A search for diphoton events with large missing transverse momentum has been performed using 1.07 fb−11.07 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data at View the MathML sources=7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. No excess of events was observed above the Standard Model prediction and 95% Confidence Level (CL) upper limits are set on the production cross section for new physics. The limits depend on each model parameter space and vary as follows: σ<(22–129) fbσ<(22–129) fb in the context of a generalised model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (GGM) with a bino-like lightest neutralino, σ<(27–91) fbσ<(27–91) fb in the context of a minimal model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (SPS8), and σ<(15–27) fbσ<(15–27) fb in the context of a specific model with one universal extra dimension (UED). A 95% CL lower limit of 805 GeV805 GeV, for bino masses above 50 GeV, is set on the GGM gluino mass. Lower limits of 145 TeV145 TeV and 1.23 TeV1.23 TeV are set on the SPS8 breaking scale Λ and on the UED compactification scale 1/R1/R, respectively. A measurement is presented of the cross section for the production of a W boson with one or two jets, of which at least one must be a b-jet, in pp collisions at View the MathML sources=7 TeV. Production via top decay is not included in the signal definition. The measurement is based on 35 pb−135 pb−1 of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The W+bW+b-jet cross section is defined for jets reconstructed with the anti-ktkt clustering algorithm with transverse momentum above 25 GeV and rapidity within ±2.1. The b-jets are identified by reconstructing secondary vertices. The fiducial cross section is measured both for the electron and muon decay channel of the W boson and is found to be 10.2±1.9(stat)±2.6(syst) pb10.2±1.9(stat)±2.6(syst) pb for one lepton flavour. A combined search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC using datasets corresponding to integrated luminosities from 1.04 fb−1 to 4.9 fb−1 of pp collisions collected at View the MathML sources=7 TeV is presented. The Higgs boson mass ranges 112.9–115.5 GeV, 131–238 GeV and 251–466 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level (CL), while the range 124–519 GeV is expected to be excluded in the absence of a signal. An excess of events is observed around mH∼126 GeVmH∼126 GeV with a local significance of 3.5 standard deviations (σ ). The local significances of H→γγH→γγ, View the MathML sourceH→ZZ(⁎)→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− and View the MathML sourceH→WW(⁎)→ℓ+νℓ′−ν¯, the three most sensitive channels in this mass range, are 2.8σ, 2.1σ and 1.4σ , respectively. This Letter presents evidence for the associated production of a W boson and a top quark using 2.05 fb−12.05 fb−1 of pp collision data at View the MathML sources=7TeV accumulated with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on the selection of the dileptonic final states with events featuring two isolated leptons, electron or muon, with significant transverse missing momentum and at least one jet. An approach based on boosted decision trees has been developed to improve the discrimination of single top-quark Wt events from background. A template fit to the final classifier distributions is performed to determine the cross-section. The result is incompatible with the background-only hypothesis at the 3.3σ level, the expected sensitivity assuming the Standard Model production rate being 3.4σ . The corresponding cross-section is determined and found to be σWt=16.8±2.9 (stat)±4.9 (syst) pbσWt=16.8±2.9 (stat)±4.9 (syst) pb, in good agreement with the Standard Model expectation. This Letter presents a search for singly produced vector-like quarks, Q, coupling to light quarks, q . The search is sensitive to both charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) processes, pp→Qq→Wqq′pp→Qq→Wqq′ and pp→Qq→Zqq′pp→Qq→Zqq′ with a leptonic decay of the vector gauge boson. In 1.04 fb−11.04 fb−1 of data taken in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy View the MathML sources=7 TeV, no evidence of such heavy vector-like quarks is observed above the expected Standard Model background. Limits on the heavy vector-like quark production cross section times branching ratio as a function of mass mQmQ are obtained. A search for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson decaying via View the MathML sourceH→ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−qq¯, where ℓ=eℓ=e or μ, is presented. The search uses a data set of pp collisions at View the MathML sources=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−14.7 fb−1 collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC. No significant excess of events above the estimated background is found. