The global economic and financial crisis had severe impact on southern European economies and stimulated growing numbers of mainly young migrants heading north, nurturing the fear of brain drain back home. This volume compiles recent research results on European south-north migration, addressing migration processes and practices, the management of migratory moves by institutional frameworks and relevant public discourse. It thereby delivers an important contribution to the understanding of the durability and contextuality of recent European south-north migration and their consequences for European economies, politics and societies.

What is the problem of gender inequality in politics? What measures are proposed to solve it? These questions are explored through an analysis of the policy frames on gender inequality in politics in Spain & in the European Union. By applying frame analysis to a selection of official documents, the article reflects on the formulation of gender policies & the (in)consistencies of the latter. Tables, Appendixes, References. Because of disruptions caused by the pandemic, it is no surprise that 2020 saw a marked decline in successful union organizing activity. Last year, the union win rate decreased to 69.9% as compared to a win rate of 75.6% in the year before, according to data analysis from Bloomberg Law and the Bureau of National Affairs. 2020 was also the year with the fewest union representation petitions ever filed.
The implementation of the modern methods of Distance Learning is of great importance, not οnly in the field of Language Teaching and Learning, but also in all other fields of Education and Training. One of the main characteristics of our continent is its linguistic and cultιιral diversity. This diversity is considered as one of the strongest assets of the European Union, but at the same time it creates serious problems. Therefore, one very important objective should be the development of ways and means, which will allow us to minimize the problems related to the linguistic and cultιιral differences existing in Europe, and thus transform these differences into even stronger assets. Ιn the present paper a systematic study is made of the cross-cultural problems we are facing during the implementation of Trans-European Distance Learning Programmes. Some of these problems are the following: Calendar and curriculum of the courses, methodologies used for overcoming the language barrier problem, methodologies used for enhancing the intercultιιral communication among tutors and learners, design and production of the learning materials for the courses. Instead of using a "lingua franca"(such as English or French), new approaches may be necessary for overcoming the language barrier problem. Managers of Distance Learning Programmes are now obliged to produce an active policy, a "management" of language. Such a language management needs to be based οn negotiated agreements between participants of the Programmes.

An examination of the impact of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP), instituted Nov 1995 in Barcelona, argues that it has faltered in taking the medium-term steps needed to achieve its ambitious long-term goals. Much fault is said to lie with changing parameters of the context within which it operates, especially disintegration of the Middle East peace process. Another contextual change involves new defense & security responsibilities/capabilities assumed by the European Union (EU) as defined in the Helsinki Headline Goal of 1999. Although the Helsinki & Barcelona processes have remained separate to date, it is conceivable that the new EU force might take on Mediterranean missions. The questionable wisdom of the EMP's emphasis on economic development, especially free trade, as the starting point for building partnerships in political/security, human/cultural relations, & economic/financial is discussed, along with challenges regarding the proposed inclusion of Cyprus, Turkey, & Malta in the EU, the EU's Common Strategy on the Mediterranean Region launched in 2000, & the need to rebalance political & security aspects of the Barcelona process. 4 References. Concerned about the EU's apparent lack of cultural legitimacy, EU institutions have increasingly engaged in the transnational politics of history to enhance European identity and foster EU legitimacy. The House of European History museum project in Brussels marks a high point in the European Parliament's history politics. Based on document analysis and interviews, an analysis of the project's origins and evolution highlights the narrow limits of cultural engineering from above, by EU institutions, however. The constraining dissensus in EU politics has forced the European Parliament to rely entirely on the curators and professional historians to legitimize its museum as one that conforms to prevailing curatorial and historical standards. As a result, the first permanent exhibition differs markedly from the original plan. Its narrative has become East Europeanized and the history of European integration proper has been marginalized.
