The category of a national interest is one of the most popular notions used in international relations. It has a polysemic character and is differently interpreted by various scientific perspectives. The purpose of this article is to provide a brief analysis of selected approaches of the theory of international relations to defining interests and correlating the interpretations of national interests of the Russian Federation performed on their bases. The choice of case study concerning the foreign policy of the Russian Federation is not accidental because in countries aspiring to gain world power the concept of national interest is raised while explaining the motives of decisions taken by their leaders exceptionally often. In this article, Russia's interests will be discussed in reference to the annexation of the Crimea and Russia's actions towards Ukraine. Those events vividly show the specificity of defining the national interests, based on one hand on the pursue to being a powerhouse and understanding the interests in the category of power and, on the other hand, resulting from the political identity of Russian elites. 'Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung sind die in der Literatur zu findenden Gegensätze, die man den Disziplinen Politik- und Geschichtswissenschaft idealtypisch zuschreibt. Demnach existiere eine große Kluft zwischen den beiden Fächern. Der Artikel untersucht zunächst die spezifischen Gegenstände und methodologischen Besonderheiten wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens in beiden Disziplinen. Es wird argumentiert, dass die zu findenden Charakteristika nicht fundamentaler Natur sind. Trotzdem ist die gegenseitige Rezeption nur gering ausgeprägt. Historische Arbeiten werden in der Politikwissenschaft (wenn überhaupt) nur zur Überprüfung empirischer Sachverhalte genutzt, sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien nur in seltenen Fällen systematisch in historischen Studien verwendet. Historische Analysen leisten jedoch mehr als eine Erweiterung der Datenbasis; sie lenken den Blick auf Phänomene, für deren Erklärung eine klare Prozessorientierung notwendig ist. Eine rein synchron ausgerichtete Politikwissenschaft verschließt sich systematisch Erkenntnismöglichkeiten, die erst durch eine historische Perspektive sichtbar werden. Umgekehrt systematisiert eine theoretische Orientierung historisches Arbeiten und macht deren Ergebnisse anschlussfähig für die Sozialwissenschaften.' (Autorenreferat)

En las últimas décadas las ciencias sociales se han visto deconstruidas por diferentes corrientes de pensamiento crítico que buscan analizar el sistema mundo actual, la política global y las relaciones sociales desde paradigmas y epistemologías otras que sirvan para interpretar las diferentes temporalidades y localidades del poder y del conocimiento. Una de las corrientes más novedosas es el llamado pensamiento decolonial. Esta propuesta surge dentro del debate crítico en las ciencias sociales, originalmente en las áreas de Sociología, Historia y Economía Política, y más recientemente en la disciplina de las Relaciones Internacionales. El pensamiento decolonial se plantea como crítico de las ya establecidas teorías poscoloniales. Es impulsado desde América Latina por el proyecto conocido como modernidad/colonialidad/decolonialidad, que nos invita a cuestionar la modernidad europea desde la reflexión de su antítesis, la colonialidad en América, y los efectos que la colonialidad del poder, del saber, y del ser, han tenido sobre el sujeto colonial global. Ukraine's decision to drop non-aligned status was done as the result of a growing understanding of an urgent need to find more effective means to protect the state from external aggression. One of the main means is integration into powerful intergovernmental institutions, primarily, to European and Euro-Atlantic ones. Thus, acquiring membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is now among the priorities of Ukraine's foreign policy. In the process of growing global interdependence, alliances gradually become the main form of international cooperation. At the same time, they are increasingly associated with the emergence and spread of wars and conflicts, as well as their prevention. Under the difficult conditions of international interaction, numerous threats to the existence of state, the implementation of state's foresightful foreign policy depends on the adequacy of understanding of the nature of cooperation and conflict in relations between states by state's leadership. Therefore, it is vital to expand and deepen the knowledge about the peculiarities of the formation and functioning of alliances, and the behavior of their participants while contacting each other. The concept of alliances lies at the core of the theory of international relations, since alliances can be considered as a means of implementing the foreign policy of the state, and at the same time as vivid indicators for the implementation of mutual obligations by states. The article deals with the key theoretical contributions on conceptualization of the international alliances as one of the main forms of intergovernmental cooperation. The author provides a general overview of academic papers on alliance theory and uncover the main peculiarities of the periods of research on alliance in political science during and after the Cold War. The article discusses main approaches of the international relations theory to the definition of alliances, as well as the prevailing typologies of alliances. ; Отказ Украины от внеблокового статуса стал результатом осознания безотлагательности поиска более эффективных средств защиты государства от внешней агрессии. Одним из основных таких средств является интеграция в мощные государственные объединения, прежде всего, в европейские и евроатлантические структуры. Таким образом, в настоящее время получение членства в Европейских Содружествах и Организации Североатлантического договора (НАТО) является одной из приоритетных задач внешней политики Украины. В