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the production cross section of a Higgs boson with a mass in the range between 200 and 600 GeV600 GeV are derived. A Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass in the range 300 GeV⩽mH⩽322 GeV300 GeV⩽mH⩽322 GeV or 353 GeV⩽mH⩽410 GeV353 GeV⩽mH⩽410 GeV is excluded at 95% CL. A search is presented for same-sign top-quark production and down-type heavy quarks of charge −1/3 in events with two isolated leptons (e or μ) that have the same electric charge, at least two jets and large missing transverse momentum. The data are selected from pp collisions at √s=7TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.04 fb−1. The observed data are consistent with expectations from Standard Model processes. Upper limits are set at 95 % confidence level on the cross section of new sources of same-sign top-quark pair production of 1.4-2.0 pb depending on the assumed mediator mass. An inclusive search for anomalous production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.6 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Muon pairs are selected by requiring two isolated muons of the same electric charge with pT>20 GeV and |η|<2.5. Minimal requirements are placed on the rest of the event activity. The distribution of the invariant mass of the muon pair m(μμ) is found to agree well with the background expectation. Upper limits on the cross section for anomalous production of two muons with the same electric charge are placed as a function of m(μμ) within a fiducial region defined by the event selection. The fiducial cross-section limit constrains the like-sign top-quark pair-production cross section to be below 3.7 pb at 95% confidence level. The data are also analyzed to search for a narrow like-sign dimuon resonance as predicted for e.g. doubly charged Higgs bosons (H±±). Assuming pair production of H±± bosons and a branching ratio to muons of 100% (33%), this analysis excludes masses below 355 (244) GeV and 251 (209) GeV for H±± bosons coupling to left-handed and right-handed fermions, respectively. ; We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently. A search for direct pair production of supersymmetric top squarks (˜t1) is presented, assuming the ˜t1 decays into a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle, ˜χ01, and that both top quarks decay to purely hadronic final states. A total of 16 (4) events are observed compared to a predicted standard model background of 13.5+3.7−3.6(4.4+1.7−1.3) events in two signal regions based on ∫Ldt=4.7 fb−1 of pp collision data taken at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. A search is presented for direct top squark pair production in final states with one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV. The measurement is based on 4.7 fb−1 of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Each top squark is assumed to decay to a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). The data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. A QCD analysis is reported of ATLAS data on inclusive W± and Z boson production in pp collisions at the LHC, jointly with ep deep-inelastic scattering data from HERA. The ATLAS data exhibit sensitivity to the light quark sea composition and magnitude at Bjorken x∼0.01. Specifically, the data support the hypothesis of a symmetric composition of the light quark sea at low x. This Letter presents a search for tb resonances in 1.04 fb−1 of LHC proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. Events with a lepton, missing transverse momentum, and two jets are selected and the invariant mass of the corresponding final state is reconstructed. The search exploits the shape of the tb invariant mass distribution compared to the expected standard model backgrounds. The model of a right-handed W′R with standard model-like couplings is chosen as the benchmark model for this search. No statistically significant excess of events is observed in the data, and upper limits on the cross section times the branching ratio of W′R resonances at 95% C.L. lie in the range of 6.1–1.0 pb for W′R masses ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 TeV. These limits are translated into a lower bound on the allowed right-handed W′R mass, giving mW′R>1.13 TeV at 95% C.L. ; We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently. The results of a search for pair production of the scalar partners of bottom quarks in 2.05 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using the ATLAS experiment are reported. Scalar bottom quarks are searched for in events with large missing transverse momentum and two jets in the final state, where both jets are identified as originating from a bottom quark. In an R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario, assuming that the scalar bottom quark decays exclusively into a bottom quark and a neutralino, 95% confidence-level upper limits are obtained in the ˜b1−˜χ01 mass plane such that for neutralino masses below 60 GeV scalar bottom masses up to 390 GeV are excluded. ; We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently. The χb(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at √s=7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb−1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Υ(1S,2S) with Υ→μ+μ−. In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes χb(1P,2P)→Υ(1S)γ, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530±0.005(stat)±0.009(syst) GeV is also observed, in both the Υ(1S)γ and Υ(2S)γ decay modes. A search for the decay of a light Higgs boson (120–140 GeV) to a pair of weakly interacting, long-lived particles in 1.94 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV recorded in 2011 by the ATLAS detector is presented. The search strategy requires that both long-lived particles decay inside the muon spectrometer. No excess of events is observed above the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production times branching ratio to weakly interacting, long-lived particles are derived as a function of the particle proper decay length. ; We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently.
