Social Work is a cautionary tale of what happens to a journal when it accedes to pressure for a professionally comforting publication. Pardeck and Meinert's (1999) data make a strong case for dropping Social Work from the Social Science Citation Index and accepting it on its own merits: A membership association's glorification of itself.
Статья посвящена Процессу Боевой Организации партии эсеров, проходившему с 18 по 25 февраля 1904 г. и ставшему заметным явлением общественной жизни России начала XX в. За его ходом с напряженным вниманием следили власти, включая членов императорской фамилии и самого Николая II, консерваторы, либералы и революционеры.Анализируется поведение лидеров и рядовых членов Боевой Организации партии социалистов-революционеров на следствии, во время суда и после вынесения приговора. Показано, что от дачи показаний на допросах отказалось меньшинство привлеченных к процессу террористов, большинство, в их числе Г.А. Гершуни, и во время следствия, и на суде отрицали свою причастность к Боевой Организации; все подсудимые отказались от заключительного слова. Почти все осужденные по процессу подавали прошение о помиловании как сразу после оглашения приговора, так и во время отбывания наказания. Все это во многом не соответствовало прокламируемому кодексу поведения революционера на суде. ; The article is devoted to the Process of SR CombatOrganization which was held since 18 up to 25 February, 1904and which become a prominent event in the public life of Russiaof the beginning of the XX century. For its progress the authoritiesincluding imperiality and Nikolai II himself, conservatives, liberalsand revolutionaries followed with strained attention.The article analyzes the behavior of the leaders and members ofSR Combat Organization under investigation, during the trial andafter the verdict. It is shown that to testify during interrogation refusedthe minority of the involved in the process of the terrorists, themajority, including G.A. Gershuni, and during the investigation andin court denied his involvement in the military organization; all thedefendants refused the final word. Almost all prisoners on the processpetitioned for a pardon as soon as the verdict was announced, as well as serving their sentences. All this is largely not in line proclaimed bythe Code of Conduct of the revolutionary at court.
Since the 1950s, the US has become obsessed with its own consumer culture. Even experiences, such as prison life, have been commodified. People will pay to spend a weekend at the Academy in Alpharetta, GA, an institution that sells "the prison experience." Prison clothing has long been a hot fashion item among the rapper set, while several chambers of commerce have marketed their state's prisons as "must see" tourist destinations. By turning prison life into pop culture, mass imprisonment has become acceptable, & it is difficult for at-risk youth to understand that prisons are not hotels or amusement parks. If the US is to decrease (rather than continue to increase) its prison population, the welfare system must be drastically reformed & the commodification of prison life must come to an end. K. A. ccording to the Section 1 of the Council of European Union Framework Decision 2008/913/JHA on combating certain forms and expressions of racism and xenophobia by means of criminal law, each Member State shall take the measures necessary to ensure that the following intentional conduct is punishable: publicly condoning, denying or grossly trivialising crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Section 74.1 ―Acquittal of Genocide, Crime against Humanity‖ of the Criminal Law provides for liability in the public glorification of genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime or glorification, denial, acquittal or gross trivialisation of committed genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime, including genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime committed by the U.S.S.R. or Nazi Germany against the Republic of Latvia and its inhabitants. The article aims to initiate a debate on potential problems related to the application of the Section 74.1 ―Acquittal of Genocide, Crime against Humanity‖ of the Criminal Law. The author offers his vision of the regulatory framework application problems.

In the three main Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden), extreme and populist straight lines bring together parties and groups that are particularly diverse in their form and claims. Although there is a common ideological basis (patriotism, traditionalism, xenophobia, etc.), the glorification of national history is a recurring feature of their political discourse. The figure of the Viking here is a central place, although its representation and ideological function may vary from one movement to another. Based on the statements and publications of their actors, we will try to look at the relationship between myth viking and the definition of a national identity in these political trends, as well as its different manifestations. ; International audience In the three main Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden), populist and extremist right-wing movements gather diversified parties and groups in their form and their claims. They may be characterized by a common ideological basis (patriotism, traditionalism, xenophobia.), but we can also state that the glorification of national history constitutes a recurring element of their political discourse. The figure of the Viking has thus a central place, although its representation and its ideological function may differ from a movement to another. National identification consistently predicts attitudes within and between groups. Research indicating that threat perceptions often lead to compliance with ingroup authorities suggests that heightened threat perceptions may contribute to stronger submissive national identification. However, the impact of feeling safe on a more critical (in contrast to submissive) sense of national identification remains largely unexplored. Drawing on social safety theory and attachment theory, the present investigation examined whether individual differences in feeling of safety relate to increased critical and submissive/blind forms of national identification. Studies 1A–1B and 2A–2B utilized nationally representative data from large cross-national surveys, finding that greater perceived safety related to increased pride in, emotional attachment to, and closeness to one's nation. In Studies 3–5, we found that feeling safe in daily life and believing that one is capable of protecting oneself relate to more ingroup attachment and glorification. Notably, the association for feeling of safety and ingroup attachment was larger than that for ingroup glorification. This investigation offers consistent evidence for a positive association between how safe people feel and national identification, highlighting that more research is needed to better understand how feeling of safety could influence intergroup processes.
Abstract. Background: Relatively little is known regarding the relationship between attitudes toward suicide, suicide attempt (SA) history, and future suicidal behaviors. Aims: Utilizing a sample of firefighters, this study compared attitudes toward suicide between individuals with/without a career SA history and evaluated whether certain attitudes toward suicide are associated with a greater self-reported likelihood of making a future SA. Method: US firefighters ( N = 818) completed self-report measures. One-way ANOVAs and linear regression analyses were utilized to address study aims. Results: Firefighters with a career SA reported significantly greater normalization/glorification of suicide – yet lower attributions of suicide to isolation/depression – than those without this history. More stigmatizing attitudes toward suicide and greater normalization/glorification of suicide were each significantly associated with greater self-reported future SA likelihood. Limitations: Data were cross-sectional and findings may not be generalizable. Conclusion: Firefighters who have made an SA during their firefighting careers may normalize and glorify suicide more than those who have not. These attitudes may be associated with greater self-perceived risk for future SAs. Research is needed to replicate findings and evaluate strategies for targeting potentially harmful beliefs about suicide among SA survivors.

Offering a thoughtful consideration of the everyday in modernist literature and art, Ella Ophir (University of Toronto) situates modernist literature in a 'long and broad aesthetic trend' beginning with the Romantic glorification of the commonplace. Suggesting that everyday objects, exchanges and actions function beyond the concept of 'defamiliarization', Ophir reframes modernism's engagement with the quotidian to include 'the reclamation of undistinguished life, the constitution of character and the representation of consciousness and temporality'.
This classic study of Europe in the 1920s resonates today. It examines how intellectuals abandoned their attachment to the traditional philosophical and scholarly ideals. It also describes the attack on the Enlightenment ideal of universal humanity and the concomitant glorification of various ideologies, as intellectuals betrayed their unique role in society. The implications for intellectual life today are transparent, and this long unavailable classic of European thought should interest all those who teach and who preach human sciences

The article analyzes the conceptual changes in historiographical approaches to the phenomenon of the West Ukrainian People's Republic (the ZUNR), whose centenary is celebrated in 2018. Historiographical sources provide clear evidence of the change in the analytical paradigm: shifting from glorification or a downright defamation to a careful examination of the ZUNR's achievements and failures; investigating the least-studied aspects of its activity; establishing the role and place of the ZUNR in the history of Ukrainian state building.
