioned programme, according to which 200,000 job opportunities for Syrian refugees would be offered "while they remain in the country, contributing to the Jordanian economy without competing with Jordanians for jobs", as it said in the document. Taking this move Jordan is to some degree moving away from its official encampment policy and this provides Jordan with new opportunities in the context of migration diplomacy. ; Taking its point of departure in the newly published World Bank Economic Outlook for Jordan (October 2016) the article discusses the recent political and economic realities in Jordan with a focus on the Syrian refugees and the so-called Jordan Compact programme, launched in connection with the conference "Supporting Syria and the Region", held in London 4 February 2016. (ICE)

This book explores the contested notion of compassionate migration in its discourse and practice. In the context of today's migration patterns within the Americas, compassionate migration can play a fundamental role in responding to the hardships that many migrants suffer before, during, and after their journeys. This volume explores the boundaries of compassion from legal, political, philosophical, and interdisciplinary perspectives, and supplies examples where state and non-state actors engage in practices of compassion and humanity through formal and informal regimes. Despite the lack of a concise and precise definition of the concept and practice of compassionate migration, all authors in this volume agree on the pressing need for more humane and compassionate treatment for those leaving their home country behind in search of a better life.
