Indonesia is a country located in the ring of fire. Various kinds of disasters threats parts of Indonesia, including its rich cultural and natural heritage assets. Since the 2004, Tsunami in Aceh, the government gives serious attention to disaster. In 2007, it stipulated the Law 24/2007 on Disaster Management. It's so unfortunate that cultural heritage is not yet part of main concern during disaster programs. In addition, there are only few experiences in the world about how to deal with the condition of heritage affected by disaster. Heritage organizations in Indonesia aim to raise awareness about disaster risks on cultural heritage. They develop system of damage assessment to cultural heritage or Damage Heritage Rapid Assessment (DHRA) at the time of emergencies. Damage assessment was introduced in Yogyakarta, experienced a lot of damage caused by the massive earthquake in 2006. DHRA has been used in Padang (2009), Yogyakarta (2010), Jakarta (2013) and Manado (2014). This paper aims to explain what DHRA is and how DHRA can contribute to post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction of heritage district.

Cuba's capacity to confront challenging scenarios has been internationally recognised and its health system and ability to respond to complex contexts under an overall principle of equality acknowledged. During the pandemic, however, several crises have challenged Havana's ambitions of equality. COVID-19 coincided with the exponential impacts of the United States blockade and the inequalities created by the processes of economic opening up during the last decade. Acknowledging that Cuban universities, as public institutions, have historically played a key role in engaging with social problems, this paper asks what the role of universities is in the context of COVID-19, what ethical considerations are inherent in this role, and how these can be navigated. Drawing on the experience of an interdisciplinary research project, KNOW-Havana, the article discusses several ethical 'hotspots' or challenges faced by the university while conducting research during the pandemic, around questions of redefining proximity, the politics of time, and the duties of care. We discuss principles to navigate these challenges such as rethinking benefits, risks, relationality, responsibility, commitment, trust, reciprocity, flexibility, and care ethics. These provide insights to rethink what knowledge co-production for equality means in Havana. We conclude by reflecting on their importance for universities in a post-pandemic future.

Currently, there is much debate about the value of assigning homework. Organizations such as the OECD have concluded that doing more homework is not synonymous with better performance. This study was designed to analyze the mediating role of student motivation in the relationship between the involvement of parents and teachers in homework and the engagement of students in these tasks. Seven hundred and thirty students in Compulsory Secondary Education (7th–10th grade) participated from 14 schools in the north of Spain. Three competing models were developed and tested to study motivational mediation: a non-motivational mediation model (direct effects model); a total motivational mediation model (indirect effects model); and a partial motivational mediation model (mixed effects model). The best model was adjusted according to gender and school year variables. The total mediation motivational model demonstrated the best fit (indirect effects model). The results suggest the total mediation of student motivation in the relationship between the perception of parents' and teachers' involvement in homework and student cognitive engagement in these tasks. Some differences, albeit slight, were observed with respect to gender and school year. An attempt is made in this preliminary study to measure the sense of community among employees, and to look at its relationship with the perceived leadership style of the supervisor. The results indicate that nurturant, task-oriented, and participative styles of leadership are positively related to a sense of community among employees.

This study utilized a PEW media consumption survey to gauge specific links between socioeconomic status, online news use, traditional news use, and knowledge of public affairs. The analysis examined whether technological change could add to knowledge differences between social segments. A SEM procedure was conducted to test the assumptions of the knowledge-gap hypothesis. According to the findings, disparities exist between social classes in knowledge of public affairs. Socioeconomic standing strongly influences the choice that different segments of the population make in using traditional and online sources for information. Traditional news consumption mediates the gap-widening effect. Meanwhile, the findings indicated that online news use does not seem to contribute to political knowledge.

Caregiver history of childhood maltreatment can have pervasive effects on familial and household dynamics. Maternal history of child maltreatment (MCM) is linked to maternal depressive symptoms and offspring behavioural problems. Further, maternal and child mental health are associated with chaotic home environments. In this study, we examined the potential mediating roles of maternal depressive symptoms and child behavioural problems in the association between MCM and household chaos. A sample of 133 mother–child dyads participated in home visits during which mothers completed questionnaires measuring their history of child maltreatment, depressive symptoms, household chaos and child behaviour problems. Mothers also conducted videotaped home tours related to household chaos. Structural equation modelling results indicated that MCM was indirectly associated with higher household chaos via elevated maternal depressive symptoms and child externalizing, but not internalizing behaviour problems. Interventions aimed at mitigating the effects of MCM on maternal and child psychopathology may positively influence household dynamics.

