The article encompasses problems of transnational crimes through the prism of globalization processes of the 21st century. It touches upon criminological parochialism and states of denial; types of criminology such as comparative, transnational, international, global, and also criminal justice; provisional genealogy for a global criminology. The author breaks down crimes by governmental, white-collar, state-corporate, finance and crimes of globalization where he believes a financial crime is the most crucial and the least researched and needs to be thoroughly examined. The chapter goes in depth with definitions like sovereignty, nationalism, and legitimacy as vital entities in global criminology. The conclusion is as follows: the world needs to dedicate more attention to global crimes as a main topic of international law and comparative politics. L. Babiasz

This book critically explores the development of radical criminology through a range of written Ancient Greek works including epic and lyrical poetry, drama and philosophy, across different chapters. It traces the development of political power and the concepts of law, legitimacy, crime, justice and deviance in the Ancient Greek world and the political struggles that propelled that development, using the conflict perspective as a conceptual tool of the sociological analysis of reality. Theoretical discussions of crime and justice typically stem from the better known works of Plato or Aristotle although this book explores the works preceding these. This book will appeal to those interested in the (pre)history of criminology and the historical production of criminological knowledge.--

This supplement to the Journal of the International AIDS Society focuses on the engagement of the social and political sciences within HIV research and, in particular, maintaining a productive relationship between social and biomedical perspectives on HIV. It responds to a number of concerns raised primarily by social scientists, but also recognized as important by biomedical and public health researchers. These concerns include how best to understand the impact of medical technologies (such as HIV treatments, HIV testing, viral load testing, male circumcision, microbicides, and pre‐and post‐exposure prophylaxis) on sexual cultures, drug practices, relationships and social networks in different cultural, economic and political contexts. The supplement is also concerned with how we might examine the relationship between HIV prevention and treatment, understand the social and political mobilization required to tackle HIV, and sustain the range of disciplinary approaches needed to inform and guide responses to the global pandemic. The six articles included in the supplement demonstrate the value of fostering high quality social and political research to inform, guide and challenge our collaborative responses to HIV/AIDS.

A relatively marginal phenomenon in scientific literature, mainly polarised by the prism of integration/assimilation in settlement societies up to the 1970s, international migration has become, for some thirty years, a major research object, from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, to often fertile dialogues (mainly sociology, anthropology, political and legal sciences, geography, demography, economics, history, but also ethnopsychiatric or intercultural psychology), as well as diverse methodological approaches. This article highlights some major developments in these scientific approaches to migration since the 1980s, when globalisation has become the main key to reading contemporary societies. The turning points of space and the global environment have fought the scales of understanding of migratory phenomena, which are short-bypassing, for the benefit of the individuals involved, of globalised systems, and at the meso level of transnational networks, on the scale of the United States. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, it is reaffirmed in a new context of tensions, which necessitates more political and committed approaches.
