Von "Ereignis" und "Ereignissen" ist überall dort die Rede, wo über das Einmalige, Neue, noch nicht Dagewesene gesprochen werden soll, über eine Revolution, einen Epochenbruch, eine Erfindung, eine unvorhergesehene Wendung. Das Wort kann als Synonym der Aporien begriffen werden, denen das Nachdenken über die Zeit heute ausgesetzt ist. Zugleich stellt die Rede vom Ereignis heute eines der mächtigsten Ideologeme der Kultur- und Medienindustrie dar. Spätestens seit dem 11. September 2001 taucht der Begriff "Ereignis" häufig in der politischen Rhetorik auf. Grund genug also, zu fragen, was es mit dem "Ereignis" als Wort, Begriff, Kategorie, Anspruch und Versprechen auf sich hat. Der Band versammelt die Beiträge einer viel beachteten internationalen Konferenz des Graduiertenkollegs "Zeiterfahrung und ästhetische Wahrnehmung" an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/Main.

Jonathan Haidt's Moral Foundation Theory has been criticized on many fronts, mainly on account of its lack of evidence concerning the genetic and neurological bases of the evolved moral intuitions that the theory posits. Despite the fact that Haidt's theory is probably the most promising framework from which to integrate the different lines of interdisciplinary research that deal with the evolutionary foundations of moral psychology, i) it also shows a critical underspecification concerning the precise mental processes that instantiate the triggering of our evolved moral intuitions, and that ii) that underspecification coexists with and overspecification of the structure of human nature when it comes to exploring alternatives to capitalist societies. ; La Teoría de los Fundamentos Morales de Jonathan Haidt ha sido blanco de numerosas críticas, fundamentalmente en función de la falta de evidencia vinculada con las bases neurológicas y genéticas de las intuiciones morales evolutivas que dicha teoría propone. A pesar de que la teoría de Haidt aparece hoy en día como el marco teórico probablemente más prometedor al momento de integrar los resultados provenientes de las distintas líneas de investigación interdisciplinaria abocadas al estudio de los fundamentos evolutivos de la psicología moral, argumentaré que i) también evidencia una subespecificación crítica en cuanto a los procesos mentales específicos que operan en la activación de nuestras intuiciones moral evolutivas, y que ii) dicha subespecificación coexiste con una sobreespecificación de la estructura de la naturaleza humana al momento de explorar alternativas a las sociedades capitalistas.

Also, simple machines could easily meet all of Crump et al.'s eight proposed criteria for sentience. Acknowledging the limitations of what we currently know about sentience is important both for formulating legislation correctly and for advancing scientific understanding of this most puzzling of biological phenomena.

Bruno Latour is one of the founding figures in social network theory and a broadly influential systems thinker. Although his work has always been relational, little scholarship has engaged the relational morality, ontology, and epistemology of feminist care ethics with Latour's actor–network theory. This article is intended as a translation and a prompt to spur further interactions. Latour's recent publications, in particular, have focused on the new climate regime of the Anthropocene. Care theorists are just beginning to address posthuman approaches to care. The argument here is that Latourian analysis is helpful for such explorations, given that caring for the earth and its inhabitants is the dire moral challenge of our time. The aim here is not to characterize Latour as a care theorist but rather as a provocative scholar who has much to say that is significant to care thinking. We begin with a brief introduction to Latour's scholarship and lexicon, followed by a discussion of care theorist Puig de la Bellacasa's work on Latour. We then explore recent work on care and the environment consistent with a Latourian approach. The conclusion reinforces the notion that valuing relationality across humans and non-human matter is essential to confronting the Anthropocene.

The purpose of this paper is to explain the change in meaning of the civil sphere in the Napoleonic Code. To this end, I focus on the introductory speech given by Portalis at the presentation of the 1801 project, and I compare his conception with Montesquieu's. For the latter, civil laws are those regulating citizens' relations with each other, in order to guarantee the maintenance and unity of the political community. Portalis, by contrast, intends to have this civic engagement function performed by a Civil Code that deals solely with that private sphere in which individuals enjoy their property. As I show in the conclusion, Benjamin Constant will assume this change and take it one step further, identifying the aforementioned private enjoyment with the true liberty of modern times. ; Para Montesquieu, las leyes civiles son aquellas que regulan las relaciones de los ciudadanos entre sí, a fin de garantizar el mantenimiento y la unidad de la comunidad política. Portalis, en cambio, pretende que esta misma función de cemento cívico la desempeñe un Código civil que se ocupa únicamente de esa esfera privada en la que los individuos disfrutan de su propiedad. Benjamin Constant asume este cambio y lo lleva un paso más allá, identificando el mencionado disfrute privado con la verdadera libertad de los tiempos modernos.

Angesichts gegenwärtiger Krisenerfahrungen erlebt die Soziologie ein comeback des Gesellschaftsbegriffs. Hatte man diesen zunächst verabschiedet, weil seine häufig normativ überfrachteten Ganzheitsvorstellungen dem pluralistischen Anspruch der westlichen Welt nicht gerecht wurden, so stellt sich heute erneut die Frage nach der Einheit des Sozialen. Das Problem mit radikalem Fokus gerade auf die Differenz des Sozialen zu bearbeiten, war Niklas Luhmanns Strategie. Seine Systemtheorie sollte Gesellschaft möglichst abstrakt und komplexitätsbewusst beschreiben. Ihr formal-funktionalistischer Blick kann den neuen Herausforderungen jedoch nicht mehr adäquat begegnen. Tobias Arenz' These lautet deshalb, dass Luhmann zu überwinden ist – jedoch von innen heraus, um nicht hinter ihn zurückzufallen. Entscheidend dafür ist die Reflexion der impliziten Normativität der Systemtheorie, die im Anschluss an das Theorieprogramm Mediale Moderne und das formkritische Rechtsverständnis Christoph Menkes erfolgt. Die Studie entwickelt dergestalt ein neues, mit Pluralität zu vereinbarendes Normativitätskonzept. Ihre hochaktuelle Pointe lautet, dass jede wissenschaftliche Analyse sozialer Verhältnisse notwendig innerhalb eines normativen gesellschaftstheoretischen Rahmens durchgeführt wird, der in der Moderne inhaltlich durch die interne Verknüpfung von Freiheit und Herrschaft bestimmt ist.
