Unter Beimischung orthodox-kommunistischer und 'sozialdemokratischer' Elemente dominieren in der KPRF-Programmatik eindeutig nationalpatriotische Grundpositionen, wobei die Partei zum 'nationalen Befreiungskampf' gegen das El'cin-Regime aufruft. Ideologisch knüpft die KPRF an traditionelle, von der 'russischen Idee' abgeleitete vorrevolutionäre Werte an. In diesem Zeichen setzt sich die KPRF für die Wiederherstellung der Größe Rußlands ein - durch freiwillige Reintegration der GUS-Staaten zu einer erneuerten Union und durch Betonung der Rolle Rußlands als einer gegenüber dem Westen zivilisatorisch eigenständigen, konkurrierenden Großmacht. Dennoch droht bei wachsendem Einfluß der KPRF nicht zwangsläufig eine Neuauflage der alten Konfrontationspolitik. (BIOst-Mrk)

Der Autor beschreibt die politische Entwicklung Bulgariens seit dem Herbst 1989. Der mit dem Sturz Zivkons einsetzende Niedergang der Sozialistischen Partei, der Aufstieg der "Union demokratischer Kräfte" (SDS) zur führenden politischen Bewegung und die programmatischen und taktischen Meinungsverschiedenheiten innerhalb dieses aus einem breiten Spektrum von Parteien und Gruppen zusammengesetzten Bündnisses, die schließlich zur Spaltung des SDS führten, werden referiert. Mit dem Wahlsieg der SDS bei den Parlamentswahlen im Oktober 1991 hatte Bulgarien als erstes Land auf dem Balkan die Sozialisten aus ihrer Führungsposition verdrängt. Abschließend werden die Ursachen für das politische Scheitern des SDS-Regierung untersucht. (BIOst-Srt)

Stalins revolutionäre und politische Laufbahn bildet ein Kapitel der Geschichte der bolschewistischen Partei Rußlands und der Sowjet-Union, endet aber nicht mit seinem Tode, sondern erst drei Jahre später, auf dem XX. Parteikongreß, mit der Zerstörung des Stalin-Kults. This article reports on research among 530 black industrial workers in Durban. A majority was unionised and had been involved in the pensions strikes 1981-1982. Comparisons are made with non-unionised unskilled migrant workers. The results suggest that black worker solidarity and determination during labour disputes is based on very practical and economic considerations, among union members and others

The annual APSA Africa Workshop, Representation Reconsidered: Ethnic Politics and Africa's Governance Institutions in Comparative Perspective was held in partnership with the Institute for Development Studies at University of Nairobi in Kenya, from July 23 to August 6. It was the fourth residential workshop of a multi-year initiative that APSA will convene in sub-Saharan Africa from 2008 though 2014 (previous workshops were held in Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzania).

strips, to comic books and graphic novels. A more or less respectable
cartoon format is the newspaper editorial cartoon. This symposium
considers the state of editorial cartooning around the globe, from
representations of gender, religion, student life, and popular culture in
the United States, to visual politics in Indonesia, Yemen, Turkey, and
South Africa.