This article shows the role accomplished by political alliances between catholic orders and indigenous groups during the Spanish conquest of the Apolobamba high forests. This was an alternative way to set missions positions and power spaces in front of the military State advance. Furthermore, this strategy shows that catholic orders did not form a compact block neither with the State nor with more or less irregular troops which entered to Apolobamba from the middle sixteenth century, as they looked indeed at any moment for their own autonomy based on indigenous consensus. ; Este artículo demuestra el rol que cumplieron en la ocupación española de las selvas de Apolobamba las alianzas políticas entre órdenes religiosas y grupos aborígenes, como modo alternativo de fijar posiciones y espacios de poder frente al avance militar oficial. Esta estrategia demuestra a la vez que las órdenes no formaron un bloque compacto con el estado ni con las tropas más o menos irregulares que penetraron Apolobamba desde mediados del siglo XVI, sino que aspiraron en todo momento a su propia autonomía mediante el logro del consenso indígena.

Teaching is a career with great instances of anxiety and exhaustion in all stages of education with particular difficulties associated with the attribute of language instruction. The notion of motivation might be a significant fundamental mechanism since demotivated educators are distressed due to the anxious feature of the instructing career. Moreover, educators' wellbeing has been demonstrated to have a pivotal function in the path of instruction and learners' success. On the other hand, to mitigate both motivation and wellbeing among teachers, one of the mental traits in this filed, namely, mindfulness can be effective as it is a technique that link to positive effects when used as an administrative strategy for alleviating stress and concern that bring about motivation and wellbeing. As a result, the purpose of the study is to investigate the predictor role of mindfulness on teachers' motivation and wellbeing. In this study, 577 teachers (235 males and 342 females) Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers at different colleges, universities, and institutes in 13 provinces among which Jiangsu and Zhejiang province accounted for 26.69%, while other provinces made up 65.86% and 2 municipalities directly under the central government (Beijing and Chongqing; 7.45%). were kindly accepted to participate in the present study, and they answered the three questionnaires, namely, motivation, mindfulness, and wellbeing. The results of the study through a linear regression analysis indicated that teachers' mindfulness could significantly predict both teachers' wellbeing and motivation. According to the results, some pedagogical suggestions for the policymakers, educator trainers, materials developers, and language educators are offered. Ultimately, guidance for further studies is proposed to L2 scholars who are interested.

PurposeThis article sought to explore the effect of brand origin on consumer preference and examine the moderating effects of decision focus (buying for self vs buying for others) and product quality.Design/methodology/approachThe authors conducted two studies to test our hypotheses. In Study 1, the authors explored consumers' general preferences for domestic and foreign brands. Based on the evidence, Study 2 further explored the moderating roles of decision focus and product quality.FindingsIn general, consumers in developing countries prefer foreign brands. The effect can be moderated by the decision focus that this preference will be more obvious when consumers buy for others than when they buy for themselves. Product quality can also moderate the role of decision focus; in other words, consumers' preference for foreign brand when buying for others will be stronger when the product quality is low than when the product quality is high.Practical implicationsForeign brands have a natural appeal to local consumers in developing countries. Moreover, foreign brands can also invoke consumers' awareness of buying for others (such as giving gifts) to boost sales. Domestic brands are at a disadvantage comparing to foreign brands, but they can increase their attractiveness by invoking consumers' awareness of rewarding themselves. In addition, domestic brands need to improve product quality to fundamentally improve their competitiveness.Originality/valueThe research contributed to literature by combining decision focus and product quality in studying consumer preference for domestic and foreign brands from the perspective of construal level theory, which provides valuable insights in the field of international marketing and consumer behavior.

AbstractThe family is often described as the foundation of Latino immigrant communities. Scholars interested in the political activism of Latino immigrants in the United States have consequently sought to examine the relationship between the family and recruitment to social movement participation. Overall, this research focuses on how the family can promote Latinos' political activism. However, less is known about the conditions under which the family may hinder activism. Family dynamics may be particularly demobilizing for certain segments of the Latino population with liminal or undocumented status. This article reviews two groups of the recent literature on Latino political mobilization: (a) social networks; and (b) collective action frames. By drawing on insights from social movement theory, the article concludes by arguing for more research that theorizes on the family as a group identity, powerfully enabling, and constraining Latino movement participation.

The process of economic globalization in the last two decades has transformed the production, social and political world map. One of the largest impacts on Latin America is seen in the transformations in the structure and functions of national and subnational states. In Argentina after the devaluation the arrival of foreign direct investment is accelerated that get tax breaks and state subsidies of magnitude. The significant expansion of the transnational call centers (CCs) activity and rapidly mass located in major Argentine cities in recent years account for these phenomena and let address these transformations of the state agencies, because it makes visible the regulation role of economic activities in the territories. This paper focuses on the role and actions of the provinces states from a sociological perspective, we systematize and describe the laws, decrees and agreements designed to attract CCs companies and analyzes parliamentary debates that frame and give meaning to such concessions. This view will visualize mechanisms of cooperation and / or conflict through which local and foreign actors shape the global integration into the local.
