The ruling democratic-Christian coalition in the Federal Republic of Germany, the CDU/CSU (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Democratic Union of Bavaria), has had a delayed reaction to the activities of extreme right-wing parties. Over 1990-1992, after numerous terrorist incidents, the German government prohibited various extreme right-wing groups (eg, the Nationalist Front, the National Offensive, etc), but did not prohibit the Republican party, even with its clear ties to neo-Nazis. This group maintains a network of international connections to extreme Right & neofascist organizations, & has defended xenophobic & racist propaganda. The case is built that the government has not acted against the Republican party in order to manipulate public opinion. In contrast to their responses to left-wing violence, the CDU/CSU reaction to right-wing violence propagated by the Republican party has been ambiguous; this may be because the coalition, especially the right-wing of the CDU, is close to the Republican party on positions regarding interior security & immigration. It is recommended that more effective prohibitions against the extreme right-wing & more protection of immigrants' rights in Germany be instituted. 11 References. M. Pflum

This essay presents the case of the German writer Hanns Heinz Ewers (1871-1943) who, before World War I, was the most translated author of his country. Through his prose one can find many ingredients (the macabre, the gothic, the fantastic, the cruel) that made him a great representative of the dark German imagination, from Romanticism to XX century. Unfortunately, his late participation in the Nazi movement affected his reputation (as in the case of Jünger, in Germany, or Céline, in France), but it's time to review his literary work, beyond his political thought, that changed from the cosmopolitism in the first decades of XX century (when hereached great success) to nationalism (in his last years). His participation in the Expressionist German Cinema with The Student of Prague (1914) and some adaptions of his stories (Alraune or Mandragore, for example) were another important aspect of his career.
