In this work we propose to study Orthodoxy in an ex-communist country of Eastern Europe, which has just integrated the European Union: Romania. It is simply a matter of observing closely the religious milieu of two basic Orthodox communities, that is to say two rural Romanian parishes. The object of the study corresponds to those of the phenomena, understood as "facts of civilization", observable in two rural Orthodox parishes of present-day Romania. We seek, more precisely, to study parish civilization within the specific framework of two villages: the first, Corporal Alexa; the second, Nemţişor. The first is a village located in the West of Romania, in a rich plain, near the Hungarian border, and therefore, with a mixed population, ethnically and denominationally. The second is located in a hilly region in the east of Romania, in the province of Moldavia, whose history is influenced by the culture of the Slavic peoples and by monasticism. The work of the thesis is based on a study of observation and description of the specific features of the fields concerned. The ultimate goal is to understand today's orthodox parish civilization, understanding based on the work of observation and description. The understanding of what is happening today in this type of parish is based in order to deepen, on the analysis of the universe of thought of the parishioners. The description of the exterior aspect of the parish and village is completed by the description of the parish, of the people, by the way they represent the orthodox world and their position vis-à-vis the church, the rites, the priest and others. To better understand people's experiences, we conducted some 30 in-depth interviews. The plan of the thesis is divided into three main parts: a part devoted to the village of Corporal Alexa, a second part to the village of Nemţişor; the third part, which concerns the two villages, presents a typology of the parishioners. The first two parts strive to reconstruct the past and the socio-economic and cultural conditions of each ...

"Reflective Planning Practice: Theory, Cases and Methods uses structured, first-person reflection to reveal the artistry of planning practice. The value of professional reflection is widely recognized, but there is a difference between acknowledging it and doing it. This book takes up that challenge, providing planners' reflections on past practice as well as prompts for reflecting in the midst of planning episodes. It explains the reflection framework employed in seven case studies written by planning educators who also practice. The cases reveal practical judgments made during the planning episode and takeaways for practice, as the planners used logic and emotion, and applied convention and invention. The case authors share their personal experiences, purposes, and professional style, and their interpretation of the rich context that underpins the cases including theories, socio-political aspects, workplace setting, and roles. The book seeks to awaken students and practitioners to the opportunities of a pragmatic, reflective approach to planning practice"--

"This book provides a critical and comparative approach to corporate governance. The book sets out, and makes a case for what the author terms 'progressive corporate governance', in order to promote an approach to corporations which furthers social progress. The book takes a hybrid approach in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and assesses the situation in Anglo-American, European and transitional economies. The book argues that in judging which governance theories and practices are progressive one must consider them in historical and social context and it also considers whether there are some governance approaches which may be said to be universally progressive. The book looks at progressive corporate governance in the light of the recent worldwide economic crises and explores how state intervention should proceed. "--

; This work discusses about expansive learning and the Change Lab methodology as an approach to support collaboration between key players in thinking about a socio-scientific issue in health: the legalization of cannabis. In 2018, the Canadian government adopted the Cannabis Act, which made it legal for recreational use for those over 21 years of age in Quebec. This new and complex context represents a lot of challenges for schools. They are confronted with a lack of recommendations regarding the tools to address the issue with students and traditional approaches to awareness do not have the expected results. The advent of legalization provides a unique opportunity to explore the development of partnerships that will promote adolescent health education around cannabis use. During a four-month intervention, three meetings were held with seven high school team members. The participants met to discuss the problems encountered in relation to the new law and the solutions to be put in place. The third generation of activity theory was used as a theoretical framework to document the constraints encountered by participants when attempting to co-model a new approach. The principle of dual stimulation underlying the Change Lab led to the development and implementation of two concrete tools that enabled participants to reframe the initial problem and resolve some conflicting situations: lack of collaboration with students and parents. The results also indicate that difficulties in redefining the division of labor when introducing a new practice were a hindrance to the participants' agency and the development of the desired activity.

Left Universalism, Africacentric Essays presents a defense of universalism as the foundation of moral and political arguments and commitments. Consisting of five intertwined essays, the book claims that centering such arguments and commitments on a particular place, in this instance the African world, is entirely compatible with that foundational universalism. Ato Sekyi-Otu thus proposes a less conventional mode of Africacentrism, one that rejects the usual hostility to universalism as an imperialist Eurocentric hoax. Sekyi-Otu argues that universalism is an inescapable presupposition of ethical judgment in general and critique in particular, and that it is especially indispensable for radical criticism of conditions of existence in postcolonial society and for vindicating visions of social regeneration. The constituent chapters of the book are exhibits of that argument and question some fashionable conceptual oppositions and value apartheids. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars in the fields of social and political philosophy, contemporary political theory, postcolonial studies, African philosophy and social thought.
International audience ; The case of Central and Eastern European Countries – especially Poland – invites us to reconsider the temporal and political aspects of the reconfiguration of Higher Education with regard to austerity measures. The financial crisis of 2007/2008 cannot be viewed as the main trigger of this sector's redesign, for two main reasons. First, the Polish economy has not been hit by this economic turmoil as hard as some West European countries. Secondly, the structural austerity measures which have affected the country's public sector followed the 1989 fall of the Communist regime and the 'shock therapy' implemented by the first democratic governments. These neo-liberal policy measures set up in the beginning of the 1990s have led to a far-reaching privatisation of Higher Education. Still, 2007 appears as a caesura, as the new liberal government undertook several important measures to reform the Higher Education systems in the name of competitiveness, diversification and excellence.
