Analysing depreciation and obsolescence requires a model which separates the effect of abnormal changes in the market from the underlying growth trends. The model presented by Sykes fails to recognise the economic principles involved and, therefore, gives rise to results which are open to misinterpretation. Using the best methods available it is shown that over the period from 1978–85 there is no evidence to suggest that valuers have been misinterpreting growth prospects in either the office or retail sectors. There is some evidence, however, to suggest that this may be the case as far as the industrial sector is concerned. There is insufficient data available at present to confirm whether this trend is one which is likely to be sustained over very long periods. At the practical level it is shown that by combining properties into portfolios it is possible to diversify away the effects of obsolescence.

The book starts from fundamental concepts of Macroeconomic Theory and deals with all the topics extensively. Mathematical tools and techniques have been used whenever necessary for the purpose of exposition. Even when mathematics has been used, attempts have been made to explain economic significance as thoroughly as possible. Besides, diagrammatic presentations have been provided as extensively as possible.

The No Child Left Behind legislation was signed into law to ensure children in the United States receive quality education and learn the skills needed to be successful. Career and technical education (CTE) is not mentioned in the legislation, which suggests that more CTE courses may be dropped from high school master schedules, which makes the topic a concern for educational leaders. The purpose of this study was to investigate the academic performance of CTE completers and non-CTE completers in the Commonwealth of Virginia on the standards of learning English reading and mathematics assessments as well as cohort graduation rates. Findings indicate that statistically ( p < .05), CTE completers had higher mathematics and Grade 11 English reading pass rates as well as higher cohort graduation rates than those of non-CTE completers.

Purpose To understand barriers around accessing or using workplace health promotion (WHP) programs among workers in different wage categories. Approach We conducted qualitative analysis of responses to three open-ended questions about WHP program participation, collected as part of an existing WHP program evaluation. Setting: A large mid-western university. Participants Of the 20,000 employees emailed an online survey, 3,212 responded (16.1%). The sample was mostly female (75%), white (79%), and comprised of staff members (84%). The average age was 44 years and 67% had annual incomes <$75,001. Method We used NVivo-12 Plus and two coders to apply Grounded Theory on the open-ended questions and identify emergent themes. Results Although most respondents were happy with the program, differences across wage categories emerged around time, financial incentives, commute, workload, and organizational policies/support. Employees at all wage levels were enthusiastic about creating a culture of health but needed different cultural supports to do so. For instance, higher-wage workers needed to overcome self-made time constraints, while lower-wage workers needed supervisor support to overcome coverage constraints that prevented participation. Conclusion The unique participation challenges experienced by employees in different wage categories provide justification for WHP programs that can better accommodate the participation barriers of all employees. While some programs may simply require more flexible offerings, supervisors may need to be trained to support and foster healthy environments.

Agents are assumed to have subdued social preferences: buyers, for example, prefer a lower price to a higher one but experience reduced utility increases below a reference price that serves as a common fairness benchmark. The strategic equilibrium reflects market fundamentals, but it is markedly less sensitive to the buyer-seller ratio near the fair price benchmark. Prices may be sticky around very different reference levels in markets with otherwise identical fundamentals. Based on declining capture fisheries production in Pekalongan in recent years due to over-fishing in the Java Sea, then efforts to increase fish production is currently directed towards the development of aquaculture. Potential aquaculture about 18% of the area of Pekalongan, but it has not made a significant contribution to the income of the people. The process of aquaculture development planning as an early stage in the process of regional development is expected to absorb the aspirations of the people and be able to explore the potential of the area. This research aims to describe and analyze the process of aquaculture development planning in Pekalongan, supporting factors and obstacles in process of aquaculture development planning in Pekalongan. The method used is qualitative descriptive approach. Analysis of the data by using analysis Miles and Huberman. Based on the results of the study indicate that partisipation of stakeholder are less involved, planning dominated by top-down and technocratic approach, factors supporting are fisheries personnel, strategic plan documents, legislation, and aquaculture potential, while inhibiting factors, the lack of skilled human resources in the field of planning, less participation of fish farmers, coordination still weak, and limited budget.

Describes the challenges & rewards of a dual academic career as an associate professor in plant pathology & women's studies at the U of Wisconsin-Madison. One of the biggest challenges is explaining women's studies to biologists, who not only often fail to understand its intellectual basis but have the power to make decisions about things like promotions/tenure. Two cross-disciplinary classes for nonscience majors are described. One focuses on the social impact of plant disease & the other critically analyzes biological explanations for gender differences. It is maintained that being both a working scientist & a feminist critic of science requires the often uncomfortable task of analyzing one's discipline from a totally different perspective. However, teaching students to simultaneously appreciate the power of the scientific method & to question the ability of biologists to remain objective when researching certain subjects provides them with a broader, more enlightened worldview. Suggestions are offered for transcending boundaries between science & women's studies at the institutional & faculty levels. 2 References. J. Lindroth

Is there a valid argument for international cooperation, and some form of international governance structure, in the international monetary realm? On the purely economic front, the argument is not strong. Yet a broader political economy approach concludes that national currency policy can in fact impose non-pecuniary externalities on partner nations. This is especially the case with major policy-driven misalignments, which cannot easily be countered by other governments. For example, one country's substantially depreciated currency can provoke powerful protectionist pressures in its trading partners, so that exchange rate policy spills over into trade policy in potentially damaging ways. Inasmuch as one government's policies create these sorts of costs for other countries, and for the world economy as a whole, there is a case for global governance. This might include some institutionalized mechanism to monitor and publicize substantial currency misalignments. While there appears to be little global political attention to such a mechanism now, there have been initiatives along these lines at the regional level, and there are some early stirrings of interest more generally.