процессе возрастания взаимозависимости мира альянсы постепенно становятся основной формой международного сотрудничества. В то же время они все больше ассоциируются с возникновением и распространением войн и конфликтов, а также с их предотвращением. В сложных условиях международных взаимодействий, существования многочисленных угроз для существования государства осуществление им продуманной внешней политики зависит от адекватного понимания его руководством природы сотрудничества и конфликтности в отношениях между государствами. Поэтому является насущной потребностью расширение и углубление знаний об особенностях создания и функционирования альянсов, а также поведении их участников в процессе контактов между ними. Концепт альянсов занимает центральное место в теории международных отношений, поскольку альянсы могут рассматриваться как средства реализации внешней политики государства, и одновременно как наглядные индикаторы выполнения государствами взаимных обязательств. Рассмотрены ключевые теоретические наработки в области концептуализации международных альянсов как одной из главных форм межгосударственного сотрудничества. Приведены основные научные труды по проблематике альянсов, раскрыты особенности периодов исследования альянсов в политической науке – во время и после окончания «холодной войны». Охарактеризованы наиболее используемые в теории международных отношений подходы к определению альянсов, а также наиболее распространенные типологии альянсов. ; Відмова України від позаблокового статусу стала результатом усвідомлення нагальності пошуку більш ефективних засобів із захисту держави від зовнішньої агресії. Одним із основних таких засобів є інтеграція до потужних державних об'єднань, передусім, до європейських та євроатлантичних структур. Таким чином, наразі завдання з набуття членства в Європейських Співтовариствах та Організації Північноатлантичного договору (НАТО) посідають чільне місце серед пріоритетів зовнішньої політики України. У процесі зростання взаємозалежності світу альянси поступово стають основною формою міжнародного співробітництва. Водночас вони все більше асоціюються з виникненням і поширенням воєн і конфліктів, а також із запобіганням ним. За складних умов міжнародних взаємодій, існування численних загроз для існування держави здійснення нею розважливої зовнішньої політики залежить від адекватного розуміння її керівництвом природи співпраці і конфліктності у відносинах між державами. Тому є нагальним розширення і поглиблення знань щодо особливостей утворення і функціонування альянсів, та поведінки їхніх учасників у процесі контактів між ними. Концепт альянсів займає центральне місце в теорії міжнародних відносин, оскільки альянси можуть розглядатися як засоби реалізації зовнішньої політики держави, і водночас як наочні індикатори виконання державами взаємних зобов'язань. Розглянуто ключові теоретичні доробки з концептуалізації міжнародних альянсів як однієї з головних форм міждержавного співробітництва. Наведено основні наукові праці з проблематики альянсів та розкрито особливості періодів дослідження альянсів у політичній науці – під час та після закінчення «холодної війни». Охарактеризовано найбільш вживані підходи до визначення альянсів у теорії міжнародних відносин, а також найбільш поширені типології альянсів.
Why has constructivism emerged as an important force in the field of international relations and politics in the end of the 20th century? Why constructivism and not any other theoretical approach? The constructivist perspective of international relations appeared as a counterbalance to rationalism that was entrenched in US Political Science throughout the last decades. Analyzing the contemporary state of world affairs through the prism of social constructivism provides us with a unique understanding of how intersubjective perceptions lead to unique epistemic interpretations of reality, which form the ideological framework within which social constructs are being generated. Constructivism succeeds not only in identifying the motives behind the behavior of international actors, but also in unfolding the mechanism through which those motives are being envisaged and accepted through the process of social construction – here lies the greatest value of the constructivist approach in IR theory. Culture formation, nation building, imagined communities, security complexes – the constructivist approach remains an invaluable tool in the arsenal of political analysts, seeking to understand how culture, history, social order, religion, and language project their infl uence on the international arena and ultimately: why international players behave the way they do? ; Почему конструктивизм возник в качестве влиятельной силы силы в области международных отношений и политики в конце XX века? Почему именно конструктивизм, а не любой другой теоретический подход? Конструктивистская перспектива международных отношений появилась в качестве противовеса к рационализму, который закрепился в политической науке США на протяжении последних десятилетий. Анализ современного склада мировых дел через призму социального конструктивизма дает нам уникальное понимание того, как интерсубъективные восприятия приводят к уникальным эпистемическими интерпретациям реальности, которые формируют идеологические рамки, в пределах которых генерируются социальные конструкты. Конструктивизм является ценным не только в определении мотивов поведения международных игроков, но и разворачивании механизма, посредством которого эти мотивы были созданы и приняты через процесс социального строительства – здесь лежит наибольшее значение конструктивистского подхода в теории МО. Формирование культуры, формирование национального самосознания, воображаемые сообщества, комплексы безопасности – конструктивистский подход остается бесценным инструментом в арсенале политических аналитиков, которые стремятся понять, как культура, история, общественный строй, религия, и язык, проецируют их влияние на международной арене, и в итоге: почему международные игроки ведут себя именно так, как они себя ведут?
