Every theory is meant to satisfy a purpose. This is germane in social sciences where globalised theories are, in most cases environmentally determined. Theorists in social sciences in their attempts to globalise their paradigms and models usually underplay the impacts of culture, religion and political differences. In their bid to quantify behavioural sciences, some of the variables they usually hold constant contributed to economic crisis; forgetting that human behaviour is beyond mathematical calculation. Undemocratic application of globalisation concept as emanated in the undemocratic principles of voting, lack of transparency and accountability, as well as poor/underrepresentation of less developed states in various international (financial) organisations violates the basic tenets of democratic rights, global social justice and international sovereign equality. The same impacted on plethora of theories in social sciences only meant to maintain the current status quo despite their crises as shown in the 2008 economic implosion.

THE DOMESTIC & INTERNATIONAL WEAKNESS OF THIRD WORLD STATES HAS MADE THEM EXCEPTIONALLY VULNERABLE TO PRESSURES EMANATING FROM THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM. THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO AMELIORATE THESE PRESSURES BY TRANSFORMING INTERNATIONAL REGIMES.

Positions taken by delegations in the U.N. General Assembly during debates of the Sixth and Seventh Special Sessions are analyzed to determine clustering on economic issues and their sources. Third-World states took positions consistently distinct from those of Eastern and Western countries, and economic attributes appear to explain this. Differences within the Third World were not consistent, however, and were more apparent in the Seventh Special Session. Divisions found between Third-World states on issues such as resource allocations and monetary reform included: states with slow versus fast economic growth rates; states dependent on Western versus Eastern aid; and regional differences. Neither OPEC nor a "fourth world" appeared distinct from the Third World as a whole. Coalitions, varying by issue, appeared to overlap to build the Third-World "bloc."

Although the analysis which follows centres upon the West African state of Mali, much of what is said applies in varying measure to other examples of military state capitalism in Africa and elsewhere. Its importance is underscored by the fact that this is an increasingly common régime variant in the Third World. Similarly, domestic militarism has been transformed from an unusual occurrence to a phenomenon which evokes little more than a déjà vu response. Today nearly half of the governments of the 'South' are directly or indirectly dominated by the military, whereas three decades ago little more than 15 per cent could be so classified.

THE THIRD WORLD HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT IN THE FIRST WORLD. HOWEVER, TODAY IN THE UNITED STATES WE SEE A REALIGNMENT OF THE THIRD WORLD IN THE FIRST WORLD: A LINGERING APARTHEID IS MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GROWING UNDERCLASS THAN ANY OTHER FACTOR. THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES HOW WE DIVIDE UP THE WORLD AND EXPLORES THE CONDITIONS IN U.S. INNER CITIES. IT SUGGESTS THAT OUR MORALITY HAS DISAPPEARED AND THAT OUR EXCESSIVE INDIVIDUALISM MAKES ALL OF US OUT FOR OURSELVES. IN THE END, HOWEVER, WE CANNOT LIVE BY OURSELVES.
