This book examines some of the major and most commonly used methods and statistics necessary for social science research. It is meant primarily for the beginners, and hence does not require any prior training in research methodology or statistics. The methods discussed include aggregate data analysis, the method of survey research, experimental and quasi-experimental research designs, participant observation, content analysis, and focus groups study. In a separate chapter the issue of quantitative and qualitative research methods and their uses has been discussed. An attempt has been made to assess these methods especially from the point of view of their adoption and application by social scientists working in the developing economies.

This work exposes a panorama about the main theoretical-methodological issues of Political Science in times of postmodernity. In particular, he describes and comments on the debate generated around a text by Giovanni Sartori entitled "Where is Political Science going?". The axes of academic dialogue, which were developed in the pages of the magazines Política y Gobierno and Metapolítica, are the inputs chosen to reproduce the scope of this transcendental discussion in the politologica field. "This volume brings together reflections on citizenship, political violence, race, ethnicity and gender, by some of the most critical voices of our times. Detailed and wide-ranging individual reflections, take the writings of prominent Ugandan political theorist Mahmood Mamdani as a touchstone for thinking about the world from Africa. Contributors apply this theory to argue that we cannot make sense of the political contentions of difference, identity and citizenship today without understanding the legacies of colonial rule on our world. Chapters examine the persistence of the past, and how we must reckon with its tragedies, its injustices, and its utopias in order to chart a new politics; the politics of possible futures that are more inclusive and more egalitarian, and that can think of difference in more equitable ways. In a time when the call to decolonize knowledge, and politics rings loud and clear, this is both a timely and a crucial intervention"--

The central thesis of this essay is that The Bell Curve must be situated in the context of right-wing ideology, a changing political economy, and intellectual racism. I contend that the interplay between those who focus their research on the so-called genetic inferiority of some groups and the resultant policy recommendations coming from such arguments must be viewed in the context of racial stratification, gender inequality, class exploitation, and public discourse on who is intellectually able and who is not. Moreover, I contend that changes in cultural meanings and practices about intelligence are heavily constructed through racist science. That is, The Bell Curve is not simply another social science research tract but reflects the politics and ideological imperatives of intellectual racism. Given this, I attempt to move the discussion from a mild intellectual exchange about the "issues" of The Bell Curve to situating this work in social, political, and economic context. The Bell Curve is the latest expression of deeply rooted notions of superiority and inferiority in Western discourses on intelligence. Thus I employ a critical sociology of knowledge framework with an eye on generating a progressive counterresponse to the public reemergence of the intellectual racism expressed in The Bell Curve.

AbstractIndigenous scholars have much to teach political scientists about recognizing and addressing the ways in which power, politics, and colonialism irrevocably shape the data-generating process. In this article, we present a methodological framework for a decolonial quantitative political science, outlining how it was operationalized in the design and execution of the 2019 Native Hawaiian Survey. We demonstrate the utility of this methodological framework through a descriptive analysis of Native Hawaiian respondents' self-identification. Aligned with the theoretical insights of kanaka (Native Hawaiian) scholars, we provide empirical support for the intertwined political relationship between Native Hawaiian identity and national identity––a finding that demands further empirical study among all Indigenous populations. This article offers two main contributions. First, it provides a methodological framework to guide quantitative political science research on Indigenous populations. Second, it adds empirically to the growing literature on Indigenous self-identification.
In Germany equal opportunity policy has been conducted from the beginning by forms of regulation, which are currently the subject of governance research. Feminist political science can thus offer important answers to the core questions of this new research perspective. By drawing on the main results of feminist research, the authors first clarify the boundaries of governance in the areas law, the economy, and social policy. Specifically, the diversity of forms and modes of governance will be illustrated for policies concerning wage equality, equality in childcare, and in administrative policy. In the conclusion the authors address the synergetic effects and the common concerns of feminist political science and governance research.
