A historical & theoretical review of governmental regulation of domestic crude oil production in the US. Government policy in this area has been justified in the past by the economic theory of regulation. Regulatory approaches have depended on prevailing attitudes toward the price of crude oil. Imposition of price controls in 1971 represented a watershed in this area, although the future course of regulation remains uncertain. 5 Figures, 16 References. Modified HA.
