This article discusses the epidemiological indices of COVID-19 infection and mortality in Brazil, as well as the responses of the public health authorities, based on an analysis of the structural relationship between capitalism, colonialism, and racism. The economic, social, and political reflexes manifested in the pandemic crisis must be situated in Brazil's 'colonial path of capitalist concretization'. Racism was and remains the element without which the peculiarities of capitalism in Brazil cannot be understood. It is argued that colonial path of Brazilian capitalism and the current dismantling of the social and political rights that were previously obtained by the subordinate classes—the wretched of Brazil—created a social and political environment favorable to the accelerated dissemination of COVID-19 and a very high mortality in the country.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had significant morbidity, mortality, social and financial implications for the global population. Despite this knowledge, we still know very little about how COVID-19 infection affects quality of life resulting from changes in nutritional behaviour and, conversely, how nutrition could modulate the epidemiology of COVID-19. In addition, the social isolation most have experienced due to the regulations imposed by governments during the COVID-19 pandemic may have also had effects on our nutritional behaviour. It is possible that nutritional interventions may have effects on the incidence of COVID-19 infection and mortality rates. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the current status of research on the topic of nutrition as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, GDP per capita,physician, and population density display a positive influence onlife expectancy. The results propose that to achieve populationbetter health outcomes, authorities must cautiously contemplatethe quality of institutions.

Empirical studies investigating the direct effects of private health expenditure on child health outcomes for the world's poorest countries are rare. This study attempts to fill this gap. The methodology includes empirical estimations of cross-country annual data for the period 1995-2010 for several low-income countries. The results obtained through fixed-effects estimation provide strong evidence that private health care spending has the expected negative and statistically significant effect on neonatal, infant and under-five mortality rates. The findings also reveal that other than private health care spending, income, nutrition, urbanization, family size, immunization against measles, and access to an improved water supply and sanitation as other strong determinants of neonatal, infant and under-five mortality rates. Some policy implications are drawn.

We join with them to express our concern with the high number of maternal deaths in the country and firmly assert our commitment and role to ensure that no woman dies from pregnancy-related complications. Aside from the maternal mortality arguments, many of those supporting this legislation take a "pro-choice" position, insisting that the rights of a woman who is pregnant supersede any rights of her unborn child, sidelining both male (parental) responsibility and the responsibility of society to take charge of the wider societal issues raised by "unwanted" pregnancies.

Now, almost 150 years since the Confederation of Canada in 1867, immigrants number 6.8 million and comprise 20 percent of the total population in 2011. Canada's population has completed the demographic transition from high mortality and fertility to relatively low vital rates, but accompanied by continued, fluctuating international migration. Health is assumed to influence the economy through many channels. It reduces infant mortality and increase life expectancy and adult survival rates. Health level and life expectancy affects long-term savings decisions of individuals. This study examines the relationship between health indicators and economic growth in 19 OECD countries during the period 1970-2009 within a panel data analysis. The authors employ three different measures of health. Results show that an increase in health expenditures and a decrease in infant mortality positively affect GDP in compatible with the theoretical assumptions. However, life expectancy is detected to affect GDP negatively in contrast with the theoretical expectations. In conclusion, health expenditures and services concluded to influence GDP by improving human capital. Furthermore, the authors make suggestions about how economies can remove the burden of aging population.

This paper develops a model of the relationship between the age of a dictator and economic growth. In the model a dictator must spread the resources of the economy over his reign but faces mortality and political risk. The model shows that if the time horizon of the dictator decreases, either due to an increase of mortality risk or political risk, the economic growth rate decreases. The model predictions are supported by empirical evidence based on a threeway fixed effects model including country, year and dictator fixed effects for a sample of dictators from 116 countries. Social statistics deals with the interplay of demographic processes like population growth, demographic transition, births, deaths, and migration. Very few countries in Arabian Peninsula have a long history of population statistics. This article explores the key population trends of Oman; a country which is relatively neglected in the population literature because of the scarcity of detailed Population statistics. The analytical trends in terms of Oman's population growth and size, its demographic transition, age structure, fertility, mortality and migration behavior were carried out in this study. The results of the analysis revealed that Oman's demographic future looks irreversible with the current state for the future possible generations in terms of fertility and mortality, but migration behavior will remain uncertain and will largely dependent on its own economic, religious, social, and political policies.

AbstractThe Han and Uyghur populations of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China differ in all major health indicators. In life expectancy, infant mortality, maternal mortality and morbidity Uyghur people are much worse off than Han. Calculations performed with the linear mixed effect multiple regression model show that poor health in Xinjiang is tied directly to Uyghur nationality. Although education, employment and income are also correlated with public health outcomes, they neither cancel out the effect of nationality nor lessen it significantly. Various socio-economic, cultural and historical factors are responsible for the health gap. Preliminary investigations suggest that lack of education, low income, cultural attitudes about gender, group-specific psychological stress, and the socio-economic and demographic changes of the past 60 years could be the major factors.

- The use of socio-economic indicators in the analysis of health outcomes is not straightforward because those conditions act in a mediated and indirect way through the adoption of life styles, the characteristics of job or the capabilities of utilizing the opportunity of wellbeing offered by the modern health systems. Validity analyses of the national deprivation index based on indicators derived from national Census are summarized. Spatial and temporal stability of the association between deprivation and mortality are reviewed and Italian examples presented. Mutual standardization bias and ecological fallacy when using census tract data are also illustrated with original data based on longitudinal census cohorts studies.
