Reading an edited book such as Denzin and Giardina's 2011 Qualitative Inquiry and Global Crisis that comprises different chapters and authorship patterns may be challenging and evocative, let alone a book that focus on qualitative inquiry in an era of globalization, racism, privatization, and social injustice. To make the journey of reviewing this new book enjoyable, I posed a meaningful guiding question to me: what could a book that links between qualitative inquiry and global crisis contribute to our theoretical and practical knowledge about the qualitative paradigm? The answer is not yes or no but rather manifold; some papers shed light on innovative aspects of qualitative inquiry while others seem to reframe well-known scholarly forms or methods pertaining to the qualitative paradigm.

The development community is increasingly accepting the importance of evidence, feedback, and learning. Some of which is generated through research, monitoring, and self-evaluation during policy-making, program design, and implementation. Others come from feedback from people directly affected by interventions who have gained a greater voice, be it through third-party feedback mechanisms, social media, beneficiary surveys, or otherwise. And, there is independent evaluation. At the World Bank Group, the independent evaluation group (IEG) has over the past years deepened the evidence that can help development finance succeed in translating the sustainable development goals (SDGs) into actions and results. This paper brings together insights from a cross-section of relevant evaluations that cover various aspects of the large, multifaceted agenda of the SDGs and their financing needs.

The paper provides an overview of the development of public procurement (PP) rules in the EU and in selected international organisations. The EU rules were originally designed to foster competition and efficiency, and the dominant award criterion was the price. Over time, and in particular in the context of the "EU 2020" strategy, PP rules have been extended to address not only economic objectives, but also social and environmental goals as well as innovation aspects. As a result, such "strategic" elements of PP have in 2014 been legalised by the new EU Procurement Directives. However, as long as strategic PP remains an isolated policy, it will have only limited ramifications on Community-wide sustainability. Strategic PP should rather complement sustainability policies in their respective areas and should thus become an integral part of overall EU policies.

The legislation of health warning labels on cigarette packaging is a major focus for tobacco control internationally and is a key component of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. This population-level intervention is broadly supported as a vital measure for warning people about the health consequences of smoking. However, some components of this approach warrant close critical inspection. Through a qualitative content analysis of the imagery used on health warning labels from 4 countries, we consider how this imagery depicts people that smoke. By critically analyzing this aspect of the visual culture of tobacco control, we argue that this imagery has the potential for unintended consequences, and obscures the social and embodied contexts in which smoking is experienced.

В статье описывается один из возможных подходов по выявлению ключевых акторов сети, позволяющий сформулировать некоторые механизмы управления сети в целом. ; The article discusses some aspects of the political and administrative networks. Considering the management of political networks, representing the most complex type of social networking, because of the high degree of nonlinearity and uncertainty occurring processes, there are not comprehensive studies to determine the mechanisms controlling such network entities. This article describes one of the possible approaches to identify key actors in the network to formulate several mechanisms of the whole network control.

Comme tous les moments révolutionnaires, Mai 68 n'est jamais complètement passé : il reste vivant pour la pensée politique contemporaine. En 1968, Cornelius Castoriadis et Claude Lefort, deux des principaux penseurs politiques de la France de l'après-guerre, proposaient leurs lectures des événements de Mai en France dans un livre important :Mai 68 : la Brèche. Pour le vingtième anniversaire des événements, ils écrivaient à nouveau sur ceux-ci, en cherchant à examiner leur postérité à la fois sociale et intellectuelle. Ces interprétations de Mai 68 font apparaître des convergences aussi bien que des oppositions théoriques entre les deux auteurs, qui concernent aussi bien le rôle de l'intellectuel que les définitions de la révolution, du pouvoir et de la démocratie. Mai 68 sert ainsi de révélateur, qui éclaire des aspects importants du dissensus politique et théorique qui a opposé Castoriadis à Lefort dès les années 1950.

This article investigates the applicability of the influential economics of civil war literature to the case of the conflict which occurred in Solomon Islands between 1998 and 2003. It is argued that a modified version of the greed thesis resonates with particular aspects of the situation in Solomon Islands, particularly during the latter phases of the conflict when a variety of actors, including politicians, businessmen and ex-militants, were clearly benefiting from the instrumentalisation of violence and disorder. The underlying causes of the conflict have much to do with historical patterns of uneven development which have created overlapping boundaries of social-economic inequality and ethrticity. As is the case with other recent armed conflicts in Melanesia, issues of land, identity, ethnicity and socioeconomic justice were central to the conflict.

Abstract - Trade Unions have been the most important constituency of the British Labour Party since 1900. The relationship between the party and workers' organizations has undergone deep changes, resulting in the open confrontation that characterised the years of the latest Labour governments (1997-2010). Labour Prime Ministers' speeches to the annual conference of the Trade Union Congress form a genre on their own as they are addressed to a distinctive discourse community and respond to specific purposes (Swales 1990). They are institutionalised ways of acting semiotically (Fairclough 2003, 2006), thus aspects of the social practice of governing. This article provides a critical genre analysis of speeches by Labour Prime Ministers to the TUC from 1969 to 2007 to reveal the frictions inside the Labour discourse community.

The author has found that political stability as a complex, internally structured phenomenon is studied mainly through the following aspects: the scale and scope of social life; objects and subjects of security; pace and resources; the nature of the socio-political management of this condition and the means of achieving it, and others.

Подчеркивается, что в основе левой политической доктрины лежит мировоззренческая модель, которая рассматривает человека как активного преобразователя. Автор анализирует сущностные признаки и социально-исторические аспекты левоэкстремистской политической доктрины, формулирует определение идеологии и практики левого экстремизма как принципиального допущения возможности использования насилия. ; The article reveals the historical-cultural and philosophical-ideological origins of the political doctrine of left-wing extremism. The paper emphasizes that the basis of left-wing political doctrine is an ideological model, which considers a human being as an active transformer. The author analyzes the essential features and social-historical aspects of extreme left-wing political doctrine, formulates the definition of the ideology and practice of left-wing extremism as an assumed possibility for using violence.

The author identifies the main trends of the RF president's appeal in respect of different aspects concerning the formation of the civil society in post Soviet Russia, its interconnections with political, social and economical reforms in the country and with internal and external political situation.

Communication failures are considered as one the elements of social and political discourse. Factors influencing the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication including particularly standing out phenomenon of trust are defined. The specific scheme of partner trust maintenance is proposed. Difficulties arising in this process are described.

A contribution of modern Ukrainian historiography to study the problems of history of the Neuryadova Starshyna of the Cossack Hetmanate of the XVII-XVIII centuries is studied. The works of famous Ukrainian scientists that have studied the formation of the Cossack state in the XVI-XVII centuries including social divisions that formed the prototype of Znachkove Comrade are analyzed. Publications of researchers who studied the history of various ranks of Neuryadova Starshyna of the XVII-XVIII centuries separately or investigated certain aspects are studied. The contribution of each historian in studies of the various problems of functioning of Znachkove Military Society and ranks of the Neuryadova Starshyna of the XVIII century is estimated. There are special contributions of V. Kryvosheya, V. Panashenko, O. Repan, V. Gorobets, S. Pavlenko.
