One of a series of regular features in the Publ. Opin. Quart., which summarizes nat'ly-asked poll findings in the US from the first days of sci'fic PO polling, 1936, to date. It presents the actual questions & previously published statistics on various available topics with a minimum of introductory text. This particular issue consists of questions which inquire into the extent & accuracy of the US public's information on noncurrent topics, largely of a textbook nature. The subjects are actually the residue after knowledge of current affairs had been summarized in an earlier issue. Topics included are literature, music, art, history, spelling, geography, civics, religious, & general cultural information. Findings from other countries are included only when comparable to available US data. Survey results from the Gallup Poll (Amer Instit of PO), its affiliates in GB & Canada, & the Nat'l Opinion Res Center are included in this particular release. AA.
Are management textbooks propaganda? Do textbook authors write to advance the interests of a particular group or groups (such as employees, organizations, and/or society)? Do they write to present the theory and research of the academic discipline? Do they write primarily to produce a product that consumers (faculty and students) will buy in sufficient numbers and at a price that will yield financial profit? This article explores these and related questions by asking four well-established management textbook authors—Kim Cameron, Duane Ireland, Bob Lussier, and Steve Robbins—to react to the metaphor of "management textbooks as propaganda or ideology." Their responses provide insights into the role of textbook authors in shaping the direction of management education.

This paper analyses the way in which Dr Franjo Tuđman is depicted in the textbooks used in Croatian schools. The author concludes that while some basic biographical data are provided, with respect to his contribution as a statesman some authors are prone to politicization and even self-censorship, the intention of which is to diminish his contribution to the history of the Croatian people. In educational systems without comprehensive systems for regulating textbooks, teachers can exert considerable influence on the use of textbooks. However, existing research has not yet identified the mechanisms of this use. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to examine and explain teachers' strategic use of textbooks. I administered a questionnaire to 313 Swedish teachers of years four to twelve (for pupils of ten to eighteen years of age). The results demonstrate a pathway between reading practices and strategic textbook use, mediated by textbook satisfaction. Pupils' reading needs had a negative impact on strategic textbook use. Finally, teachers' experience had a positive impact on reading practices but no effect on strategic textbook use.
